This is why I was saying previously if we want sdk in the ruck we need to be comfortable playing someone like Jeka. It worked on the day but Henry not playing loose intercept is just like sending him to war and making him leave his rifle at home
Yeah..it was tough on Henry. I was comfortable as I thought Blitz would drift back - but he actually drifted forward…so we are certainly under sized potentially back there depending on who we play. Against the Hawks though (even it Mitchell Lewis comes in) we are probably ok so I reckon they might play same team this week?

Unless O Henry comes in, in which case I am not sure how they revamp it

Observations.
1/ With Hawkins not playing (sadly), we would have won two more games this year already.
2/ Rohan HAS to be a key part of the forward line. Most underrated player on our list.
3/ If neither of our specialist rucks are in the best 23, then we don't pick them. Our jerry-rigged midfield was back to being outplayed, rather than being smashed. That's enough to keep us in any game.
Hawkins kicked 4 two weeks in a row earlier in the year, we counting them as losses if he wasn’t there, or does that not suit the narrative?

It's not as if Neale did a lot anyway. I would say Rohan for O Henry made a much bigger difference.

Just on the third quarter free kicks
We had a few go our way but they are called 50/50s for a reason
Some you get and some you don't
Looking at our season differential we were probably due
shock horror they actually missed a few our way too

I felt a little sorry for Brad Scott last night.

It was like his brother had saved all his party tricks for this game.

No way he’d be expecting Henry to play more than 10cm shorter on Peter W.

No way he’s expecting Tom Stewart in the midfield and they’d instead be preparing to tag Stewart from HBF.

SDK again in ruck, maybe, but expecting Chris to make a late change to bring in Stanley against their two genuine rucks.

Ollie Dempsey to be our most dangerous player, unlikely.

A first gamer to get 15 possessions and gain 308M, no way…

Knevitt to be snapping bananas, unlikely.

Must have been tough for Brad last night.

Amazing how there was no mention of us getting absolutely rogered last week on 50/50 umpiring decisions that led to goals. The soft free kicks to Curnow, Stewart getting bear hugged by Cincotta for no free, soft 50m penalties only paid one way, etc.

This week the tables are turned and that's all we hear about. Also the dropped mark paid to Wright and the clear arm chop on Knevitt not paid that both led to goals didn't raise a peep.

For those criticising Jack Henry’s game (first half especially) - he was a sacrificial lamb in this game. He was left one out with a bloke 10 cm taller than him. All while our 204 cm key defender was running around in the ruck (and our actual ruckmen are playing in the magoos)

I am ok with the decisions from the match committee that got us here, but the consequence was Henry was asked to do a job that he was physically ill-equipped to do. I am not ok with Henry being criticised for being outmarked in 1v1 contests by a giant.

He seemed pissed off at times, and if I were him I would be to.

I agree and thats why im excusing his form a bit.
The issue is theres no solution other than puttinf sdk there as jeka isnt that type of defender and COS doesnt have the body strength yet.

Clark needs a spell in VFL. Showed glimpses of his quality but 8 possessions in 86 minutes of midfield is not good.

Don’t think going back to VFL and winning a VFL premiership would be a bad thing for him.

Been a pathway for a few Geelong greats.

I hope Cam Guth is nearly fit.

Look i can see both sides of it.
Clark is clearly an afl standard player so they might feel he will develop quicker in the afl than vfl.
Some of the defensive things he did to stop ess (particularly when they were dominant in the middle in q2) were really good and dont show up as stats.
That said he clearly doesnt have the engine to run games out (understandable) and fades.
In that sense games at slower vfl level would help.

I reckon they will play him the next couple in the 1s but when bruhn is back we probably need to put clark back to the 2s.
I dont think we can expect much from guthrie the way his body is..if he comes back hes probably playing hb (easier role) and bowes probably needs to go to the midfield.
I would also be trying mannagh through the mids in both afl and vfl but the coaches wont do that.
I can't believe I wanted Rohan to sub after all my previous defending of him as best 22.

Pure_Ownage is he in your best 22 yet?

In short he was good but no.
I suspect it wont matter either way as his body probably wont last the whole year so it will likely take the decision out of our hands.
A bit like tuohy and duncan he can have a great game every 3rd or 4th week but cant back it up every week body wise.

No way would i drop henry for him.
Id actually consider dropping close for him but im not sure the coaches would.
To me if youre playing rohan then you play both him and henry (put dempsey up the field as we are) and leave neale out (although that does affect the ruck options).

But id definitely go henry over rohan if it was either/or.

It was also my main concern and quite possible we lose if 2MP gets good supply and kicks 5or6.
Looked dire in the first half but with JH getting better and less supply we rolled the dice and won - phew.

SDK is interesting as a ruck - clearly needs more core strength but has gathered 20+ at good DE - could develop into a clone of his brother?

I think when Wright’s non-mark was paid it was 10-4 against us at that point.

Beggars can't be choosers though. How well will Henry go giving away 10cm when it's not in driving rain?

Yes but i think jeka would do even worse in that scenario.
What we need to do is put sdk at full back and conway in the ruck (and buy another ruck at years end).

Watching the replay - Dale Thomas is actually embarrassing and unprofessional during the call.
“That’s 50 as well, the cats are getting away with a lot here”

Bullshit. There was a few iffy calls but that’s all he spoke about for the entire quarter.

That was genuinely embarrassing. It looked like a soft free to Essendon (no replay), Cameron soccers a goal as the whistle is blown and somehow we're the one who got lucky. Comically bad commentary.

The umpiring complaints are fantastic viewing... We absolutely got the best of it 10mins but a 10 goal to 2 second half clearly shows that wasn't the difference.

All it really did was highlight what a bunch of weak pretenders the Bombers are, the moment it went against them they put up the resistance of a wet tissue... And their fans know it and are terrified the arse is falling out of their season... Again..
So the umpiring is an easier thing to blame and face than their actual reality

Glorious

Bombers 2 rucks had 57 hit outs. Geelong had 24.

Nothing interesting about it. We were smashed in the ruck again.

Dekonning at best will only ever be a second ruck. If we are to have any hope this year he needs to get back to full back and find form quickly.
