Going into this game I felt like too much needed to go right for us to be a force in the finals. Coming out of it it’s like too much needs to go right for us to even win a H&A game at home. We can argue all day about the reasons why we are tanking so hard so often but really it’s looking like the chemistry that made this team click was Selwood.

Congratulations to Fremantle, they played the smarter football all day long.

We can talk about the umpiring, the loss of Blicavs (and Hawkins late) and the matter of our season being on life-support.

But the thing that really irks me is Jeremy Cameron's football.

His kicking today was atrocious, his marking contests lacked conviction and his defensive game is non-existent. He's been a liability for weeks.

Since about Rd 9 he's been terrible. After a wild start to the season something's gone very wrong.

Luckily I cashed my Coleman bet after the first Bombers game at 90% of the max payout.

Cats have always had an inate ability to turn things around. Stupid is the person to simply dismiss any chance if we do make the 8.

Not saying we're going to win a flag but damn the emotional reactions that come during and after a loss on this forum is borderline embarrassing
The only thing embarrassing was the performance today. Freo are sitting 15th. We are playing for a spot in the finals.
Now that’s embarrassing.

To many areas of failure to go through.... Old and slow, over confident, average midfield, what everyone thought were A grade playing like F grade.. tactics shit as well... Just terrible - this season is so open as well. What a disappointment

Ok can we give Knevitt, Dempsey, and Neale some full games now so they are more comfortable at the top level heading into next year... Even Mullin/Conway whilst we are at it.

Probably won't win another game for the rest of the year doing it, but I'm looking to next year (this year has been toast for months).

We have been flogging Hawkins and Blitz all year (not good enough to give them time off) and I hope whatever happened to them today doesn't linger or impact us next year... These guys aint getting any younger.

Might even snag a top 10 pick and potential gun kid if we are lucky.

Freo probably did us a favor today.

When are we going to start calling out our centre midfielders as being terrible?
Was watching with the binoculars today.

We lack experience here no doubt.

Freo got it out easily a couple of times, Holmes' man each time and the guy who cleared it was barely in his field of vision.

When Rohan was in the ruck, geez you'd think you'd man up at the centre bounce?

Atkins is still good but we are playing/relying on him as an A midfielder instead of a very good rotation.

Missed Blicavs

If you want to be optimistic, Freo really shouldn't have been a 15th placed side this year. They traded for Luke Jackson expecting to improve on last year's efforts.

Too much hubris by the club this year. Thinking we'll roll into the season, underdone and finding form and fitness as the season rolls on and we'll "click" and find our best footy at the right time and go on to win it again.

It even comes from the coach with his "we're the danger" remark the other week and thinking our best is good enough when we haven't displayed it nearly enough.

We've played maybe 5 games of good footy this year max. Too many players out of form/out of confidence/ or lack of hunger to go again.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to see 4 flags in my life, but bloody disappointed we can't go back to back even once.

See you next year.
I'm not sure it's "hubris" so much as.....let's trust the old blokes and give them one last shot at it to make sure we've squeezed every last drop from the orange.

It looks like we have indeed done that, the orange is dry, so that's that. At least we didn't die wondering.

Dumb, lazy football that exposes the rubbish players we carry: we do it to ourselves.

I've never seen a team with as many weapons in the forward line as we have with so little structure going inside 50. The amount of times we have the ball at half forward and just stop because we have no clear pathway to goal is shocking. It gives the defence enough time to cover us and turn it over which exposes our midfield again and again. Simply awful coaching.

Time to put the old tier out to pasteur and give the kids like Dempsey, Knevitt et al a run. We are gonna get flogged the next two weeks anyway, may as well get something out of it.

They just beat us on our home ground and you're bagging them?

Weird take.
They won their grand final and I will never forget their antics after that finals game at KP throwing around tissues and being flogs towards the supporters after the game

**** them they will never win a flag

We've got a glass full of pith and seeds at the moment.

Stanley absolutely dominated the ruck contests.
Stanley's not the problem, it's the blonks at his feet.
There was no ruck craft at all to what Stanley was doing, he was just hitting the ball indiscriminately most of the time straight to a Freo player.

Simply put, we're gone. We just concede too much in the midfield, and then when your best defender makes two costly errors late in the game, and your superstar forward just couldn't hit the ocean if he jumped off the Fairstar, we just look like this. We always seem to lose in that 'close enough' kind of way this season, but honestly the sum of the parts of the year sees us just too far away.

And Blitz suffering a hammy and Hawkins looking similarly lame, i just can't see us mustering any more than one more win...all four sides are above us, including the top two. We might wind up with a pick in the top 10 given it's likely we'll fall below a lot of clubs, so maybe take it like perhaps a 2006 and reset for next season. Brilliant flag last year, but i think Father time might be getting his own back. We need to develop some midfield bulls to try and wrest some control there. And that is a process that will take time.

A bit like with Enright's 300th, sometimes we really fall flat with honouring a club legend. But seriously, when you get close to two goals up at home in the last quarter against an interstate side, and lose...it's saying we just aren't that good anymore.
This essentially is the long and short of it. As bad as we were across the board, we would've won this by 6 goals if Cameron had his kicking boots on and Stewart his normal composure. We are playing bad enough that those two performances were enough to swing the result.

And our defenders simply don't contest enough in the defensive 50.

Dempsey no. Knevitt yes
