It’s very bad management. Always a real risk that his form would not justify selection this year, but they tied their own hands anyway.
Melbourne had the sense and courage to start dropping Nathan Jones when he deserved it. Held in very high esteem at the dees.
It's not quite the same scenario because of squad development reasons and was not a current captain but I thought it showed maturity and leadership within Melbourne FC generally.

There's ways of being critical without referring to our players with out resorting to words like "garbage", "sh*t" "rubbish" etc which some on here are prone to do.

Yeah that's true, but if that was the only issue then I wouldn't have any problem with it.

My issue with them comes from seeing some of the more prominent members of that group giving the players a standing ovation after they've been thrashed.

That's why I left the group and I refer to them as sycophants.

And average experience. After all, it makes sense we rushed Milera and Dawson back alongside holding on for dear life with Sloane seeing even with them, we had a side who didn't average 60 games on the weekend. An area of experience where beltings become very frequent.

We were probably lucky Fremantle was similarly inexperienced.

Had a touch of the Chris Judds about it.

Just a weird one. What's he doing grappling around like that?

We'll appeal because of who it is. Need to save face. He'll get his one week regardless. Minor but a poor look.
Is there footage?

Just throw the Joel Selwood one up as your defence, and 'nothing to see here'.

You do realise McAsey has been training with the defenders again this pre-season, played in defence in SANFL trial game on the weekend and in all the match sims apparently....It looks like the McAsey forward experiment has rightly been binned.

If we wanted to go left field (we won't) Worrell is the better option anyway, far more athletic, quicker and way more X factor.
I did not realise that no, thanks for the heads up. I'd love to see Worrell get a go sooner rather than later also. But we need to see McAsey on the main stage for a consistent run. Otherwise I can just see him leaving, us getting unders as he hasn't impressed, and then going well for opposition.
Just reading the trial match report, again, I'd be more than happy to see both pedlar and gollant get a run this week. :)

"Sloane says he had a retinal detachment that could've been career-ending if it detached any further, was "super close" to career being over.

"For me, there's no way in the world I would potentially go after anyone's eyes because I'm well aware of the damage that can cause."

After watching the recent trial I agree. I'm really surprised they haven't at least experimented with him going forward. We could use his mobility down there. Worrell has that quick burst of speed off a step that we seem to lack. We also know he's decent in the air as an interceptor. Could that translate to taking marks inside 50? Not sure. Worth a try though.

Josh Worrel was switched from playing defence mostly for the Sandringham Dragons in the NAB League to playing Key Forward for Vic Metro at the U18's Championship and wound up VM's leading goalkicker for the Championships.....McAsey Vic Metro's M.V.P. playing Key Defence.

I didn't mind Sloane copping a week but after seeing this AFL justification, they can seriously get ****ed.

Sloane is the only player in AFL history that had their hands in the vicinity of someone's eye and that should be an instant ban? Just **** right off with that

Also does the AFL have it in for Sloane? They banned him a few years back for making Brad Ebert's head bleed from an accidental spoil when no one in the history of the game has been banned for that previously, and now they're getting him for an "intentional" eye gouge.

Disgusting stuff, Sloane is far from a dirty player

I'd say in general the AFL lost their minds with some of the suspensions this week.

Thought the Robinson one was silly too. He kept his position and braced for impact and being punished cause he's a hard nut and his opponent is made of glass. Unfortunate someone got hurt, but that can happen in contact sports.

Duursma didn't even get seriously hurt though, he might play this week

And yet Sam Draper only got fined for a pretty deliberate gut punch.

Injury list as of Tuesday, March 22

Rory Laird (hand) test
Andrew McPherson (hamstring) 1-2 weeks
Paul Seedsman (concussion) ongoing

McAdam available
I thought Laird was going to be out for about a month?

Quicker than expected recovery...

Compare how Sloane is tested compared to Selwood & you know the bias of the VAFL.

The only consistency is that the Victorian teams are treated differently.

Laird broke his right hand in the Community Series game against Port Adelaide on March 5 but avoided surgery and has been training strongly since.

“Rory has been running really well, obviously one of the advantages of a hand injury is you can still run so he’s pushing for selection this week,” Burgess said.

“He will do most of training on Wednesday and if he gets through that unscathed then he will be available this week, and if not this week, then certainly back for Round Three.”
