“Geelong was still 11 points clear at the final change after Henry booted a controversial goal when his off-the-ball hold on Zac Williams went unnoticed by the umpires.”
From AFL.com
Was that when Williams felt contact and went down like he was shot?
That seriously was embarrassing, should’ve been a free for staging.

I thought that he had blown his achilles

Hard disagree.

What I love about Stanley, and I didnt think this is what I would have said about him 5 years ago.

He never ever gives up.

He was beaten but not by enough of a margin to cost us the game. Faint praise for sure, but worked his way back into the contest.

Gutsy effort.

I’m normally a big take the win and any 4 points are precious (they are) guy, but I came away a little less confident of our premiership chances after that.

I actually thought they were pushing Danger to the limit in first half and he was only mid at the level to compete. Paid a big price.

Bruhn, Bowes, Parfitt and co have some work to do.

Great Guthrie got through, and Stengle and Cameron were sublime.

Kolo also played his best game for club, so congrats to him.

SDK is moving down my favoured players list.
Until finals, every game is just about banking the win really.

They're understandable concerns, but Guthrie at full strength in the middle will go a long way to allaying those worries, as will Danger.

We haven't yet seen both running through there at full pelt, and with the way we manage our list, they'll be doing that come september (knock on wood)

Stanley you'd think couldn't play that badly again. He's so hot & cold...but he's more often mediocre than downright dominated like he was today.

I'm prepared to give a mulligan to Bowes & Parfitt too. Both have been super this year, and an off week shouldn't take away from that IMO.

Changed course to block 50 metres off the ball and fell like a shot fox. Proceeded to hold his head like he'd been (David) king-hit for thirty seconds and complained to the ump about it ten minutes later at 3 qtr time. I laughed. Silly goose. I imagine Vossy would be telling him to harden the F up.

He conceded 11 clearances to Pittonet tonight. Any criticism of him is far from harsh.
I’m not defending his game tonight; he was well beaten. It just should never be taken as indicative of what he will provide against better opposition. He has a long history of this.

That's just weird. Whateley is an out-and-out Geelong supporter! Do commentators feel obligated to be seen as fellating the opposition? All our ex-players turned commentators have had a disgraceful record of two-eyed commentary if not favouring the opposition. All the other former players can be as biased as f*ck towards their clubs.

Why is it different for our exes?
Because we've been good for 20 years. No one wants to hear it

Exactly. He was monstered in the first quarter but fought back admirably. Still lost his personal contest but fought back enough to stop the midfield rot (along with Danger) when it looked a real problem. He's no pea-heart.

I was only worried about him over 10 years ago when he could bend over for a period. I’m not the slightest bit concerned - I think he’ll have games like this where he doesn’t get a sniff with not an abundance of opportunity, but I’m sure he’ll have plenty for the rest of the year where he sets up goals, creates space and kicks a few. To me that’s the year we’re looking at, and the way we play now - just a real spreading of the load. We’re winning games with low midfield possession numbers as an example, but everyone doing their bit.

I do think Carlton will be there at the pointy end when they get a few back. Small forward in particular. They really need the class of Martin.
Hawkins has dropped off considerably this year. He's still useful rucking in the forward line and he is a great set shot. However, recently he has had games where he was like a fish out of water. Goal kicking is irrelevant if you are never near the ball. He has looked very frustrated with himself this year. Today was not one of those games but he certainly didn't trouble the scoreboard. I think we will see Shannon Neale getting more games.

Home from the game- what a great game of footy to watch on another beaut autumn day/night.
What a good win-had to fight back a few times and it got a bit scary when they kicked those two close together. But, as good teams do, we kicked another one and I knew we’d get it! Had to fight hard-what a good team. Proud of their efforts.

Isn’t he? I am not sure about that.

One thing I do know, if Conway played today we would have had a much better chance of success at stoppages.

If Stanley serves that up again against Gawn it will get super ugly.

I will back Conway to be a better option.
I don't think we get a different result with Conway, if anything Pittonet would push him around easier and we run a risk of injuring Conway.

I'll flag Conway for games against Sweet and Nankervis and reasses after the bye

Obviously Rhys takes his share of the criticism but I would think a lot of it also comes down to the structure as well. People wonder why the tagger is an endangered species but that first half shows why. Once we pivoted to everyone trying to win the footy it evened up considerably in there.

Stupid internet earlier didn't save my full text before posting

I don't mind us being the underdog & continuing to do the hunting in matches, but it would be nice for the players and coaches to start getting some recognition for what they've come out & done to date this season
It’s just exhausting not getting credit when credit is due
Did I think we would be 7-0 and a flag chance
No I didnt

Did I think we would be top 4 if everything goes right with the easiest draw we’ve had in a long time with a strong list

Absolutely I did
And then I followed up with if you finish top 4 anything can happen

Geelong impressively sucked the umpires into favouring Carlton 14-10 but still managed to get the ones that counted leading to a 30+ point margin with seven minutes to play.

Outstanding cunning corruption.

The Blues fans should be ropeable that Williams went to ground to play for a free and let Henry run into space for an easy goal.

Gawn has eaten him alive a few times, too. Not that it's really much of a guide, to be honest - more to the point, Rhys has had a bad 2024 apart from the Bulldogs game. His 2023 was not good, either.

Conway doesn't have a huge tank, sure, but we do have the best part-timer in the game. I don't think we lose anything by playing Conway.

Getting beaten at ground level by Pittonet is a real worry.
The way we have nullified Gawn in the past is to run him off his feet. If you bring in Conway you cede that previously winning strategy and instead play him at his own game trying to win taps to advantage.

Stanley please
