I like Atley but I think he could go just for now too. He needs time to pick up the speed and improve disposal.

Amon for Atley would be solid for me.

Agree. I think Ollie Wines and SPP have increased all of our expectations on first year players. In years gone by, most new recruits didn't expect to play in the first 2 years let alone hold a regular spot.

We're not playing Atley because of his disposal. We're playing him because he's able to go through the midfield and give SPP and Wines a rest during the hard slog months of July and August. Amon can't do that.

A fit and firing Wines + SPP in finals >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> a few extra games into Amon who knows what is expected of him anyway. Karl should come in, but after the Showdown so those two can get the maximum rest from being battered and bruised all game. Collingwood, Bulldogs, Gold Coast is a nice run in for him to get up to speed.

He can't do that directly, but he can release Polec to do that.

You want to expose Polec to the same scenario?

Personally, I'd rather get experience into Atley while resting all our stars from doing so much heavy lifting and get them cherry ripe for a finals assault. It wasn't coincidence that the Dogs did so well last year because they had the freshest players who were coming back from injury and weren't battered and bruised like everyone else was.

In September, sure, put Amon in Atley's spot and do what you say with Polec. But there's a reason why Sydney is storming home with a wet sail, and it's because they have a side that has a lot of big bodied mids who are now not getting exposed for speed like they were in the opening rounds.

If we're going to play those campaigners - and there's a good chance we will since they might be in the GF - you need all your big bodied mids fresh and up to the challenge so we can expose them on the outside.

Not saying we can't play Amon, it's just not something I'd do cause I'm thinking a) long term and b) how it affects the entire side.

I agree with you

Plus we can keep them on the ground more by playing them forward where they are both good overhead.

Spot on. I enjoyed Atley helping with the clearances on the weekend, made it impossible for the Kangas. I've said in the past I'm Amon-blind, that I cannot understand why people rate him, but even so if Atley goes it has to be for another player who can extract the ball from in tight.

Tyson and Watts 100% in. Viney probable at this stage. Jones and Salem another week away.
Serves Bernie right the careless idiot. Pull ya head in Bern!!

Surely Atley having such low TOG puts a bit more load on the entire side?

Why wouldn't you use Ah Chee in that capacity as he can play more minutes in that role? Even Young who generally kills it in the SANFL midfield when out there.

I think Atley came in as we wanted a look at him and to give him a taste but mainly also due to injuries. Now Amon is back I think he has to come in.

Is Impey improving? I'm a little disappointed that he isn't in games long enough and polished enough to finish off his work. I have believed that there is more upside to his game but he doesn't look like he's developed his game enough since the beginning of the year.

He's our Will Hoskin-Elliott, with a fondness for tackling.
