Over 69,000 at the ground today. After the Hobart debacle that's an awesome crowd. :thumbsu: Besides the Ashes it would be one of the best in the past 10 years, probably the best.
Whilst test cricket is apparently dead around the world, its still well and truly alive in Melbourne, glad to see even CH9 admitted this is the Sporting Capital :thumbsu:

That picture of Cowan at the start of his wagon wheel graphic is a bit scary. Batsman or serial killer?

I love watching Cowan bat. Traditional opener, leaving the bad, taking the good. He could be doing better with the good that he is receiving, but I blame it on first game nerves. At least he isn't giving a tonne of edges/chances like Warner and Hughes do.

If he is our best player, why isn't batting No. 3 ? And where was he in the 2nd innings in Hobart where we needed our senior batsmen to stand up?

Unfortunately he doesn't have the technique, temperament or maybe even the ticker for that job.

No offence but everyone is suited to different positions in the order. Waugh and Border batted mostly at 5. They were both crap at 3 bar the odd score. Who accuses them of lacking ticker. Fair chance they were our best batters even at no.5. Some are just not suit to batting no.3.

Clarke made his share of scores when needed. Border and Waugh, as reliable as they were under pressure, also made low scores when needed at times. Remember, everyone else bar Warner failed as well so point the finger all round, not just at the whipping boys.

Geez sharma by far looks like the most dangerous bowler. See off his spell each time and dominate everyone else.

I really hope the inclusion of Cowan is a sign of things to come from our selectors. If Sheffield shield batsmen are in form, they get picked.

Except they downplay it.
Why? They always make ridiculous exaggerations with anything else.

Melbourne is the sporting capital of the WORLD.

Won "Worlds Best Sporting City" the last 3 years running.

No other city comes close to the sporting events we have.

concur. If you have a player who averages 20 at 3 and 26 at 4 and 50 at 5, you bat him at 5.

you maximise his return by playing where his form is optimum, not trying to expose his weakness.

That is the sort of stupid thinking that led teddy dexter into ruining a generation of english cricketers.

Clarke at 5 is win for australia.

fantastic fifty from cowan.

solid looking stuff.

lets just hope this is the start of something big all round for our boys :)

Cowan needs to get out quickly now so we can still have our stock standard batting collapse. He's been ruining plan A all day.
