This season has been a failure on so many metrics. We start the season with a big gap of midfielder and as the season has gone on its been the biggest glaring weakness in our squad. We need to find a minimum of 2 genuine quality midfielders.

But even then, the losses to GWS and Freo at home are horrendous losses. Season is finally cooked. Drop guys like Stanley who have been poor for a while, bring in kids like Conway and start looking to our next flag tilt around 2026. Time to get games into the kids.

Conway's injured :(

Reality hits. Could we still make the finals, if we win every game, maybe? Can we win every game without Blitz and Hawkins possibly out for 2 or 3? Probably not.

The club needs to look at some of the older players. Maybe if we made the finals you would give the a pass and sign them on again for one more year, but now as finals is unlikely, time to give the younger guys a go, even if it means bigger losses. Tell the younger guys, go in there and have fun, don't worry about the results.

Too much hubris by the club this year. Thinking we'll roll into the season, underdone and finding form and fitness as the season rolls on and we'll "click" and find out best footy at the right time and go on to win it again.
Reminds me of the 2008 "Last season was for the fans, this year we're winning one for the players".

Problem of being a one club town is you get smoke blown up your arse all year.

Was always gonna be a miracle to win the flag anyway, now without hawk and blitz that is that.
Cameron cost us with his kicking but we just get beaten in so many 1 on 1s across the ground and our midfield is getting slaughtered by everyone.
No point getting worked up now it is what it is. On to next year

Not singling anyone out but we've got about four guys with long blonde hair and hairbands, you had to close your eyes when they were involved most of day. They had genuine shockers, or at least it felt that way.

Wasn't Guthrie - battled well all game.

Wasn't DeKoning - wasn't fantastic but wasn't terrible.

Wasn't Dempsey, who didn't play.

Wasn't Blicavs who was injured.

(geeez this list is getting tight)

jack henry was mr butter fingers today. Was his hands greased With oil?

A lot of dumb football, so much dumb football. Stewart and Cameron should have a few nightmares over this.

Our midfield rotations were shocking, not Close or Stengle's fault but they shouldn't have been anywhere near there.

No point coming up with creative solutions now. Knevitt will play next week. Neale as well.

If a few weren't already contracted they should be retiring, its only going to get harder, wouldn't want to be West Coast. Time to move on to the next era.

You just knew they’d serve that up today.

Danger cooked
Stanley - pack your bags
Midfield - very average

Let’s see what crap the coach served up at the presser. Our best is well behind us

Stanley absolutely dominated the ruck contests.
Stanley's not the problem, it's the blonks at his feet.

Simply put, we're gone. We just concede too much in the midfield, and then when your best defender makes two costly errors late in the game, and your superstar forward just couldn't hit the ocean if he jumped off the Fairstar, we just look like this. We always seem to lose in that 'close enough' kind of way this season, but honestly the sum of the parts of the year sees us just too far away.

And Blitz suffering a hammy and Hawkins looking similarly lame, i just can't see us mustering any more than one more win...all four sides are above us, including the top two. We might wind up with a pick in the top 10 given it's likely we'll fall below a lot of clubs, so maybe take it like perhaps a 2006 and reset for next season. Brilliant flag last year, but i think Father time might be getting his own back. We need to develop some midfield bulls to try and wrest some control there. And that is a process that will take time.

A bit like with Enright's 300th, sometimes we really fall flat with honouring a club legend. But seriously, when you get close to two goals up at home in the last quarter against an interstate side, and lose...it's saying we just aren't that good anymore.

That is the 2023 season done. It has been the worst I can ever remember from the point of view of injuries, so it seems fitting it ends with serious injuries to two more key players.

I hope Hawkins goes around next year and Cameron refinds his pre-concussion form. We really do need a young mid to come on (Clark or Knevitt perhaps) or find one in trade because the midfield is the major deficiency. Tanner Bruhn has shown some promising signs in there, and Atkins has a big heart, but we need more than that.
