In respect to Trew, Ledwards and XON the club should be systemic in its approach.

With a more substantial role available these guys should be given a shot to prove themselves at the highest level, if they fall short move on and delist then at seasons end.

Currently O'Neill had a fair crack and struggled to reproduce what his best from 12 months ago. He should be seen as mid forward competing against the likes of West.

If someone like Trew could become a ball winning accumulator it would alleviate the pressure on Ginbey to win the ball and we could get him and others in a more attacking mindset and start building synergy around stoppages.

Trew or Clark might become consistent midfielders that's all we need as depth until the new draftees make their way at AFL .

Cannot keep turning players over with our current list and injuries . Tough list situation at WC 🙏

Hey all. How has Josh Rotham been playing?

Is he likely to stay in the senior side this year?

Does he lose the spot when Gov comes back? Or is it someone else he’s competing with?

Understand the injury issue though. You’ve been absolutely hammered.

Most here would have him as one of the first out when(/if) we start getting players back from injury.

He's barely best 22 when we have a fit side - but we're a fair way off that so will likely play most of the year pinch hitting in different roles.

Obviously got completely pantsed by Curnow a couple of weeks ago.

Since then he’s been… okay. Has a couple of brain fart moments per game (inexplicably drops an uncontested mark, takes too long to kick and gets run down, etc) but he’s also done some pretty good things.

Might be on my own here but I’d like to see him get a few more games. To me he seems like a confidence player so if he can string together some good games, it’ll be great for him.

Wow....this bored has lost it.

Trew has played....what 5 games?

Was awesome on debut last year, was injured the first year on the list and being playing the last 18 months in a bog average Wafl team with zero leadership. Looks to be clean below the knees and quick hands.

Yes, it's unlikely we have a 150 game player. But give the guy a chance.

Shown more than XON
Wouldn't say he was awesome on debut. He had a good 3rd qtr. 13 disposals, 1 tackle, 1 mark, 1 goal. Did show some good hands in that 3rd qtr however. Backed it up with 7 touches (3 clangers) and 2 tackles in the next game.

The 2 games he's played this year have been very dissapointing. Its not just the lack of finding the ball ( 0 possessions in a half) but he's effort has looked off as well. Missing tackles and not going in hard. Thought with him playing for his career he'd be a bit more at it.

Unless he has a remarkable run to the end of the year I think he's gone at the end of the season.

Xon has had better games at AFL level but my faith in him has gone too. They are really the type of players who needed to show something this year and havent yet.

Might take the whole 26 across if they’re worried about flu going through the group.

Not the worst week to take extras over with there being no WAFL game

West Coast is on high alert after midfielder Luke Edwards was ruled out of this weekend’s trip to Tasmania with illness.
Coach Adam Simpson has revealed the Eagles will fly with a full squad of 26 plus another reserve, covering themselves for a potential outbreak.
Edwards was named on an extended interchange bench for Sunday’s bottom-of-the-table clash against Hawthorn in Launceston but has since been replaced by highly-rated first-year player Elijah Hewett.

If he plays, it will be Hewett’s first appearance at any level since sustaining an ankle injury in the opening minute of West Coast’s WAFL loss to West Perth in round two, a little over a month ago.
The Swan Districts product has so far played three AFL games in his debut season at the Eagles after getting drafted with pick 14 in the national draft.
Coach Adam Simpson confirmed Edwards did not have COVID, telling reporters “the flu is just as powerful at the moment” and flagging extra players will be taken to Tasmania.

Chesser (knee) headlines a trio of young inclusions alongside key defender Rhett Bazzo (concussion) and small forward Noah Long (hamstring).
Chesser hasn’t played since the round three western derby, making a successful return in the WAFL last weekend.
More to come.

If withdrawing Luke Edwards is considered tanking then it just highlights how significant our injury list is

Long in for Darling
Chesser as sub

Hewett, Bazzo, Trew and one other (Barnett?) get some frequent flyer points

Jack Williams was available this week I think
Dewar and Baker about the only other ones left

I like Trew's ability to find the ball in tight and his quick hands. But I don't rate his kicking, and I'm concerned he won't ever have the strength for that inside role at AFL level (he tends to struggle sticking/shrugging tackles). Sam Walsh is similarly built but has insane work ethic and more talent, whereas I agree that Trew seems to lack effort (or does he just look lethargic?) There's also the recent loss of his mum, wouldn't be surprised if that's affecting his efforts.

Either way I'd want to see Trew get another couple of games in the middle before deciding if he joins XON on the scrapheap at the end of the year.
