It's 4 months out. The 7 wins are great to have but won't have much bearing when we're playing a VIC team at the MCG in the finals. I see where you're coming from.

Another angle to this game is that our flaws in the middle are getting found out. They are clear and transparent. With that comes countermeasures and planning for later in the year to improve.

Danger is a worry. He shifts the entire chess board in our favour in the middle. Fingers crossed he's good to go for September.
We well and truly got smashed in the mf tonight. But even then , and unlike previous seasons, don't think Danger out actually changes much. If anything it allows a young player to be in the mf.

Gerard Whateley has had a massive boner for Carlton all year. Cats getting ignored.

Reminds me of Eng and Aus in cricket. One has moral victories, excuses, and a lot of huff in the media. The other quietly gets results.
He lives in Catherine Street in Geelong West. A fanatical Cats supporter.

Conway isn't ready for that kind of match up.
Isn’t he? I am not sure about that.

One thing I do know, if Conway played today we would have had a much better chance of success at stoppages.

If Stanley serves that up again against Gawn it will get super ugly.

I will back Conway to be a better option.

At one point the free count was 11-6 Carlton’s way and the commentators said Carlton were playing against two teams. Hilarious.
The exact same situation - a player with no prior incorrectly disposing of the ball - was screamed for as a free by crowd and commentary box all night and ignored every single time it was in Geelong’s favour and missed.

The “sick of Geelong” syndrome is epidemic.

Parfitt has his worst match of the year.
The real disappointment was that he had 2 missed tackles in the f50, both which directly cost goals. The last one on acres almost cost us the match.
The rest of the team tackled brilliantly, he suddenly came up with 2 incredibly soft tackling attempts.
Coincides with Guthrie’s return. Cue twilight zone music?

Everyone is though, it’s getting ridiculous. Last year they were like ‘finally we can move on’. Geelong is a extremely well run organisation

7-0 and we’ve only played 2 games in Geelong.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the football…

The tackle when Kolo had the player wrapped up, and he ended up eventually getting the ball to boot for the goal pissed me off.

The AFL don't want players wrapped up like that taken to ground... but they need to blow the whistle faster for a ball up.

I was dirty Kolo didn't take him down, but I understand why he didn't. It cost us a goal because the umps were super slow on the whistle tonight... sooo slow when Carlton had the ball.

Cats derangement syndrome.

How long until we get taken seriously, and we start being shown some respect for what we're doing

I caught bit of Armchair Experts last night, and they asked the question about would the winner of today's clash be the new premiership favourite. They seemed to agree that it would be the case if Carlton won, but there'd likely still be questions over us
I said it in the pregame thread
Todays games was a lose lose and it’s just like that.
Already read multiple comments regarding Umpires and players missing for the Blues.

Even though we won today we still haven’t got the respect

That one on Acres was difficult- already had momentum-I thought his second half was influential, and his TOG was limited

Weird, I thought Dempsey had a great game but turns out he only touched it 13 times. Must've been early on but felt like he was involved in everything.
Had a huge first quarter but barely sighted after that.

I wish I were a happier person who could just enjoy wins.

Sadly, I worry about areas that I think we have issues in.

We are top of the ladder, undefeated and obviously doing well... Most other supporters would be over the moon.

I'm out here worrying about things that could cost us flags like:

*Our rucks... Stanley is back to his being a liability best, Conway is a pup.
*Our midfield... Especially with Dangers issues.
*Hawkins and his lack of competitiveness.

We have got the job done so far... but how long can this hold up? Hopefully all year.

I think Dangers hammy has put a real dampener on tonight's win for me.
Genuine advice: Don't stress about any of the nitty gritty in April. It's just about banking the wins and setting up the season.

The concerns are the coaches job, not yours/ours. Enjoy the wins, ride the losses when the come, and worry more about how we look come August.

They've got 4 months to fix the issues, and we've already cushioned ourselves with the 7-0 start.

The more positive outlook is we're 7-0 with massive room for improvement. Glass half full vs empty I know, but it's a long season, save the stress for when it's relevant.

My favourite was commentators crying for Blues frees 30 seconds after Cameron got pinged for holding when HE was the one being held and streaming into open goal 45 metres out. Just laughable. I completely understand why the rest of the comp’s supporters dislike and are over us but the commentators were almost unprofessional with their nonsense. Anyway, made the win that much sweeter! F ‘em!

The thing that stands out for me is that we can get a solid lead quickly and then when the team challenges and we look in trouble we immediately respond, it’s happened a couple of times this year.
Lots of improvement in the team. It’s very early.
Was a huge component of 2022 as well.

When teams got a run on, we always found a way to respond. Melbourne, Port, & Richmond games being prime examples, as well as the Collingwood QF.

Due to our gamestyle/personel, we didn't quite have that ability prior to then, and completely lacked it with injury/fitness/form in 2023...but it's great to see it return so far this year.

Said we should have dropped 2E and then he does this. Thank the Lord I'm not a coach we'd be in so much trouble. Geelong backs 'em in and proves many of us wrong time and time again.
Classy 👏

Interesting. No love lost between the DeKoning brothers!

Brotherly shove
When brothers come up against each other there's always a mention in the lead up to a game, and with Sam De Koning playing his 50th against big bro' Tom there was a little extra interest. Blues coach Michael Voss recalled facing his younger sibling Brett back in the day, saying his priority was to 'bash' the Lion-turned-Saint whenever he got the chance. It appears the Cats' De Koning paid more heed to the advice than Voss' charge Tom, with Sam's front-on contact in a marking contest late in the first quarter sending his brother from the ground for a concussion test. TDK looked shaky and started the second term on the bench but soon returned to the action, refusing to let his little brother take him out of the game.
