Roswell, he played very well and it wasnt the case about touches he did a great job on Fisher and was in every fight we had standing up for the club he loves
This stood out for me today, great to see someone with passion out there. He's a perfect example and should play out the year.

Im all for playing Ben, but not sure why were are considering to play him down back.

Looks every bit like the 15 or so other blokes on the list who don't really play like they're designed to or how we need them to.

Seems like the perfect HBF/Midfield-rotation player but looks all at sea in 1-on-1 contests both positioning and strengthwise, runs in an ungainly fashion to the point where it looks like he has stones in his Sfidas and is slow across the ground. Like most left-footers is painfully one-sided and the elite kick we supposedly bought looks anything but both in terms of style - almost as awkward as Paul Northeast - and decision-making, really struggles to judge depth if anything.

What is he going forward? HBF? Outside midfielder? Inside midfielder? He just doesn't seem to suit anything other than another bits and pieces square-peg utility at a time when we are crying out for pure midfielders.

Hopefully the promised new broom in the coaches box can extract what he apparently showed at U18 level, but for now a month or two at the Maggagies would be beneficial in my humble opinion.

i was at the game and there was easily 10 worse than kane and road runner was unfortunately one of them

Kane was my favourite player for years, but he offers absolutely nothing anymore. Trade him at years end while he still has any value.

He doesn't have a defensive side anymore, he seagulls across the half back line and butchers the ball time and time again. None of his 21 touches were in anyway damaging, and I doubt he's had a damaging possession in weeks. Drop/trade/delist.

I haven't seen the game but by the silence Banner did ok?

Started slow but racked it up in the 2nd half.

Hopefully the coaching staff give him an extended run of games and minutes - you get the feeling that once he acclimatises to the increased pace, his teammates and feels like he belongs he'll be a real accumulator.

Can see him being dicked around and named as sub this week though.

I think we can sum up Kornes by todays game. St Kilda players leave him open to get the first kick out from a point, they ****ing leave him open because they know they can get a turnover/force a boundary throw in because he either has a poor disposal or makes a negative decision and goes sideways or backwards, so planning for PAFC you know let him have it as this will guarantee the ball will be stuck in the Port backline or a turnover.

We went to shit it seems when Motlop got dropped and was really settling into the roll across half back where he was setting us up as he was kicking the ball over the zone and to space and advantage, at least in space our players are 50/50 chance not when u kick to someone in a zone it's usually always on the defensive sides numbers.

Out: Kornes, Stewart (dropping ****ing easy marks again), whoever
In: Motlop, Moore, Surjan (Brogan if possible but won't happen)

In :
a Jetstar airliner to crash in to AAMI stadium and take out half of nextweeks opposition
and whilst even then we are still losing the still running undamaged jet engine turbulance creates an artificial head wind going our way at 200 mph towards our goals and ...and ..and oh heck we would still find a way to lose...
..maybe one of the air hostessess could stagger towards our F50 bleeding all over the place ,elbow Stewart out of the way, and take a mark and kick a goal for us..

thank god i'm not the only one who feels this way. You continously read articles by mugs in the media such as KG who sing the praises of Kornes and state how he's still such a champion and i get the feeling like

Changes....well

It doesn't matter ...the same story plays every week and I ain't even mad angry or frustrated ....I am bored...can we at least lose in a different way port just to "change" things a bit just so I can say ooo that's a different way to lose by the end of the game.

Out: the same story week in week out of losing

In: new entreating way of losing....maybe we can throw in a mega flood or throw rodan in the ruck for shits and giggles because it's all a big joke...we will all laugh our way forward, supporters to pay their money to the team and players collecting a cheque ...

...sigh..:(

Agreed. I was worried he was going to be subbed off after a pretty quiet first half but he really did get himself into the game alot more after that. Still wasn't great mind you, but did get a fair bit of ball.

