“We have a great opportunity to take on North Melbourne and we might even have a few players returning from injuries, so we will be going down to have a red hot crack,” May added.

It's time we stood up and backed up our interstate heroics so bring this the f*** on!

McKenzie out before Levi. One good kick doesn't equal a good game. Massive over reaction to one good kick.

I simply don't get this "drop McKenzie" rubbish. He's a kid who's been more than servicable when he's played. We know all there is to know about Levi. He's tries his guts out, but lacks polish. McKenzie will be a 150+ game player for the club and we need to put games into him. Not to mention that he's been playing in the backline whilst Levi is a midfielder. One will not be dropped for the other.

I wouldn't be against wells coming back through the twos his form this year has been average at best. While that may have something to do with him playing injured, there have been a number of passages this year where he has simply lacked desire

And the winner for worst post of the week goes to you sir!

We really would do well to have one of our 2013 first quarters where we smash the living daylights out of the opposition. Then switch to our 2014 game plan and strangle them for a big win.

Really time to put the foot down at home and have a decent attacking effort at Etihad, which we know we are capable of.

Hope that "outlasting" Gold Coast isn't the plan this time. ;)

McKenzie isn't up to AFL standard in many areas of the game at this stage. And he isn't the fittest kid in the side, which means that playing 20 minutes isn't enough for him, and needs a full game in the VFL.

Agree - someting like the Saints game last year.

9.7 - 61 V 1.0 -6

Time to enjoy a game for 3 quarters. Hard work watching these close games.

Maybe...... but i was pondering the opposite last night.

We play tough accountable defensive football for 3 quarters, then let rip in the last hoping our fitness and run and dash football for one quarter will be enough to win well.

I am not sure I can last the season if we do that. ;)

appears to some posters that a stirring come from behind victory v last yrs Grand Finalists on their home turf
has somehow become evidence of our lack of skill and a dysfunctional fwd line
WTF
why is it that the swans or freo played bad
we Forced the Errors
They Panicked

On that basis I think there is a very good argument for leaving Nahas in
Swallow personally I wld leave out as he will be tempted to show the brother up and probably overdo it
same with wells
good team good win

watched GC v GWS
bruise free footy all show boating
look fwd to Maj standing on their heads this week

FOR NORTH Melbourne to seriously challenge the competition's best teams this season it needs to bring its A-game every week, vice-captain Jack Ziebell says.

At their best in 2014, the Roos have looked the top-four contender that some commentators predicted, with their wins over Port Adelaide, the Sydney Swans at the SCG and Fremantle at Patersons Stadium outstanding.

But after beating the Swans in Sydney for the first time in 10 years in round four, North was smashed by Collingwood six days later. Along with an equally uninspiring loss to Essendon in round one, it raised the question: is North a contender or a pretender?

Ziebell spoke with AFL.com.au on Monday at Arden Street, where the mood among the North players was buoyant after their 13-point win over the Dockers.

The vice-captain said beating Freo in Perth for the first time in seven years had been fantastic for North's self-belief, but acknowledged the Roos still had "a lot to prove".

"If you don't bring your A-game, anyone can beat you and that's happened to us a couple of times this year," Ziebell said.

"Obviously you go out there and try to win games every week, but sometimes you don't put it all together that well and that's the frustrating part about football.

"But the good sides can put it together every week, so that's our major role now: to try and figure out how we can put it together week in, week out for the rest of the year.

"If we can do that, we'll be a hard side to play against."

After six rounds, North sits fifth on the ladder with a 4-2 record.

It has done so without its skipper Andrew Swallow, who played in the VFL on Sunday to mark his first game since rupturing his left Achilles tendon last season, while Ziebell missed rounds three to five with a shoulder injury and stars Daniel Wells (foot) and Scott Thompson (suspension) missed last Friday night's game.

Ziebell said North's ability to cover for absent stars showed its growing depth, with players like Levi Greenwood and Ben Jacobs coming in to play important midfield roles and key defender Joel Tippett helping to cover Thompson's absence against Freo.

"The depth of our side has been tested and I think it's responded really well," Ziebell said.

Ziebell expected Swallow would be pushing to return for this Sunday's clash with Gold Coast at Etihad Stadium after he had 23 disposals in about 50 per cent game for North Ballarat.

"He got through unscathed on the weekend and I think he played pretty well, so that's not bad for a bloke who's had nine months off," Ziebell said.

"He'll just start to get really hungry now to get back in the senior side and I think he'll be pushing the coaches this week.

"But we'll see how he goes. Hopefully he'll play sooner rather than later."

If I see a call for Gibson to be dropped in this thread I am seriously gonna lose my shit.

He was so so SO good last night.

14 of his 31 possies in the final quarter.
Was immense. Is best 22.

I'm not subscribing to the "rush Swallow back" idea.

I hate when a 'champion' player is rushed back after a major injury and then does something else that keeps him out longer than if he'd played another 2 games in the 2s.

We're doing fine without him, let him get some match fitness in the ressies, hell he hasn't even played 4 quarters yet.

Any reason to think Wells wont be available? I thought Scott said it was just soreness, nothing structural at all. By the time we play he'd of had 2 weeks, should be fit and if so he has to come in.

Agree with others we want Swallow back and getting up to AFL pace asap, closed roof at the dome is probably as good as any to get him back. But imo he must be match ready, which means being able to run out the game. Not sure where he's at in that regard.

Spot on JZ ^, we've proven we're capable of beating anyone over the last few years, but lack the consistent high level performance. Bringing the intensity every week is a must, without that platform to work from getting the 'game to click' consistently will be virtually impossible. We only need look at all the upsets so far this year, if you're not on then you'll get done. The top 4 sides are capable and obviously bringing that consistency of a mature, aggressive, well prepared and ruthless performance week after week.

Everything you have written has been lost in my confusion....is this a poem or song or something?

Anyone remember how Roughead came back? Was it through the magoos? How long wasnhe out for total?

Just wondering how it compares to Skipper.

My first thought is to keep swallow in the 2's but then I remember how much of a gun he is and I want to get him back in to give us the best chance of winning!

Greenwood on shaky ground you'd think.

Could get the job on Ablett, l would not discount it. He is perfectly suited to this role.

Personally Basti has not done anything to impress me this year. He is getting some numbers but gee he looks slow & his normal good hands aren't there he has fumbled so often. If Swallow comes in l would go this way, but l cant see them playing Swallow on 70 minutes of footy even in the vest.
