On a positive, It's probably the best game I've seen Josh Hunt play. Solid down back, dangerous when he drifted up forward. 2 great long range goals. 23 disposals too.

If anyone doubts he is top 22 after his past 2 seasons, crazy.

They always do.

A shocking performance. Our players are acutely aware that they haven't won four quarters of a game this year. That should have been their primary focus and they fell at the first hurdle. If one player summed the attitude/effort up for me, it was Smedts. His first game back from the VFL (absolutely no excuse for complacency), his man takes a mark on him in the forward pocket in the first quarter and he turns his back on him to stroll back to his mark. By which time, his opponent has casually chipped over to a teammate in a better position who duly goaled. An inexplicable effort from a player who must be squarely on the edge of the best 22.

Good to see the public enemies #1 and #2, Guthrie and Brown, have come in for special attention from our supporters again as the main problems with the team today. Hardly surprising that the same supporters are finding it a bit more difficult to convey exactly what they did that was so terrible.

Couldn't agree more. I'm struggling to think of any major mistakes either made. Doesn't suit the mythology though. Enright and Bartel are beyond criticism but both had very worrying moments today. Bartel's "effort" on Scully in the first quarter was appalling.

Just a bit of perspective....

Sydney have played GWS and GC this year.

They beat GWS by 30 and GC by 41.
A combined total of 71.

Hawthorn have played GWS and GC this year.

They beat GWS by 83 and GC by 26.
A combined total of 109.

We have played GC and GWS this year.

We beat GC by 52 and GWS by 59.
A combined total of 111.

What does this tell you? That the three best teams in the comp aren't overly concerned with beating up on expansion teams, know they can play poorly and win and have their eye on the big picture.

Yeah, but I've been critical of him this year and today he looked far better. At times. Still needs to understand it's not the VFL and you can't run past every opponent though.

Yeah, got more touches in the first 1/4 than his season average. Went missing then til the last, but definitely looked better.
But the people including him in their best 5 votes have gotta be kidding.

The only thing stopping us from being beaten by both the franchise clubs is that they didn't have the stamina to play a full 4 quarters.

Can't rely on the opposition running out of steam in the last when you're playing finals, can't expect to always be able to pull back big leads. Seems the side gets taught this on a regular basis, but they just don't learn.

Yep. It's right next to "3 TALL FORWARDS DOESN'T WORK". It's the 3rd game this year where we've been too big, and only got some semblance of run going after a big guy was subbed out for a smaller guy (Vardy for Duncan today). If we're really lucky one day they'll wake up to the fact it's not 1982 and you just can't do it anymore.

A win is a win. Rather than criticising every player, focus on the positives. Murdoch was better, Thurlow is playing well for a first year player and Selwood came through when needed. JPod showed he still has plenty to offer. Senior player came through in the end. We won. Please don't tear apart anyone who had a few quiet patches. Pretty sure none of us are perfect and all players have periods in the game where the ball just doesn't go their way.

Sydney has just been going all year, like us. We'll see if that's good enough in September. Hawthorn has steamrolled other (better) sides, which is why they get a pass mark. We haven't smashed anyone.

If it comes out that he is hurt from rucking I will be furious. INSANE. Yoy wouldn't play Hawkins there now , so why play Vardy

He can't be wrapped in cotton wool forever.

We need to find out what he can and can't do and what he can physically withstand, and you can't replicate that in the 2's.

Hope he's ok but got no issues with how he's been managed, we've been as conservative as you can possibly be.

worst 3 quarters of football i have seen us play in years, just terrible footy, dont care how much we won by in the end, that was just a terrible performance

the rucks are going to be a big concern going into september, we need to get mcintosh as fit as possible whether that be through reserves or AFL game time, just get him right for september

thank god taylor agreed to a new long term deal today, because we witnessed what life without him would look like this afternoon,is our most important player

also the worst game i have seen lonergan play since his injury

Does Hawkins ruck? Vardy should be played forward for the rest of the season. Lets just gets some games into him before talking cotton wool Pure.

Agree he's only playing limited time in there.

Said it the main thread, the bye could not come quick enough for us.

Sore bodies all over the place and Scott and the coaching stuff have a lots of homework to do.

Still, if someone said to us 10-1 at the start of the year, you would take it in a heartbeat. Doesn't mean we can kick back though. Some worrying signs for sure.

Before Sept. Its a concern now. We have to have it sorted by R16,R18
I think they made an error at the selection table this week. Catempire demanded Simpson's selection. He was spot on . He should have played. Vardy Hawkins and Jpod is not convincing me but Vardy in the ruck even less so.
Then we are weeks,(hopefully )from getting something out of Hmac.

If anything , we really missed the Ballroom today. I didn't think we would but we did. West did himself no favours

is it the arrogance of our senior players that think that they can "flick the switch" when they want too....so bloody annoying and frustrating it is; hope scotty gave them a continuation of the 1/4 time bake after the match.
