Brisbane will probably kick a goal within the first minute and we will go to a watery piss like state and be 6 goals down at quarter time. The game will be over at that stage and we can then huff and puff a bit but ultimately lose by about 7 goals. Ken will tell us how hard the competition is but as long as we work harder next game we will be okay.
Yawn

So much negativity haha. Ken Hinkley aside, we are a huge chance this finals series. No team is dominnant and clearly above the rest. Brisbane, Collingwood and Melbourne are all very beatable. I am quite confident we will knock off Brisbane.
There will be 1-2 upsets week one. Why can’t it be us? I agree completely.

Yeah, I said players were deliberately feeding him the ball to boost his stats. No one ever said that the players didn't love Butcher. The guy was like Tim Tebow - he just couldn't play AFL.

P.S. Marshall went 11 disposals, 4 goals, 3 tackles, 1 goal assist and 8 score involvements against 2nd placed Brisbane in R1. What was Butcher's second best career game?

A forward kicked goals because his teammates deliberately fed him the ball? You know I reckon there might be something in this!

What’s this about airlines jacking up the prices from Adelaide-Brisbane for Saturday week?
All those millions they got from the taxpayers and this is what you get.

**** airlines. I’ve spent a small fortune on them in the past year as my mum battled cancer. It’s one thing that they charge a mint to travel even at stupid times like 6am in the morning but the service they provide has dropped away massively in the past 15 years.

This was due to every player feeding him the ball against a s**t Brisbane outfit. Butcher was also older than Todd Marshall is now.

Marshall went at 16 d, 10 m and 5 goals against Hawthorn this year. He also had 3 goal assists while Butcher had 0.

Marshall is a very good footballer.

Again, if it were easy, lots of players would be doing it. There are sides as bad as that Brisbane team every season.

I'll concede if you can find one other instance of a "spud" who wasn't AFL quality getting a 20d 11m 4g statline.

Even worse, we lack high speed rail in this country which would dramatically lower the price of travelling basically purely to protect Qantas. Capitalism at its finest.

Unless we sack Hinkley at some point between now and next Saturday, 'Hinkley aside' isn't a thing. The only thing that might count in our favour coaching wise is Fagan has a similar record of not getting it done in finals.

We definitely get screwed over in Australia.
In my travels around US and Europe you can always pick up cheap tickets.
Funny I just checked the ABC news … ACCC taking Qantas to court for allegedly selling tickets for flights it had already cancelled😂

I don't think Butcher was a spud in the sense that he couldn't play. I think all his issues were mental - when the pressure was off he was fine, but if there was anything riding on his boot he'd go to water and thus he wouldn't demand the ball the way that a Dixon, Marshall, Finlayson or even Georgiades does. As such, he had problems that no coach could fix. History is littered with people who had the talent but couldn't harness it for whatever reason.

Let's put it this way. Charlie Dixon's best game for score involvements came at that exact same venue and opponent the following year. He also had 20 disposals and kicked 4 goals.

The thing is, he backed it up the next week at home against West Coast with 3 goals.

I paid $1200 for flights 🫥
When are you flying in and out?

Flexible fares a few weeks ago were at about $1,200. I ended up paying about $800 but that was booking Sunday night on the guess that we'd be playing Saturday.

Qantas ended up being cheaper than the AFL's own sponsor Virgin Australia, and that was Qantas flying the smaller Embraer aircraft instead of the larger A320 or B737.

[RANT TIME]There's no denying the government has repeatedly mismanaged Qantas (at the very least, government cash should have been for a stake in the Airline), but lack of high speed rail in Australia is more about lack of population density. It really would only work as Brisbane - Sydney - Canberra (this one a maybe) - Melbourne. With half the problem, of every time it's proposed, everyone outside those cities wanting their town/rural city to be a stop. Which besides adding length to it, means all that time slowing down, loading/unloading passengers, speeding up again. At which point on average it isn't that fast.

A dedicated line hitting only those 3 (4) cities might work, if a fast enough train (average speed 250kph), then it could work. Infrastructure setup for fast loading / unloading (15 minute from pull in to depart), then Melbourne - Canberra in less than 3 hours, another 1.5hr to Sydney and then 4 hr to Brisbane. With runs either the full length, or various sections. You wouldn't replace all business travel (although run a 6am departure out of Sydney or Melbourne to the other and it'd replace the red eye flights for many), but non-business it'd cover almost as well, when you factor in how much time is wasted at airports. And if it happens to pass within 20-30km of Albury, Newcastle, etc. then stiff shit for them, they aren't getting a stop. Politicians (more Coalition, but ALP has been guilty of as well), is not being willing to say those outside the big 3 (4) Eastern seaboard cities will just have to miss out, for the good of the country.

Super late Friday night and Sunday mid-morning. I reckon you just got ahead of the game.

This game does have Port Prelim 2021 vibes

Brisbane have no excuse, their ground their time etc etc

If we can hang in and it’s close they might freeze up under the weight of all that expectation

That’s all I got positivity wise but it’s a thing
