Is this the team we lost to by 10 goals last year but the club acted like they won because we won possessions and inside 50s or something
Tore us to shreds with their ball movement. They played the game of theirs lives, we played a shocker.

Undoubtedly we've improved in our mid to fwd connection. Will be interesting to see how our defence holds up against their movement.

A lot of the angst against McEntee was that he fit the mould of every other nugget that Ken has become fixated on playing regardless of performance. Unlike Neade, S. Gray or Sutcliffe, he's growing into the pressure forward role nicely.

He definitely does look like a classic inside mid though. If one of our mids go down, he would be a decent option to throw in the centre.
There was a lot of angst because he was a fumbly player who didn't execute in front of goal, and made crucial mistakes in important moments, all whilst applying nearly zero pressure. Plus he could barely find it.

His turn around has not only been phenomenal, but totally impossible to predict. He is playing better than anything he's ever shown at SANFL level, by a long way. He showed literally zero at times. Should've been delisted. Then suddenly it has all clicked, his role is making sense, he is applying good pressure, he is providing an in tight ball hunter in the F50, and most importantly, apart from some occasional shockers, he is executing in key moments.

If he keeps this up, at his young age, he has a long future ahead.

Sounds like the next Gary Ablett. 😲

Wish I could see what others seem to fap about in him. 😕

Whatever!

I didn't say they were the same player. The thing they have in common is that they all kept getting picked in the forward line without showing anything. People were scarred from that and fearing McEntee would haunt us similarly.

Lachie Neale is 177cm, Zorko is 175cm.

Of course he's way off at the moment in terms of body mass but he's got some real terrier, extractor traits like a Neale or a T. Mitchell, and a small inside extractor is one element missing from our midfield mix at the moment. That's what he was drafted as, and he's already attended a couple of centre bounces.

... for a grand total of 4 career clearances.

And I know he's playing that pressure forward role, but don't overlook the fact that he's had single digit possessions in 4 of his 8 games this year.

If McEntee is playing regular midfield minutes, we're a bottom 6 team.

Everything is humming for us now in terms of midfield and defence with the personnel we have available. Boak needs to get back in. Look much better with Jonas out.

Forwardline and conversion needs to improve. Good weather this week at AO and then Marvel against bulldogs will help a bit, but still need to sort this.

If fit Dixon and Marshall need to come in. Finlayson has to get back his mojo - his yips might just be a case of all the extra running and holding up the forwardline, also the position on the ground he is getting his shots on goal - Dixon and Marshall will help him.

For me Rioli stays in, feel like he can help conversion, and the more games he plays, the better we/him will get. SPP generates a lot of shots at goal, but also misses a heap. Still worth the energy he brings. DBJ has been good taking out running half backs, and getting some shots at goal/hitting targets.

Mcentee I guess has the 7th spot, and doing his role. The other option would be giving a defender some midfield time like Houston/Bergman, and making the 7th spot for resting midfielders/defenders - like Rozee, Butters, JHF, Burton, Bergman, Houston even. All who can kick straight.

Not sure if this unbalances the side too much though.

Jed is a reasonably good footballer who has been asked to learn and play a ‘new’ role for him, which he is doing. I am not surprised at all he is doing well, you could see it in the last two games of 2022. Fun fact, we have won every game he has played in this year, the last 8. Has only played a TOTAL OF EIGTEEN GAMES, and hopefully continue to improve. So people, give it a rest and enjoy his game.

He is one of only three players in the side that I have confidence in them being able to convert a set shot! Marshall is top of the list, McEntee is second, and the surprise third one is Byrne-Jones. The rest? .... I just want to look away!

The moniker "Mac & Cheese," originally given to him as an insult, in my eyes has become a badge of honour. After all, doesnt everyone need a bit of Mac & Cheese in their diet?

I think even one of the commentators used it in our Melbourne game.

Butters?

I like both, but not maggots-in-cheese
I must admit that hate mac & cheese too ... I love an al dente pasta though, with a rich sprinkling of Pecorino Romano cheese!:thumbsupv1:

Like a good chef, you need to re-imagine the stale old classic into a gourmet dish. If McEntee keeps the same trajectory of progress going, he will be a real star in 2 years time. McKenzie is another that come to mind ... someone that was dumped on, but is now our best-22 backman.

Butters set shots in the last couple weeks (apart from that attempted round the corner shot, which my son goes mental everytime someone attempts them, he says "why dont they just kick it normally") have been clutch.
