After a game last week where he was heavily involved but things often didn't come off, this week started the same (two errant kicks) but he went on to have a fantastic game.

2 goal assists, a goal and most importantly all those slick handballs through our most exciting and damaging possession chains. Almost played an all guns blazing wingman type role tonight (given how hard he ran). Superb.

Kolo was really good early I though. There was real heat in the game and I can’t believe I’m saying it but he look composed.
He's been great all year and composure has notably improved. His intercept numbers are way up and he's almost never beaten. The question was could he bring that to finals and after one and a bit dodgy quarters last week (with an injury mid way), the supporters verdict was "bin him". MC rightly backed him in and this is what you get.

All the Miers doubters put your hands up and your heads down. He was awesome tonight, his running across the ground is elite. The impact he has with his possessions on scoring or forward movement is so impactful for the team.
10 score involvements (including 2 goals and 3 goal assists) from 22 possessions. He did a few similar things last week where the guy on the end of the chain didn't convert. But tonight he was an active menace across the whole game and one of our best.

That fleet of small forwards should never be broken up. They make such a difference to how we play. Miers is absolutely a lock and I'm delighted he chose tonight to have the best game of his career.

Twitter must be drunk .
Seen about half doz tweets an out we get gifts from the umps.

Bris got more free kicks .

Never change .
Not only that but 1st and 2nd quarter they got bizarre ones that either cost us shots at goal, or gave them a D50 easy exit when the ball was hot.

Tuohy and Blicavs bounced back with vigour tonight.

Danger added another all time classic to his finals portfolio to counteract one of his poor ones.

Hawkins was only good first half kicking away from being almost the most dominant player on the ground (still good all things considered).

Duncan is putting together better finals at the tail end of his career than at his peak.

Stewart and Z.Guthrie rocks of Gibraltar at the back again with plenty of dashing rebound to match.

Holmes excellent again before his injury - fingers crossed for a miracle as he has been huge for the teams shift in style this season.

I spoke about some of the others already. But the players I wanted to step up did and many doubters were proved wrong.

Should be 5/6 so far. 1930 was only lost due to the ludicrousness of the Argus system at hand.

The second version of the amended Argus system was used by the VFL between 1907 and 1930, except in 1924. This is the most widely known variation of the Argus system.

The structure of the finals was mostly the same as the first amended Argus system, except that the right to challenge was given to the Minor Premier as defined by the team on top of the ladder at the end of the home-and-away season, meaning that finals results could no longer influence the right to challenge. Additionally, it became conventional for the two semi-finals to be played on separate weekends, extending the duration of the finals from two or three weeks to three or four weeks.

  • Week One: the First Semi-Final was played between 2nd vs 4th.
  • Week Two: the Second Semi-Final was played between 1st vs 3rd.
  • Week Three: a final was played between Winner SF1 vs Winner SF2
    • If Minor Premier won the Week Three final, then that team was immediately awarded the Major Premiership. In these cases, the final in week three has retrospectively become known as the Grand Final.
    • If the winner of the Week Three final was not the Minor Premier, then the finals progress to Week Four. The final in week three became known as either the Final or the Preliminary Final.
  • Week Four: the Grand Final was played between Minor Premier vs Winner Final
    • The winner of this match became the Major Premier for the season.

Tl;dr. Collingwood as minor premier got to have a mulligan.

I’m not a medical/conditioning expert, but if there was a mild/moderate concern about Holmes’s hamstring, why the hell wouldn’t they put some ice on it? Even though they won’t know the severity of the injury until scans come back, surely you’d just chuck some ice on it - there’s no harm in erring on the side of caution…?

Logically, having no ice on it either means:

a) it’s absolutely fine and medical staff are 100% confident he’ll play next week

OR b) medical staff have written him off and he’s no chance of playing so they didn’t bother with the ice

In Scott’s presser he said they’re optimistic that he’ll play, so can we rule out possibility b) and therefore assume that a) is correct?
from a non medical person...

There is a discussion that the ping he felt and the cramping he got was not a soft tissue tear per se but more a neuronal spasm from his lower back that manifested itself as a hammy tear.

Holmes has had this issue this year apparently and this was a reoccurence of it.

If indeed this accurate, ice on the hammy would do SFA as the origin and cause of the issue is a nerve impingement in the lower back not the soft tissue of the hammy.

GO Catters

Some of the passages of play tonight wouldn't have looked out of place in the highlights packages of the 100pt finals wins of 15 years ago.

End to end, running in waves and making the opposition look foolish.
The slick handballs and hard running forward have returned this season. Last year they tried it but still got stuck into too many hospital handballs or a link on the chain fumbling.

Close is the best for it. Miers and Holmes too but even some defenders like Kolo and Zuthrie are getting involved.

It's Cats having a license to thrill again with the reaction time, skill and legs to make it possible. A joy to watch.

Watching through the highlights again and there were some scintillating plays in this game.

Highlight for me was the one where Hawkins just picked a 40m pass off the deck on his toes mid-volley and whipped the ball over his shoulder to Stengle who just casually kicks a banana and goals.

Tom Hawkins pulls brilliance out of his arse like this then flubs goals directly in front, ten metres out. What a funny bloke. :tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy:

Yup, I said don't play him if injured, he was great. Marked everything, didn't have any Kolo moments despite the pressure early.

9 marks (4 contested), 23 disposals, a couple of i50s, only 2 turnovers, 13 intercepts, and was kicking at 95%.

Jeebus. Should have saved it for next week.
He was just warming up for next week 😜

Fox reported that Miers was the top ranked player on the ground. ..Paddy 2nd....Close 4th...

The lack of faith in the kid from other fans has been pretty surprising to me. He reminded me very much of Menzel before he was injured. Was always clearly going to be an important player, and someone you just needed to trust in and give him the time to get back to his best. He hasn't even come close to reaching his ceiling yet. I'll have him in the side every week, regardless of form, for at least a season post-injury. Those injuries can really set players back for months. Because you know what he's capable of, it's the job of the club to help him get back to that level and it will pay dividends when he does. Love the kid.
