I think Hawks beat us and North, we beat north later on in the season and maybe one of the other late games. We'll finish 16th/17th. Everyone is on the Harley band wagon but if we don't split our first pick i'm coming around more and more each game to drafting McKercher with our first.

And then lose him to the Tassie team?

Am struggling to maintain interest...
Playing a bottom team in Tassie with a seriously depleted side and more injuries
than you can poke a stick at..wonder who'll get injured this game? (it's now become routine)
Another game closer to the bye..

Chad Wingard (calf) will miss Hawthorn’s clash with West Coast. Sam Mitchell, now COVID-negative, says he’s keen to respect Alastair Clarkson’s privacy. “It is a serious thing, stepping away is a big decision…hope we can all respect his privacy.”

Why would they ask Mitchell about Clarko? ...

Why would they ask Mitchell about Clarko? ...

Assuming due to their current feud where Hawks aren't happy about Clarkson's comments regarding Mitchell's his early grand final performances.

IN - Chesser , Long

OUT - Darling ,

J William is a chance not sure who he replaces other then Jamieson .
Hewett could come into the squad as the sub also .

Difficult to drop players when the injury list is so high .

I know this may sound crazy but I think with development Jamieson could be a better defender than Harry Edwards. Has the height and reach, has significantly better agility, a better jump and is faster.

I know this sounds crazy but I think he could legitimately be a very good KPD.

Absolutely agree with Jamo playing def and have thought a similar thing.

Even for team balance - the 2nd ruck having to play forward almost seems like a bit of a trope from juniors where if you have a player who's learning the game/a bit unco the coach names them in the fwd pocket cause they'd always rather the backline be settled. Which often didn't make sense to me cause I feel you need a bit more AFL sense and smarts to be a forward and actually create/seperate from your opponent. As someone with personally not the most natural gamesense I'd much rather play backline and when in doubt, just annoy/limit your opponent.

At AFL level I'd ideally want both lines to be settled! We're playing Allen, Waterman, Darling and in future probably Allen + 2 of Waterman, JWilliams and a good target we bring in. It looks like it kind of limits them and their structures when the kicks into the 50 are getting wasted on Bailey and Jamo. And down the other end it always looks like between Barrass/McGovern they need one of the opposition key forwards taken out of the game by someone else so they can double team/not have to defend all the time. The Def/2nd ruck just looks like it makes so much sense for the team - if we find a backup ruck who's a natural forward great but I don't want to shoehorn anyone in there.

And in Jamos case as you say he's got that athleticism - key def will let him think a split second behind rather than a split second in front of his opponent as a forward which would probably help him. If he's a bit invisible as a defender that's probably a good thing cause his man wouldn't have been doing much and would let our natural key defenders shine, you're sort of always involved in the game if you're standing on a forward.

The next wave of key forwards (King brothers, Larkey, Wright, Ugle Hagan etc) look like these lanky, quick, fit, high marking types that athletically Jamo looks entirely suited to go with more than HEdwards or even Barrass in a way. That Larkey game last year felt a bit unfair to judge him on as he was thrown to the wolves a bit with not much support around him - if he's at WAFL level and Barnett needs some ruck time, let's get him down back where the ball will always be and build a bit of knowledge on playing on forwards, same probably at AFL level, it's a development year.

Luke Edwards in for Darling + Chesser as sub with Trew traveling emergency. I just realized that there is no WAFL this week because of the state game so after playing WAFL last week they will be keen to get some more minutes into Chesser so I think he will be sub. The other returning players like Long + Bazzo will come back next week in the WAFL.

****ing hell who do I even tip in this race to the bottom?

I don't believe Hawthorn can actually lose this one without doing something so blatant that it will result in sanctions. Their midfield has been pretty good and ours has been dire.
