In recent weeks young Harry Schoenberg has been effectively playing that close checking, negating role for us in the middle while also getting a bit of the ball himself. The high accumulating Matt Crouch has come in to complement another high accumulator in Laird who is regaining form after some injury issues. They are getting the ball out to the likes of Dawson (who can also win his own ball), now wing-man Smith, rebounding half backs Milera and your surprise gift package to us, the, for many of us unexpected, emerging star in Hinge, amongst others. This reconfiguration of our midfield is largely, I believe, behind our taking another, much needed, step up in terms of performance over the past few weeks. So while Cowboy Neale and the likes of Laird and Crouch and even Keays may go head to head at times, I would not be surprised to see Harry Schoenberg standing Neale for fairly good chunks of time and negating some of his effectiveness.
Yep keays has been pushed out of midfield recently and it’s been better for the side

You’d think we would stick with Keays forward and continue to give Schoenberg the minutes which is good for the now but also for next year

It was a really odd one last week - McAdam was dangerous and nailed was it 3 goals and provided a presence, but on the flipside, mac andrew who was his man for a good portion was everywhere and setting up plenty of play for them and chopping out forward entries of ours

I thought Andrew was really good - but his man still punished him on the scoreboard
Sort of tells us what I’ve been saying for quite a while , opposition teams see McAdam as a marking target I50

Andrew , May have both spent plenty of time on him in last 3 weeks

It’s good for us as McAdam has other strings to his bow and it also frees up one of our key forwards

The mental gymnastics people go through to keep some triers with no skill in the side is frustrating, can't be long before we hear that Keays and Murphy keep their opponents boundary side
Can you please do some mental gymnastics to help me understand how Keays is just a 'trier with no skill'? He's played most of the season at half forward in the highest scoring team for the season and averages 20 disposals at 70% DE, kicked 19.17 (36 shots on goal), ave. 6 score involvements, 14 goal assists (so has contributed 33 goals for the season), ave. 1 tackle inside 50, ave. 3 inside 50s and 3 clearances. He has almost identical stats to Zac Bailey, who plays a similar position and I'm sure none of you would question if it were his name instead of Keays.

Keays is putting together an elite season for a half forward and yet he still gets labelled a 'trier with no skill'?! I could understand the argument when he played as a pure mid, but half forward is absolutely his spot and he's damn good at it. What team is turning down a half forward (sometimes known as the graveyard position) that averages 20 touches, 1 goal and 1 GA per game?

Does he “average 20 touches at half forward”.. or is it that he has averaged 20 touches a game this year?..

Theres a massive difference considering he’s played about half the year at HF and half in the midfield as his time in the midfield would overinflate that figure..

Where did you get the averages “20 touches a game” figure from?

How many of those “1 goals a game” that he’s got have been joe the goose ones from the vicintiy of the goal square?

Ben is elite at one thing.. running hard.. its simply laughable to even suggest he’s elite at anything else as he is poosible the worst skilled and poorest decision making player in the comp. You can put as many stats up as you like but simply watching the game will tell you that.

Like Douglas and Mackay before them.

Dougie the best footballer out of the four though.

People need to stop quoting disposal efficiency stats as gospel for a player having good disposal or not.

Jake Kelly had a good DE because he always chipped it backwards/sideways or long to a contest. It didn't make him a good disposer of the ball.

We know players like Keays are awful kicks of the football. I don't care how high his DE is - he is one of the worst butchers we have had. He is still a decent player, no argument from me. He still has a place in our team for now and long term if he can reduce his horrific turnovers.

You'd have to think Rankine has the full 3 weeks off .....he's done the hammy twice, so rushing him back would be a huge risk

Every other hammy is taking 3 weeks .....and they didn't look as bad as Rankines

It was only 3 weeks back and he was dropped and that wouldn’t be just after one bad game.

Same thing happens every year with Murphy, cumulative bad games see him dropped, only to return, plays a decent game, carries him through his next bad patch.
Still shown better form recently than Rachele if we are looking at pure form

Trying to do a team now is difficult if all of them are playing B's. Short in the backlin as our defenders are all now in the A's. One of them will have to play A's to make up a team.

Keays has a season kick efficiency of 56% (below average) compared to Bailey at 64% (above average) which certainly matches up with most people's views on both players
You’re cherry picking that to suit your argument, despite what the rest tells you, seriously?
