Have to love watching a game where the commentators are riding hard for the opposition for three and a half quarters, and then when it looked likely we were going to win, decided to talk us up a bit to make it sound like they weren't unbiased.

You could hear it as soon as they realised. It went from accuracy and umpires to Kingy stating 'This is a statement to the rest of the league'

Turns out we even won the expected score.

And they kicked 4 of the last 5 to close the gap. I felt watching the game that they had a lot of tough shots that they missed and repeat entries. Stats never tell the full story. We had less inside 50s in the first half because there were less repeat entries

Effort: monumental.

Helped a little bit by wayward kicking but we were also missing both our captains and Tom Hawkins was also not playing.

Geelong are so well drilled and it showed.

We will do much better when we don't have literally half our side out admittedly but what Geelong do is second nature. Well coached, well drilled. Always seemed to have an answer when it got close.

Paddy now out for a month. Like to see Hardie given an opportunity at some stage. Parfitt wouldn’t want another game like that one next week. There’s a few waiting in the wings.

I must admit. SDK does look disinterested at times. Gets found flat footed when the ball is alive and has to chase his tail

Purely anecdotal, but 'word around the pub' reckons his facial injuries were akin to trauma from a car accident. That sh*t has to have a sapping effect on confidence. Can he keep playing? Will he regain his confidence? It's a time thing. He needs senior time under his belt, because before his injury he WAS that good.

Yeah this was really frustrating to me. Usually we put the wall up but McKay and Curnow were just marking everything from their exits. The D50 held up reasonably well even with SDK well beaten on the day but that is probably the area we missed Stewart the most.

Parfitt really struggled today under pressure …hopefully he bounces back but none of his tackling stuck and his ball handling was pretty bad

I caught bit of Armchair Experts last night, and they asked the question about would the winner of today's clash be the new premiership favourite. They seemed to agree that it would be the case if Carlton won, but there'd likely still be questions over us

One of the best things about today's win was how good the VFL were. Instead of thinking "s**t we've got noone to bring in" Rohan was great, Neale could play for Hawkins, O'Sullivan could've come in for Stewart, Conway clearly could come in for Stanley and Clark or Knevitt for Danger. Not saying all equal replacements but there's solid options.
