I was concerned today with SDK not playing today that our we maybe a bit short in defence. But it was great to see Blitz play in defence ( back in his day when he played mostly defence, he is a great Key Defender) one of Blitz better games for some time.

No need for finals interstate when finish top 2. You may need to go to Ballarat to support bulldogs in last game though

Port are probably a bigger threat to 2nd than gws because their % is slightly ahead (but i agree if gws lose in ballarat it helps us). We need to get as much % as we can next week in case port win both their games (this wouldnt have been an issue if sydney didnt get flogged by so much). Will come down to how much we beat wce by in that scenario.

Except for the one time he eased off on contesting the mark in front of Freo goal, leaving short arse Mannagh to give him a look that would pierce iron. :)
Otherwise very serviceable without starring.

Yeah that was a funny one; Mannagh was ill-equipped to deal with the situation and I felt as though Blicavs was just a step off reacting in time to affect the contest.

I did. Knew it was in as soon as he took possession!

He is a dead eye in those situations. Another good pressure game from him glad to see him get reward for effort.

Only real mistake when deep in defence was that out on the full latish in the match - definitely had more time than he thought

Fair call C09 - tbh I had some doubts as to whether he could transition back into a D50 role as seamlessly as he did (and I actually had some reservations about Blicavs as a KD in his initial 2-year incarnation in the role). But he was very, very good tonight; played smart.

Blitz was never reaching that contest. Foreshortening made him look closer than he actually was. All he would have done was arrive too late to affect the mark and potentially give away 50.

That's kinda how I saw it after an initial annoyance, too.

Mannagh was the only one able to affect that contest, and it really wasn't his bag.
Fair play; Freo earned themselves some good looks throughout the game.
But ours was by far the more efficient and potent forward line.

With Bruhn out, he'd have to be a chance. I reckon it'll be Rohan, SDK, Hardie in for Mullin, Bruhn, and as-yet-unnamed player to be managed.
Was Clohesy rested at half time today or injured? That might be your answer.

Wins the Carji doesn’t he?

I was gonna ask you that!

I think so.

I reckon he's our best/most important player, and he has really put in the work this year.

Refines his game a little more every couple of weeks.

Like; his game against the Magpies a few weeks ago was really disciplined; really safe with the ball where in the past he might have been a bit more speculative.

I think it will be tight. Zac guthrie will poll better than people think (been very good and coaches love him) as will dempsey but i think holmes is in poll position to win it.

Was an extremely poor effort that.

He wanted no part of that contest, and threw Mannagh under the bus.
I'm pretty sure he misjudged the flight the ball appeared to me to drop quickly at first I thought the same as you then on the replay I've given him the benefit of the doubt.

Still believe Cameron's been fantastic. The way he's played at either end and through the middle, we really would be struggling to make finals without him.

You could argue, he's the single most important player heading into the finals. A genuine 50/50 chance of having one of those 20 disposal & 5 goal performances in week 1 (or more if given the double chance).

Be a bummer not to finish top 4 from here. After winning a game like that, there's no excuse not to beat Saints and WCE. Strange year though... Of those still trying to contend for top 4, we have the best draw on the run home.
Not sure our record is that great the week after a trip to the West. We should win but I have had it down as a danger game

Why would any player be excluded from a post match drink
Because a couple of weeks ago, after an interstate win, he drank himself to such excess that he needed to be taken to hospital at 2 in the morning. He should be dry for the remainder of the year. Sticking with his teammates after the win and sticking to soft drink would be a nice way of sending a message to the playing group that he's committed to them and the cause, rather than going out with his friends to a night club and getting plastered.

I don't disagree, exactly.
Jeremy Cameron is a match-winner, and they are worth their weight in gold in the AFL.

But Holmes has the edge, for mine, in 2024.

He was big in setting our season up playing off half-back in those early season wins.

And apart from maybe a 2-week lull, he's consistently impacted games for us, often stepping up when we've fallen behind.

Of course you could very, very easily and credibly mount a case for either of Patrick Dangerfield or Tom Stewart as our most important players too.

And Zac Guthrie has barely made a mistake all year. I reckon he made a rare error tonight at one point; I was absolutely shocked, such is his consistency of effort and execution.
