John ralph is a fxxkn smarmy little c..t..

What an absolute joke this league is.

Theres no way mcadams was worse than picketts hit..

Pickett jumped two *n feet off the ground and connected straight with the head.

Seriously considering following NRL again and giving up on the AFL.. the inconsistencies, media driven bias and favouritism is just disgusting.

And with Pickett - the ball wasn’t even in the frame when he made contact. At least Wehr actually had the footy

The AFL was always going to do this. It's what they do
Making an example of us? Always. Remember the $50K fine for the masks down on the plane, yet Port and the Dogs got off scot-free? I wouldn't have an issue if it was a 1-2 week suspension, but the fact it's being deemed more serious than Pickett is the joke. They are not punishing the outcome, because Wehr was winded for about 20 seconds longer than Smith, and they sure as **** aren't punishing the action (or they could be, because Christian is as dumb as dog shit).

The only upside of this is it’s another opportunity for our lawyers to humiliate that corrupt POS Michael Christian in front of a national audience like we did with the Mackay suspension.
Lets hope we do take it as far as we can...as a club i'd live with a 2 week suspension..or if they gave pickett 4 weeks i'd accept a 3 week ban as it would be consistent..not this

They are incompetent and corrupt, so deliver incompetent and corrupt outcomes.

Yep. Absolutely no surprises here. The VFL doing what the VFL do.
Who wants to bet they got together today and said "we need to make a statement about these hits. Hey we haven't charged McAdam yet.Let's use him!"

It's a disgrace.

VAFL is a ****ing joke...

Crow Shane McAdam sent straight to tribunal for brutal bump

Shane McAdam is set for a holiday after his hit in round one. See how the match review officer graded the bump.

Adelaide forward Shane McAdam could be banned for at least three matches as the AFL ramps up its policing of head high hits.
While Melbourne’s Kysaiah Pickett received two-weeks for his high-hit on star Bulldog Bailey Smith because GWS’ Jacob Wehr had a concussion test the league upgraded the the charges levelled at McAdam to severe impact.

McAdam was sent straight to the Tribunal after the AFL classed his hit on Wehr as careless conduct, severe impact and high contact.

He will face the Tribunal on Tuesday night where he could receive a minimum three match suspension - which would rule him out of games against Richmond, Port Adelaide and Fremantle.

McAdam caught Wehr with a bump late on in the third quarter of the Crows loss to GWS at Giants Stadium on Sunday.

He was reported on the spot and Wehr had to leave the ground for a head impact assessment.

After the match McAdam’s teammate Josh Rachele told News Corp that he thought it wasn’t on the same level as Pickett’s hit on Smith on Saturday night.

We looked back on it, he definitely got his chest but might have got some head high contact,” he said.

“So we will just see what the review says because looking back on Kozzie Pickett’s one the other night that looked a lot worse and that only got two weeks.”

But the AFL has used Wehr actually going off for a concussion test to determine that McAdam’s potential to cause injury should carry an impact grading of severe.

While both of Pickett’s feet were clearly off the ground when he hit Smith, his actual impact grading was low because the Bulldog was not injured in the incident and he quickly returned to the game.

But the AFL still levelled him with an impact grading of high because of the nature of the act increasing the severity of the charge.

In contrast McAdam’s actual impact grading was initially medium because Wehr did go off for a head injury assessment.

Wehr was cleared of any concussion and returned to the game but the AFL elevated McAdam’s impact from medium to severe because of the nature of the act.

The AFL elevated the gradings twice for both players given the capacity to cause serious injury — for McAdam from medium to severe and Pickett from low to high.

It is an unprecedented use of the capacity to cause serious injury clause by the AFL but an indication of their intent to protect the head.

On Monday McAdam’s forward coach at the Crows James Rahilly said the high-flying forward would have to strike a balance on the field.

“He does play the game on the edge at times,” he said.

“I think they are told not to leave the ground. With Shane we don’t want him to not play on the edge but he does need to be careful.”

They look at 3 things...
Conduct - Intentional, or Careless
Impact - Severe, High, Medium, or Low
Contact - High/Groin, or body

Kosi's was graded as High impact, because of the "potential to cause injury". Given that the AFL is currently facing multiple lawsuits, from players whose lives have been ruined by repeated concussions, there's every likelihood that this is the standard which will be adopted more & more often going forward.

Once those gradings are done, it's just a matter of looking up the outcome in the table (refer to page 8 of the 2023 AFL Tribunal Guidelines).

Kosi's may have looked worse, but it's hard to see where McAdam's hit will be graded any differently... and thus the same result is expected.
You forgot the VFL

Crow says monster hit ‘not as bad as Kozzie’s’

- Simeon Thomas-Wilson

Adelaide young gun Josh Rachele says teammate Shane McAdam’s bump on GWS youngster Jacob Wehr wasn’t on the same level that has led to Kysaiah Pickett copping a two-match ban..

McAdam levelled a huge bump on Wehr as he was gathering possession late in the third term.

While he didn’t leave the ground, McAdam went right through Wehr, who was sent for a Head Impact Assessment, and was reported on the spot.

Rachele told News Corp on Sunday that he thought it was “touch and go” after watching it back.

“We looked back on it, he definitely got his chest, but might have got some head-high contact,” he said.

“So we will just see what the review says, because looking back on Kozzie Pickett’s one the other night, that looked a lot worse and that only got two weeks.

“It will be touch and go, I reckon, but if he does miss we have some great depth that can step up.”

Post-game Crows coach Matthew Nicks said he needed to see more vision of the incident before offering a view.

“I saw it live so I only got one look at it, and I haven’t seen the replay, so it’s a hard one to make comment on,” Nicks said.

Giants coach Adam Kingsley said he didn’t think it was a “huge issue”.

“I sort of missed it at the time. The only thing I can see is we missed Wehry for 15 minutes, fortunately he was able to come back on without concussion, so we were lucky in that sense,” Kingsley said.

Former Crows captain Rory Sloane might also come under the microscope after he was involved in a bump that left Giants defender Lachie Whitfield concussed.

Sloane was involved in another incident in which GWS star Josh Kelly left the game due to concussion, when the Giants gun was sandwiched by the Crows veteran and ruckman Reilly O’Brien.

IMHO McAdam smashed Wehr with a legal bump to the torso, probably the most brutal one we've seen since Liam Ryan levelled out Braydon Maynard in the 2018 Grannie. The two hits are slightly different (McAdam's slightly higher and Wehrs arms are down, Ryan's slightly lower and Maynard has his arms up.) but I don't believe McAdam made contact with the head other than the resulting whiplash.

Wehr's testimony and that of the GWS Club Doctor will be interesting to understand whether he was severely winded, and did Wehr complain of any head trauma at all? Because he passed his concussion test and played on in the last quarter unhindered.

Grading table - thanks Vader
Conduct - Intentional, or Careless
Impact - Severe, High, Medium, or Low
Contact - High/Groin, or body

Grading is: Careless, Severe and High.
Which part of this do the Crows lawyers try to pull apart?
Get the Impact downgraded to Medium/High on the basis that Wehr played on?
Get the Contact downgraded to Body on the basis that Wehr was winded, not concussed?

Even David King, who has been really hard on the AFL with regards to head knocks, is just flabbergasted by this.

You can’t grade one incident as severe just because the player had a concussion test (which he passed), while the other player didn’t have a test (which he should have if the AFL are actually serious about head high knocks).
