On 5AA interview he basically said he doesn't think he will be playing SANFL at all next year. When asked about his role in the team and about potentially playing SANFL next year he said that he understands these discussions will come when you get to a certain age and if your form drops, but he doesn't expect that to happen for the next 'few years'. So basically he expects to be in the AFL side every week next year and then even the year after...
THE NEXT FEW YEARS? o_O NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Magor has talent, absolutely - but Cook has absolute IT factor. Just a question about whether he finds a role that can maximise that.

Personally, I don't think he's a wingman but I don't know what role is available for him other than that in our side.

Where do you think he is best suited? Seems a little to outside to be a centre mid or half back

Half forward when Pedlar moves into the middle next year

Yes Butts is a lot better but Butts isn't that good. I prefer Murray and Keane. Coincidentally this is who I said we should play from around round 1 this year but it took an injury for Nicks to play Keane. Wouldn't it be good if Nicks could get it right without injuries.

Didn’t Keane miss most of pre season or have I got that wrong. Felt like he only came in 6 weeks before the season and obviously hadn’t played for several years?

We need an intervention

FFS - there's no senior guys. Full stop.

We still need SOME leadership out there. It's ridiculous the amount of whinging there still is about this. Sloane has been moved into a more minor role and we have kids on every line.

People who want to complain about this are just looking for stuff to complain about.
No, when that leader is now a hinderance on the field then no amount of leadership makes up for that. His form sucks and he will only get worse.

You then say there’s no role for Cook, see the irony?

Just the message it sends too.

"Sorry young guy, you've been dropped because of poor form....no, that doesn't apply to Rory, he gets his own set of rules when it comes to selection".

How good is a "leader" who can't even be honest with himself about his own form?

Yep, the whole leadership thing is bullshit. Leaders don’t grab a player like Daicos giving up a 50 and costing a crucial goal, all because he panicked because he couldn’t keep up.

He signed in late January

He basically took a spot vacated by McAsey who went home early in the off season in 2022 and told the club at the end of the year, or start of 2023 he wasn't coming back

So today is Sloane day, does he keep his spot with Rankine returning and Rachelle needing a game? Having re-signed him will Nicks try and save face and pick him despite being worst on ground?
You know the answer. Their isn't a chance in hell that Sloane is dropped. We need his leadership. That leadership will require more running from our other players.

Gotta say … incredible signing . Literally best case result

Hope he gets through a full pre season unscathed

Controversial call: could Gollant be the defender we are looking for? Has the athletic traits, good in the air, decent size…
Why turn an AFL quality forward into a defender? I’ve never understood it.

Collingwood back to realising what a good forward Howe is.

And please spare me the responses: well if Gollant is AFL quality - why is he not in the senior side. Just look at Worrell and Nank. Plus the fact we are the highest scoring team in the AFL - ie tough to break into the best forward line in the comp.

There is no room for him in our forward line right now. So my thinking is that AFL quality forward might be better served actually playing in the AFL. Rather than rotting in the SANFL. Also, our defence is decimated. Time for thinking outside the box a little. It’s not like moving a forward into defence hasn’t worked wonders before either. History is littered with inspired moves that have transformed careers.

Anyway, he’ll be rotting in the SANFL this weekend. So what would I know.

And, also, Howe has had a superb career in the backline. Superb.

Sloane has reached "that certain age" and his form has dropped.
His lack of self-awareness is bad news for the playing group.

We have plenty of leadership in Slownes part of the ground - Laird, Crouch and Dawson (the actual captain).

Now if Slowne was a defender AND performing well I'd concede your point but midfield is certainly not the area of the ground we are lacking for leadership.

A player still needs to perform well, they shouldn't just be selected because of 'experience' and 'leadership'.

Unfortunately this has been our clubs mantra for too long and the results are plain to see.

Nicks has embraced this mantra, he wouldn't have got the job otherwise.

I actually think we can cover Hinge, as good as he's been

Worrell, Keane, Max, Nank all have the ability to intercept

Milera and Smith rebound

Of course if he was to come up fit that would be fine too

You probably rate them higher as they were part of a super successful era but rebuilding Brisbane had Birchall and Hodge running around until 34-35 and they had similar or more experienced players within their squad

Melbourne had Jordan Lewis running around even though they had a lot more experience players in their squad when he was 34

They obviously recruited those guys in for peanuts and I agree - it’s a bit different as they had been a part of great success. It does illustrate though that clubs crave experience in the group and even with Sloane on the list our list is still very thin on 100 gamers

I put something up the other week that the Lions are running around with about 14 blokes with 150 games plus in their team each week - as did the Cats last year to win the flag.

From memory Port, Collingwood and Melbourne are all double digits in 150 gamers playing week in week out.

Not saying Sloane is the answer - I wouldn’t have signed him - but I get all teams, without exception, want as much experience in the squad as they can get and we obviously value Sloane for that

Because playing AFL>>>>>>>SANFL when it comes to retention and keeping the lad focused. Apart from that he played a defensive role half back/wing/outside mid for the Calder Cannons/St.Betnards/PEGS.

Lachie also has strong ties to the Roos through his great uncle (North Melbourne Captain Vic Lawrence) and his father who suited up for the Roos at U19's, who knows maybe they'll come calling if he continues to show plenty on the SANFL
