Absolutely not. We can only play three midfielders at once. Mead doesn't justify a spot ahead of any Rozee, JHF, Butters, Boak or Drew; and that's not even accounting for guys like SPP and Houston who are also better midfielders but that we've found other roles for. He's not AFL quality.

I think this is the week Lycett gets dropped. He had a hand in nearly everything bad that happened on Saturday
I disagree, someone needs to be the workhorse ruck plodder grinding down the opposition.
It then allows us to unleash the thoroughbreds in bursts later.

Charlie should never ruck all day: had be been in the ruck all game, he would not have had the impact he did in the last quarter.

If grinding down the opposition means, giving away careless frees, grabbing the ball out of the ruck and handing it straight back to the opposition, and not winning hit outs, then sure

Also, for people calling for DBJ to play forward - that experiment will end the same way Sam Gray did. Neither of them are small forwards, and they don't have goal sense.

Yes not sure he is a full time small forward either.
What he did do though was have some composure and kick it to our advantage, by lowering his eyes, instead of most of our others who just kick long to the square hoping Charlie might mark it.
He actually made a real difference when he came on and probably fits the sub role really well. Given he can play in every part of the ground.

In: Hayes, Burton
Out: Lycett, Jonas
English is the last man we want Hayes to play on. Far too mobile and Hayes will self combust by quarter time.

I actually think it would be a good game for Teakle to play in, as he has a more similar profile to English and should be able to stick with him around the ground a bit better.

with Naughton, Lobb and Ugle Hagan up forward, we need Jonas to play - unless we're bringing Clurey in for him.

In: Burton, Teakle
Out: McEntee, Lycett
DBJ remains the sub

Possibly drop Mead for Clurey for the extra height in defense if the weather is good, which will also free up Aliir to play loose.

The problem with replacing Lycett for Hayes is that while you may get a lift in hitouts, you'll get the same lack of impact around the ground. And given we have been pretty good in clearances this year, I don't think HOs are the problem we need to address.

As much as I'm not sold on Teakle making it, he can take a good grab and is quite athletic - so I'd be interested in giving him a couple of games and seeing if he can be a nuisance taking some grabs as the spare behind play.

DBJ had something like 4 score involvements in 15 minutes - nearly kicked a goal as well (touched on the line). Playing him as a half forward could work, and he may even be able to do a defensive job on someone like Caleb Daniel. Would do a better job of it than Lachie Jones certainly did!

Swapping DBJ and Lachie Jones (who's been playing fwd lately) might solve a lot of issues at both ends to be honest.

You're right, he's definitely not in front of a bunch of lads. He would be in a rotation but with far less minutes than the others you've mentioned.

He would play predominately at hf but give him a run through the middle say once a quarter and rest JHF, Zak and Connor forward at different times (not necessarily all together). That would be a difficult proposition for the oppo defence as well.

Put him in there with say Wines and Boak not with Drew and JHF for example and let him evolve. This is the year to do that while we are treading water waiting for a new coach.

I'm fine with Lycett playing this week. Tim English will be BOG no matter which of Lycett or Hayes we play, and I'd rather not give Ken the opportunity to use that as an excuse to banish Hayes back to the SANFL forever even though Lycett would have performed just as badly.

No one from the SANFL deserves a call up.

Burton in for someone, I’m not sure who though.

Mead didn’t do enough for me but that really isn’t like for like.

Holy crap, just saw the forecast.

The biggest rain events we have in Adelaide generally come from these ex-tropical cyclones that feed down from the top of WA, so to see that's what they're predicting for Saturday is not a good sign. Especially with so many games at the ground. If it happens to rain hard from the 1st game through to our game by some chance then the ground could we'll start to trend towards a mud pit.

Shit weekend for that sort of weather with Gather round and everything.

Given the conditions, I would drop Lycett and Farrell. I'd move DBJ back, bring in Burton and keep Mead in the lineup. Mead is more suited than most our players to those contested wet conditions so probably worth persisting for another week. I also don't think we need to be very tall given Lycett is pretty useless, and Finlayson at ground level in these conditions could be a big boost.

Would expect that the Dogs are better suited to the wet, so will be interesting to see how that plays out.

Def won't see Hinkers coaching from the bench then.