At TP14 I can pretty vividly remember a kick from kane that went from the back 50 arc and hit Logan on the chest 50 metres forward on the wing. Was a brilliant kick. I don't care if you were exaggerating, Kane just cops way more than he deserves on this board. I can remember people saying pretty much the same thing about him last year and he won our BnF.

To be honest if the guy got 30 touches, and 20 inside fifties, but kicked one ball backwards 10 metres in the backline when he had a 50-50 option up field, people would probably come out of the game saying that his touches weren't damaging and cite that one kick.

Anyway, as for changes I would probably drop Ebert and Broadbent and bring in Phillips and Motlop.

I don't want Stewart dropped until the end of the year, at which point if he shows nothing I think he is goneskies. Has just been so disappointing this year, which really hurts after the promise he showed. Maybe we give him one more year but I'm not really sure that he will get that.

It really is a case of shuffling the deck chairs, but if Brogan's fit, I'm looking forward to us playing our first match this season with two genuine ruckmen and we will need it against Jamar and Martin.

I don't know the status of Phillips' injury, but here goes:

Outs:
D. Stewart - don't care for what Francou suggests anymore. Big guys take time, but have to show some progress over a two year period. This guy fumbles and drops simple marks to the point that you'd have to think he will never be a reliable player, even when his best occurs more frequently.

Ebert - can't find anything positive in his game anymore. The handball at the feet of Cassisi just before our first goal sums him up. Some of his long, blind kicking into our forward 50 left a lot to be desired. Delist or trade at season's end.

Salter - he won't get dropped because we perceive that we need to play three tall defenders. But reality is that he isn't up to it in that role back there and is no better than Pettigrew, who as we know sucks.

Kornes - sick of the non-role that he is playing. Another who must be moved on at the end of the season.

Only in the side because of a lack of alternatives:
Broadbent - he just needs an almighty shake-up. He either is lazy, or quite simply isn't up to it. His slow running to the contest invariably results in him getting there metres after his opponent and then instead of chasing him hard, he peels off holds his hands outstretched and zones mid-air. The Peake run around against him in their forward pocket in the third spoke volumes for Broadbent's lack of agility, defensive strategy and speed. Very concerned that his limitations are real and not just work-rate related.

Rodan - six possessions does not cut it.

Ins:
Brogan - to the ruck, with Lobbe playing out of the forward line when resting.

Surjan - should be played in defence to free up Jacobs to play up field and show what he's got near the ball.

Phillips - assuming he's fit. We missed his run and bite yesterday, as Ebert was no substitute for it.

Motlop - to play in defence or on the wing and try to run the ball and deliver long and fast to the forwards.

we wouldnt be able to get that right ... the plane would get directed to Max's oval and take our cars out!

and btw ... we're playing in Darwin! :D

Ok ready to get shot down but.....

Broadbent.. How does this guy get a game? doesnt get enough of the ball, runs like hes wearing cemente shoes?? Might be ok but not good at the moment.
It was so noticable at the ground today watching there mids V ours. They spread so quickly and got outside ours anytime they needed to. and we just chased tail, again.
Were getting that way as we have a heap of one paced plodders, Thomas, Logan, Broadbent, Kornes, even Cassisi. And then the players with no defencive running, Rodan and Pearce....

Salter.. Got hammered again in the back lines...

Kornes. enough been said.

In all seriousness, if Jacob Surjan doesn't get a full game this week, I have no doubt he'll walk out of this club at year's end. Hell, I'll be shocked if he sticks around after how he's been treated so far this year. So:

In all seriousness, if Jacob Surjan doesn't get a full game this week, I have no doubt he'll walk out of this club at year's end. Hell, I'll be shocked if he sticks around after how he's been treated so far this year.

It's almost as if he and the other handful are being punished for not stepping back up to the very good/elite level as expected, while other inferior players can plod around with impunity regardless of readiness/form.

The problems begin when the playing group divides along the lines of Matthew's pets and Matthew's mutts - exacerbated by the utter inconsistency and confusion of whatever the actual selection policy is intended to be.

