Great to see a few coming back. Looks just too weak on a few lines to get us over the line. The effort and energy should be there. Interesting to see Foley pushing Clark out of the wing.

Looking forward to the 'play the youth' V 'dont play underdone players' brawl

Most likely Luke Edwards into the 22 to replace Darling with one of Long, Trew, Chesser or Bazzo to be the sub

Bazzo the least likely but could make a case for any of the other three

Jack Williams, Barnett, Dewar, Baker and Hewett all fit to play but left out of the 26 man squad

Burgiel, Hurn and Yeo a chance for some game time next week but that’s it for the cavalry this side of the bye

Long, Trew, Bazzo and Chesser in the extended squad.

After a few drinks I'm willing to agree that its acceptable to describe Long (has played some good footy already this year) Chesser and Hewett (done nothing yet but high draft pedigrees) as'young guns'.

But if Zane Trew (off the rookie list, two average years in our horrifically bad WAFL team, 3 entirely unmemorable senior games) is a 'young gun', suma is a respected football writer.

Trew was a gun in Colts or racked up big disposal numbers in Colts , starting to get good numbers at WAFL level and with good disposal .

Having a tough year personally but is still a chance , maybe outside chance but a chance .

Yeah they should’ve gone with “Three young almost guns and a spud have come in”

Much better

We can’t have the social media team trying to be positive or anything

Looking forward to seeing this quoted in Mitch Woodcock’s next article.

Trew had 30 odd touches last week.

It’s about the closest thing we’ve had this year to rewarding performance at WAFL level. I can’t see us not having him come in this week even as sub.

In my thoughts I think Long comes back in for balance up forward.

In: Edwards, Trew (sub) Long
Out: Darling, Jones (both injured), Clark

Hough on the bench is interesting- perhaps Chesser comes in to play off HB.

As for Jamieson, sometimes players get pigeonholed as a ruck simply because of their size. I’d be quite happy for us to trial Jamo at FB I think he’s athletic enough for it. Look at Ratugolea for example - he’s got a bit of developing but has looked far and away his most comfortable at AFL level down back.

Wow....this bored has lost it.

Trew has played....what 5 games?

Was awesome on debut last year, was injured the first year on the list and being playing the last 18 months in a bog average Wafl team with zero leadership. Looks to be clean below the knees and quick hands.

Yes, it's unlikely we have a 150 game player. But give the guy a chance.

"Vicious infighting amongst Eagles faithful shows club has lost its way"- Mitchell Woodcock

I've watched Hawks a few times this season and they are not that bad. They have been in most games and have a decent upcoming midfield. Sam Mitchell has done a pretty good job I thought with there rebuild.

Just missing a quality key forward and back.

Us on the otherhand have issues all over the ground. We need this number 1 pick. Can't see us beating Hawks

For those "wanting" us to lose, it's pretty dang poor really. You should want your team to win every game they play. Getting the wooden spoon is a forever stain on our club's history. And right now, expecting someone like Harley Reid to walk in and suddenly we're a good team is just plain naive. Gold Coast had arguably the greatest AFL player ever in their side at his absolute peak and they still stank.

Win this game, finish 16th, draft a quality mid and some other kids and keep working our way back up. No quick fixes for this, just ask Carlton or Melbourne, and the former still haven't got it right.

That's a big problem though, as quality KPP take 3-4 seasons minimum to be consistent. It's damning that they haven't played finals since 2018 but still have a few seasons to go before they've rounded out their team (due to the KPP problem).

That's my biggest gripe with people claiming we're at the bottom due to list management decisions. The only point which you would concede we had to rebuild was 2021 and the club committed to the draft (rather than the Richmond and Hawthorn approach of trying to grab some mid aged mids to keep continuing). Compare this to Hawthorn, who remained in denial until 2021 (or arguably even the end of 2022 when they culled Mitchell and OMeara).

Yes, part of why we are at the bottom is due to off field mismanagement (particularly our S&C and CEO), but recruiting hasn't been the issue.

Complete list of number 1 picks that have gone to a wooden spooner and won a premiership:

Headland, Des.

That is all.

Only three other number 1 picks have won a flag. Banfield, who joined the reigning premiers in 1992 after we hoodwinked Sydney for pick 1. Hodge, who joined Hawthorn after Freo traded the number 1 pick for Croad and McPharlin. And Boyd, who did join the wooden spooners but asked for a trade after a year and ended up winning a flag with his new club.

Well they could hardly say "3 young guns and 1 no hoper " could they?

Kane Mitchell came in off the street after retiring a year or 2 ago and got 30 possessions for us.

Trew should be dominating regularly at WAFL level by now but unfortunately he’s not up to it.
