Clark also came on halfway through the Dons scratch match and slotted in nicely.

I haven't been a huge Clark fan and he still has a long way to go but he is looking better... Albeit with limited minutes.

Here's my question.

With Smith now taking a midfield spot and Knevitt playing well and offering something different size-wise... Is Bruhn a walk-up start?

Bruhn should be ahead of Clark (although Clark is starting to come on)... but is he now ahead of Knevitt?

It's probably a good problem to have since our midfield has been so thin in the past.

Smith coming in makes a big difference IMO.
I think they will find a way to fit both Bruhn and Knevitt in. But it is a good question as that means Atkins and Bowes come into question (and they are both good options). Probably from the weekend MOC drops out - but we have to fit in Mannagh too! Nice problems if all fit…

But the point now is that we can cover a Bruhn or Atkins or Bowes being injured

Smith is huge difference and so will SDK if he can mitigate the maulings he will get from big fellas -as he can also be a good handball receiver as well as provider.

SDK was bloody brilliant. A real presence in there today.
No signs of being timid. At 1 stage he even dove head first into a contest.
Very mature game from him.
A few very brutal tackles.
His clearance with Neale (?) goal resulting was amazing 😻

I thought he was limping a bit too. But I understand all is ok.

I wonder whether he might switch to sub next week to give Clark a full crack? Unless we have someone to tag?

On the replay Moons did say MOC had a cork to the thigh which was iced

Geelong v Fremantle

10 Bailey Smith (GEEL)
4 Jack Henry (GEEL)
4 Max Holmes (GEEL)
4 Sam De Koning (GEEL)
3 Caleb Serong (FRE)
3 Shannon Neale (GEEL)
1 Jeremy Cameron (GEEL)
1 Patrick Dangerfield (GEEL)

So each coach left out one of Holmes, SDK or Henry completely. I thought those 3 and Smith were easily the top 4 on the ground.

Yeah, me too - it was Baz, SDK, Holmes, Henry, daylight.

Love Serong and Neale, but there's no way they were anywhere near third best on ground.

The only thing I'll say for Neale is he had 2 massive moments when the game need to be won. Took a big contested mark and hit up Atkins to steady us and then from the next centre bounce beat Pearce one on one and goaled.

I could see Chris Scott rating him higher because he stood up when we needed him.

That, or it's a bit of a recognition of progress.

Serong had very little impact on the game outside the third quarter. Very surprised to see his name there.

Great article.
Chris is at the very top of his game and seems to have built on our fast 2024 ball movement strength.
We will continue to to evolve and will face challenges but as a fan I'm incredibly reassured with his leadership and our buy in at all levels.
