I’m pretty confident we’ll beat the Pies and Blues at the ‘G, like we did last year (yes I’m aware the Blues beat us also), but we must find one win out of the Crows and Hawks matches, on exposed form it looks unlikely, but if we do we’ll be ok, the second half of our season looks pretty good tbh, can’t complain at getting the Dons and Tigers twice from Round 14 onwards…On the actual performance tonight, my biggest frustration was with Neale & Henry, not competitive enough in the air & they need to learn to be able to get it to ground.
Good defenders play off Ollie Henry, its been something thats hurt us in multiple games now is a big reason we miss Rohan as he played the similar role but also mixed in front half pressure, hes not a good enough player to show zero accountability for his direct opponent at all, hope they are showing him plenty of tape on Monday.

Huge elephant in the room and I'm glad you're bringing it to attention. Cameron has largely been a downhill skier for the last three years and gets away with his disappearing acts. Some of his performances have simply been atrocious for someone of his calibre but he's not held to the same standard as the elite. Most Jekyll and Hyde player I've ever seen who is in danger of becoming a complete flat track bully. Loves padding his stats when the game is largely over. He was amazing in 2022 but he has been an incredibly frustrating player for some time now.
He's always been like this unfortunately. It's not a new thing.

Living up in Sydney, I've attended more than my fair share of Giants games over the journey.

My mates and I used to joke before all of them that Cameron is either going to kick 6 today, or he's hardly going to touch the ball...and it happened every. single. time.

You notice it even more when you've got a cheeky bet on the game, as we often did back then (Gamble responsibly, ladies and gentlemen)

The only difference is at Geelong those "nothing games" are where he gets sucked up the field and ends up kick chasing, but it's the same premise.

He's either on the podium for BOG making it look easy, or he looks like a bumbling old man struggling to pick the ball up.

There's no inbetween with him. There never has been.

De Koning sadly hasn't been the same since his facial injury.
After his 2022 season, I honestly believed he had the potential to become like Adam Goodes or Anthony Koutoufides aka an absolute colossus who can play anywhere on the field.
Nowadays I see him as a similar player to Tim English.

Don't often get to see the team play live at the ground these days. One thing I miss about going week to week is being able to view play that happens away from the ball and to focus on a particular match-up.

Decided I'd try to scrutinise what the fuss is about Mullin (in between answering questions from my son such as "who are the people in purple" and "what would happen if the ball hit the guy standing in the middle of the goalposts".

So Mullin was definitely given a role to try to shut down their dangerous small forwards. No surprises. Spent majority of the time on Charlie Cameron but also had Ah Chee for significant periods and a little bit on Lohmann. None of those players had big impacts on the game so that's a real feather in his cap.

When Charlie was hovering around an open half-forward line, Mullin would wear him really closely. A few times he would drop back on him deep in defense. But it seemed like his main instruction was to patrol the arc and to pressure any set-up plays entering d50. Biggest thing that impressed me was that after a bit of a nervous start fumbling a mark and seeing Cameron get an early freakish goal, he kept his head up and drew confidence from getting involved on a clever attacking play at the other end and his game grew from there.

I hope the club persist with him in the seniors this season because I think the development will be worth it. On a night where a lot of players didn't seem interested enough, I felt glad to watch someone who looked like they wanted at the very least to earn the respect of their teammates.

You ever exercised in humidity?

I'm in FNQ these days, do quite a bit of running for an old boy.

mowed the lawns this afternoon though and it damn near depleted me; I was saturated in sweat; humidity can be brutal.

Cats folded badly against the Suns at the top end last year; they're really tough conditions to deal with, especially if you're not used to them. If you draw a Qld side in March/April you've got a task.

I know it's not necessarily going to happen, but I kinda wouldn't mind seeing something of a statement made at the selection table - reward Wiltshire or George for their starts to the VFL season with a senior debut, but at the expense of someone seen as more of a lock in the 22/23, rather than simply for a Clark, Clohesy or Knevitt straight swap
Wiltshire maybe but I would not be picking George

Out worked in the first half v Saints and out worked in the second half last night, we couldn't go with them, they continually out numbered us at the contest, that's work rate and maybe game plan too.

It was really humid last night. I was dripping sweat by the time I'd gotten to my seat after walking from having parked the car just outside the Gabba parking restrictions.

It felt like a reaming by the umpires, but it is tough to get the frees when you're second to the ball.

Did not hit up a forward target in the second half. Harris Andrews was not made accountable and killed us on our entries and then Zorko was let off the chain and was able to run free (loved that for Supercoach, not so much at the game).

Had my 7 year old nephew there for his first game. He loved the result, but wasn't so happy at half time.

Humidity also impacts recovery for next week

That was my first reason I said we'd lose. Brisbane will have been training in the humidity. We hadn't.

He should have been the sub. Knevitt is the wrong type of for the sub role
I think Clark should have been sub. He just played a "full game" at 63% ToG. You can't be naming a player for a full game of football of they are not capable of running out even a full half.

We completely missed an opportunity to use Knevitt's endurance in a slog and we also could have used him as a defensive forward on Andrews when Henry was getting 2 disposals in a half. Knevitt's contested marking as the conditions dried up could have also been useful

I was at the game.

It was a very muggy night, the track was wet and it was exhausting. We were at a very high intensity in the first half.

Something I haven't heard mentioned, given the horrible conditions, is each teams respective preparation.

Last round we were taken apart by StKilda, who were looking for a big scalp and who put in a huge amount of coaching work to analyse and beat our game style. We had to fight to come back and we put everything into that second half last week.

Brisbane played West Coast at Brisbane. West Coast are terrible yet the game was close. That tells me that Brisbane went into that game with an eye on playing us.

Given the above points, it would have been a huge win if we got up and we really weren't far off it anyway.

Play them at the MCG with Stewart back and we smash em.
