True.

It was years ago, but a place I worked was very much hard wired to geographic locations but residents in certain areas were adamant that their house in Bentleigh, Hampton and even Highett claimed to be in Brighton East or South Brighton etc.

We had done deals with Australia Post to provide street address details (most often, we worked to deliver in-ground infrastructure to new estates and so-forth well before Australia Post became aware for instance). The flip-side of the deal was that we'd have access to the official AusPost street address reference table (this, I believe is now widely accessible to organisations and most of you would see it when you type part of your address into a website address field).

Due to persistent complaints, we created a new field for "Vanity Address" where the official address might have been

1024 Smith St Bentleigh, 3024

...but correspondence would be issued as...

1024 Smith St Brighton South, 3024

(If the resident insisted that this was their address).
Brighton South does not exist.

It's either Brighton Beach or Hampton, both of which are legitimate suburbs.

I'll bet it does for some peopleas a "Vanity Address".

Obviously it doesn't really exist.
Same thing happens in my neck of the woods. Hotels are advertised as being in Namba South (Namba being the central entertainment district of Osaka) when they are actually in a place called Shin Imamiya which is pretty much the only genuine shit-hole in the entire country.

One of those non-existent suburbs in my book Flawed;
. Glenbervie
. Deepdene
. Regent
. Cremorne
. Princes Hill
Glenbervie is a train station and Aberfeldie is an athletic track. Princess Hill is a school.

Cremorne used to be the dodgiest part of Richmond.

Haha, Cremorne is a quite desirable little pocket, out son is moving into a flat there shortly (excellent news for MCG parking for us).

Sounds like the same sort of people that insist that they aren’t ‘renting the house’ but are instead ‘leasing the property’.

My brother lost traction driving over that bridge in his gt Falcon with 15" Mickey Thompsons on it during a heavy rain storm back in about 1981. Had to reverse back down and try again with a faster run-up.

The amount of construction being crammed into the borders of Swan St, Church Street, Punt Road and the Monash is absurd.

Residential and commercial developments galore.

It’s now littered with 4H parking zones and rife with inspectors.

I call in sick when I have to work in the area. Massive pain in the arse finding parking

There was offsite parking at the tafe years ago and then they jacked up their pricing to insane levels for a day pass.

Alamein massive for this.

Am always reminded of an old post by an even older North poster around the train station "Flemington Bridge", which was described as "being designed by a rapist"

My local train line which includes the non suburbs of Hartwell and Willison.

One for the locals. When you pass through Willison station, even the train announcement can’t believe it exists, saying the name with a definite question mark. One of our son’s friends has always been a massive train nerd, specialising in these weird stations. From memory this one was originally a golf course, not a suburb.

Here are a few more
Hawksburn
Westgarth
Croxton

And a couple of others mentioned in this piece.
