Recent QF where the loser went on and won the GF:
Swans in 05 (2 vs 3) away loss at Subi
WC in 06 (1 vs 4) home loss at Subi
BL in 03 (2 vs 3) away loss at MCG
Hawks in 15 (2 vs 3) away loss in Subi
Richmond in 20 (2 vs 3) away loss at Gabba

Its very possible we get rolled next week at the Gabba but losing puts us in a tough spot where we'll likely bow out against Collingwood at the MCG in the PF if we make it that far, if at all.

If you watch Brisbane games at the Gabba they often have very slow starts and only fall over the line to win. They're not exactly unbeatable but they're evidently a 4-5 goal better side at the Gabba.

Only teams ahead of us I feel are Collingwood and Brisbane at the Gabba. Carlton/Melbourne 50-50 contests.

Predictably we're again probably the 3rd best team in it.

We should all be ashamed of the thread title.
Our lives will be judged by our acceptance of this monstrosity.

The Official PAFC Injury List as of 1 Sept ...

Scott Lycett listed as a week away from returning is playing in the SANFL this week and played last week. If the above list is current then there is little hope that either Dixon or McKenzie will face Brisbane.

Maybe the list is a blind designed to keep Brisbane guessing? It certainly has most Port supporters guessing.

Dixon can't be fit - my wife has a broken bone in her foot and it's taking weeks..... but not sure his, they aren't comfortable though.... but I do think ken plays ducks and drakes.... he's a gambler after all...

It should be a really good game and we can snatch this one no doubt.

The main differences with this team and the teams of the past are:

1. elite midfield
2. Josh Carr hopefully doing matchups and not Ken Hinkley - if this is the case, it will be a massive win for us.
3. it is the young guy's team
4. match winners - Rozee, Butters, Horne-Francis, Houston
5. creative play everywhere

Our midfield is better and more classier than their midfield.
The tagging role of Drew should obviously go to Lachie Neale. If we nullify him, we will go close to winning.
We need an open forward line with Marshall and Finlayson leading hard into space. This is imperative for the win. Their backs can be had.
Their midfield doesn't really kick goals so our defence has to play a bit tighter on their forwards.
They have many good but not great avenues to goal but they all add up. Charlie Cameron is a star. Daniher can be some serious trouble. Hipwood, Rayner, Bailey can pop up. They share it around.
Ruck is an issue but not as big of an issue as it has been in the past. If the Big O dominates, it will harder to win.

The major matchups down back are for Cameron and Daniher. I'm worried they will put Burton on Cameron.
If Wines plays the in and under role well, we will go close. Ditto Drew.
I can't wait to see a motivated, hard-running Powell-Pepper in the finals again. He could star.
Wings are a little bit of a concern. Run hard and go for your marks, X-Man.
The Hornet could do some things that will wow the AFL.
Our Achilles heel could be kicking straight for goal.
If we get a bit of time to display our skills, we should run over them. We would only need a quarter of loose checking by the Lions to kill the game.

It really is a new team in a way. After Rozee, Butters and Houston getting AA honours, it is time to shine in finals. They are completely capable and have been building for this moment. This will be their first time in which it is on their shoulders to take the team to victory.

I also think the Sex Panther was built for finals. He could do some arousing things on the field.

And I think it is time to let bygones be bygones and get 100% behind the lads and even the coaching staff.
I am not a big fan of Hinkley but I am going to let it go until the year is finished.
It is finals and we don't want negativity.
This is the time of the year to support the lads.
It is an open year in finals and we could nab the Cup and start a freakin' Dynasty people!
And don't you want that swagger back in your walk.

To the CEO of Bigfooty Ltd,

I must express my deep disappointment at the title of this thread to discuss next weekend's Qualifying Final between the second placed Brisbane Football Club and the third placed Port Adelaide Football Club (hereinafter referred to as "the PAFC"), the winner of which will progress to a preliminary final at their home ground in two weeks' time.

In a blatant and unprofessional disregard for good taste, the thread title refers to the PAFC as 'Ports'. This is not and has never been the name of the PAFC. Referring to the PAFC in such a disrespectful and cavalier manner has the potential to cause great confusion and to lower the standing of the club in the eyes of the general public.

Please correct the thread title to refer to the Port Adelaide Football Club in full within twenty-one (21) days, or else you will be hearing from my solicitors.

Sincerely,
Mr S. Z. Fest

It also gives the women and full run at round 1. Hopefully there's a few more at Norwood on Saturday.
There shouldn't be a need to compromise the men's competition for the women's competition. The AFLW should stand on its own merits. Last season was the first time the AFLW kicked off in the pre-finals bye despite the pre-finals bye starting in 2016 and AFLW starting in 2017 so giving the AFLW season "clear air" for round 1 doesn't seem to be part of the AFL's justification for it.

How dare you discuss the upcoming game in the game preview thread!

Anyways, I agree with your first point. Midfields win premierships and ours along with the Demons is the best. Game will be won or lost here

If we’re on we can do well. The problem with all Port teams, will we be “on” when it comes to a big game?

Brisbane’s midfield is strong also, their forward line and defence is more potent than ours, we need to dominate the midfield For 4 quarters. Let Cameron run up the ground, really sitting back flooding is probably a better way to play Brisbane than forward press.