Nobody can say with a straight face that Jacob Surjan isn't genuinely in our best 18, and yet he's found himself exiled at the Magpies for the bulk of the year with notable teasing exceptions where he's been in and out without an opportunity to bed back in. Has been banging the door down for a month when we've been woeful and still can't get back in.

In contrast, Salter comes back off injury and rubbish SANFL form and gets a gold pass due to being 191cms. Never mind he's not a defender's stingy arseh*le, he's in because we apparently must have a bogstandard third defender regardless.

Then there's Salopek. Got rocked in the preseason when reportedly flying and despite a couple of so-so games where he still got a fair bit of it, finds himself in the wilderness of Glenelg, or 'Glenelg'. Sure, his tank was depleted and needed to be revived, but then explain Rodan's near instant returns from injury and the subsequent tolerance of his underwhelming anonymity? Or Broadbent's increasingly lame duck displays bar one good game?

Daniel Motlop. In one week, plays OK, then has a quiet one on the end of a shellacked midfield, is trialled as a HBF where he does surprisingly well and nope, back at Prospect. Brett Ebert comes in off of so-so SANFL form, is poor, one-dimensional and stays in.

Then there's Pearce and Kornes.

One is sent to Sturt to be sent a message, is largely ordinary and comes back for good despite none of the linebreaking, goalsense or explosiveness that makes him relevant and the other spent a week at WWT2's where absolutely nothing of value could be gleaned - and if anything he's worse.

All the while 10 other plodders go around each week adding nothing to the team.

Is it any wonder confidence is shot and no-one seems to give a shit?

A little off topic but...

I am clinging to the vague hope that it is all part of a "bigger plan"
Maybe Matty is doing what Woosher (clearly in hindsight) did last year.
He tanked, plain and simple. Now look at the coasters. No-one can go from spoon to top 4 contenders in less than a year unless it was planned including tanking.

Please let this be the case with us, I know its a shallow draft etc etc but we either get *some* picks to replace spuds or nothing - this is the case our cross town rivals will end up with just too many wins for any decent picks (such as they are).

We are not good enough by a big margin so if we finish higher than bottom we are not getting the picks we could.

I know I'm grasping at straws here but there must be some hope somewhere .....

I would love Surjan and Logan to play this week. If we had those 2 and Chad in our defence we'd at least show some fight, and when the ball does go to ground at least try and win it. Melbourne, when they are on, are ferocious in their tackling and forward pressure and will smash us this week if we're not ready to match them

Promote Webb and bring him in for D Stewart. May as well give him a run around.

Rest Brogan til after the bye.

Why not just chuck Redden in the deep end. He can spend most of his time in teh forward pocket with Shulz as the lead up FF so his fitness shouldnt be too much of an issue and he could give the Lobster a chop out for the 5 minutes that Stewart currently does.

He seems a much more natural goal kicker and a much more natural ruck than Stewart is.

Webb has played as a backman in the league on occasions. This may give Salter the chance to go forward. Also has been used alot in the ruck in recent games. Got similar numbers to Redden in the hitouts against Glenelg last week also. :):):)

I went with Webb because he's just hanging on so we may as well see if there's any reason to keep him. Redden is safe.

Redden has just come back to his first league game from a long layoff. Webb has been playing all year, mostly at league level and has the fitness and athletic ability to handle Darwin better.

As the Power have no chance of making the finals can Matty Primus please drop the Magpie boys. Better one team makes the finals than none. I think we can still win without the Power boys at the Magpies, but i'd love to see them playing somewhere.

Anyway on a serious note now.

OUT: CHAPLIN - EBERT - D.STEWART - TRENGOVE (injured) - JACOBS - HITCHCOCK

IN: D.MOTLOP - SALOPEK - BASS (rookie elevation) - PETTIGREW - M.MOTLOP - SURJAN

oh shit completely forgot about trengove being injured :O! Does he have a broken arm or what???
