Alright. I’ve had some time to think. This week we go back to our best and beat hawks by 10 goals. It’s settled.

After the last 6 weeks I was sure we had pulled the high press back and yet no, there it was again. Crowded forward line, easy rebounds down the ground and cheap goals.

The players have to provide a contest, bugger what Ken says, that's simple personal motivation. Burgoyne's effort on Dempsey in the clip was symptomatic, some of the standing around and watching while Dangerfield went like a train at the ball was embarrassing - Rozee, Drew, Butters, looking at you.
Why the high press again, why Allir on Cameron drawing him out , a classic tactic from yesteryear for breaking down our defence, why McEntee with Stewart withdrawal , why such poor effort from so many , why JHF starting on bench , why Sweet dominating but tapping to wrong areas -wheres the instruction to correct it quickly, so many whys.

Who would you play on chol then? Bergman, BZT and alir have to take chol, dear and Gunston. For mine it's Bergman on chol, BZT on dear and alir on Gunston
I agree with those matchups, Chol can often be lazy and hang at the back of the pack trying to take the big mark and Bergman could exploit that, BZT has done some good blanket jobs in the past so should get Dear who is probably already the hawks most dangerous tall forward, and Aliir should get Gunston who is way past his best but he can still score multiple goals from just a hand full of touches.

Regardless of how the defensive match ups pan out though it won't matter at all if our much vaunted midfield don't turn up to play again, plus the hawk's ruckman Meek is a man mountain so if there is any doubt about Sweet's fitness imo he must have a genuine ruck as a back up, not part timers like Dixon and Ratugolea.

Why does Buckley keep saying that hawthorn should’ve won last time they played us, why? We beat them fair and squarely didn’t we, I can’t recall anything controversial other than hawthorn running out of gas and us finishing the game really strong. We actually led most statistical categories that game and I do recall hawthorn getting a pretty good ride from the umps to get them going in the first half and we had 6 more scoring shots but apparently we didn’t deserve it?

And why is Riewoldt like a kid in a candy store thinking out loud about us getting smashed by hawthorn. He may be right but seemed a bit unprofessional. Why does he hate port anyway? We are literally the most inoffensive team going around that literally hasn’t inflicted pain on anyone, yet you see all these media identities like Riewoldt, Lyon, King etc barracking for us to lose. I don’t get it.

Who cares why? We need that **** you attitude.

Yea absolutely.

I don’t understand why we don’t have any tactical answers.

Scott tells the media before the game exactly what will happen. Seems our only answer is we need to pressure more and go harder.

Why were our coaches and players so under prepared?

Why were there such obvious tactical blunders?

Ken always just goes his way, and hopes it works, he’s always done it.

Rozee was useless in the middle on Thursday; put him at half-back, replacing that Houston/Farrell drive we’re missing. Just have Boak, Butters, JHF, Wines, Drew, and Mead through the middle.

DBJ moves back to forward

Drew tags Newcombe

Esava as forward/ruck while Marshall replaces Dixon

Should of debuted Lorenz earlier it’s too late now so Sinn for one of McEnte/F Evans

Boak is finished.

You forgot about chol

They won’t change anything because they think it was just an aberration and will go back to the same same

I remember being at the hawks game and thinking we can’t get our hands on the ball they destroyed us.. it was as bad as we had played for a long while. We had no answers.

this time they won’t let up..

As someone has said it will be like the giants game last year.

I'm going Jones to Chol to match the pace and athleticism because you can't have Jones on Moore.

Put jones in the forward line to tag sicily.

watching him on firday night in the first half, he was exceptional.

Theres a few guys like Dixon , Francis Evan’s etc that this could be there last game for us…if they really want to help us out I have a list of players they could pole axe in the first quarter …it’s our best chance.

It's very easy to understand I've been saying it for 7 years plus, hinkly is not a coach he is a player manager.
That's putting it nicely!
To say it in a bad way we are being coached by an inept, ignorant, arrogant fraudulent man
This club has been r*ped mercilessly by people who are in it for themselves, the balance of imput has been taken from the supporters and controlled by despicable people who don't like losing control regardless of what they destroy.

You most definitely did beat us fair and square, but with 10 seconds left on the clock, Meek simply only needed to tap the ball to his feet to cause another stoppage for us to win.

Instead he decided to try to clear the stoppage and ultimately allowed your mids to take the ball forward. It was just a massive brain fart from a young team.

More simply, being so far ahead at the last break(teams shouldn’t lose from that position) we handed the game to you on a platter in the last quarter.

That loss did make our season though, as it was a very hard lesson to learn.

A point was made over on our freo board about how you guys came over to Perth two weeks ago for essentially a dead rubber game from your point of view (or certainly one you did not desperately need to win) and proceeded to play with a pressure rating over 200 for the entire game, players ferociously flinging themselves into every contest as if their lives and careers were on the line. We didn’t play a higher pressure team all season. I was certain port were going to go deep in finals after that game. But untimaltely the freo game didn’t really matter to port?

Then last Friday you were the complete opposite. Flat footed, off the pace, minimal pressure in a game that was 100 times more important than the one v freo.

We were not good enough by the way so it nothing to do with us.

But how do you guys reconcile those two contrasting efforts?

GWS did the opposite. Played at 90% intensity v the Dogs in R24 but they were so primed yesterday (granted they still didn’t win).

This is what I’ve been struggling to reconcile with since Thursday, the contrast in effort and intensity from the showdown and freo game to the QF is baffling.

I can handle losing when the effort and intensity is at 100% but I just can’t handle losing when we aren’t having a red hot crack.

The effort and intensity were through the roof in the 2 games prior to finals, the complete opposite to last year and had even the negative supporters starting to ponder that this year might be different. But it all completely deserted us on Thursday night.

Would love to know why, but it’s a question none of us have the answer to I don’t think. Those inside the 4 walls hopefully have some idea, it’s not like it hasn’t happened before but that was the most insipid effort I’ve ever witnessed live. Even the 2021 prelim we did show a little bit of fight after half time although fleeting but this one was a football equivalent of sally robbins.

You are spot on. Port goes to pieces when the whole world is watching us against a top victorian side. We were totally unable to be mentally ready for the game against Geelong. History says we will lose this week too because we beat them in the most recent minor game. Reverse results have been happening for Port since 2014. There seems to be a mental problem plus lack of strategy with Port in finals. Coaching plus poor leadership may contribute.
