He averages 50 in his last 50 FC innings, is that long enough for you?I stopped listening at February. Get back to me when he does it over a consistent period of time.
Ok, I will. He's averaged close to 50 from his last 52 FC innings, so near enough to 3 full shield seasons of FC innings.I stopped listening at February. Get back to me when he does it over a consistent period of time.

How can it not be??
But any plan you make is going to be dependent on form? They can hardly be blamed for Bancroft not scoring a run.Warner was so finished and Bancroft was so in form then the swap was obvious. But politically some people in the selectors tent won't go for it.
But they are also useless. They've had over 12 months of knowing Warner was going to plan-if they wanted to pick mcsweeney why the heck were they not instructing SA to run him as an opener in the shield last year? They have been exposed for having no viable plan and he's only being picked because it's a Bradbury situation.

if they were really prudent, they would have axed Warner a lot earlier. but that's another story for another time. They cant be blamed for Bancroft being out of form but they can be blamed for not having other options. Eg if they were prudent they would have had mcsweeney opening the batting last year in case they needed him.
At the elite level you should always have a suite of options ready to go and they clearly have not planned or executed like that.

Can't figure out who the last one was. Ruled out Hibbert and Serjeant.
don't recall Finch opening for the Vics at Shield level prior to Test debut?
There were 2 issues at playI don't disagree with that either. But everyone knew Warner was going a long way out-they have had a long time to plan for it and still seem completely haphazard which is what concerns me.
Add in that Mitch Marsh (who is tremendously popular amongst the group) came into the side for an injured Green and made runs, thus creating an unenviable hard decision so instead of making that call, they shit the bed and promoted Smith from 4 to Opener, where…you know the restThere were 2 issues at play
- no one literally bashing the door down to replace Warner
- due to the above , political and board reasons aided in keeping him in for a 'farewell' tour which lasted 18 months.
Mcsweeney is an organised player and the best bet currently. Age on his side . He can be a solid test player but likely not a world beater at the level.
Some people overlooking Khawaja who may hit the slide at any moment . His foot are slow even moreso now.
We in effect need two openers ready to go .
We don't .
People don't want Harris/Bancroft but they still a very much in the frame.
Konstas is a talent but looks way off test level . I like him but there are flaws there that need some ironing out first .
Really plants that front foot until he is 'in'
Very poor future playing by CA .
Green Mcsweeney Konstats the future
I am hoping Goodwin and Olly Davies kick on this year in the shieldAmong others really like Clayton from QLD too shows good discipline- should have been in the A side rather than wasting time with Bancroft in there

It was Richie Robinson. He played 3 tests I think and never again.I reckon it’s between Richie Robinson and John Dyson- surely Dyson opened previously in the shield, Robinson was a keeper so he may be your man.
Haven’t gone through shield stats for these guys though yet.
It is not political... Bancroft has a clear and obvious technical flaw that has constantly been exposed at the highest level. He is not cut out for that level.Warner was so finished and Bancroft was so in form then the swap was obvious. But politically some people in the selectors tent won't go for it.

Axing him for Bancroft or Harris or Renshaw earlier would have accomplished what?if they were really prudent, they would have axed Warner a lot earlier. but that's another story for another time.
Less of the Dave Warner show, obviously (but probably more, like we have now)Axing him for Bancroft or Harris or Renshaw earlier would have accomplished what?
