It was working well when Sloane would start quarters on the bench, bit of time half forward/wing, then come into the middle more often for Q4

Disappointing we've gone away from this

I'd even consider him as sub for the odd game. Keeps him fresh and he can enter games when others are tiring
Our coaches got sucked in by the Hawthorn game.

Re: the Rankine farce which has made him available this week. Lucky; he's needed.

I don't know where else to put this but one tackle:
--- got Jonas a free kick for htb against Melbourne, and
--- also got him suspended for a game!:eek:
Wtaf?
How is that possible?
The Umpire, on the field, at the time, rewarded the tackle with a free to Jonas.
The MRO, not on the field, with the luxury of slo-mo and several angles, punished the tackle with a one-week suspension (and by deduction has slammed the Umpire for their decision).
It's farcical, but we all knew that after the MRO ruined McAdam's season.

We've rested Tex. Sloane is the same age and plays in a more physically intense role.

IMO he should have been rested twice already

Come in peace.

Huge match for both clubs. I think it's 50/50. Younger teams on the rise often have bigger downs away from home but bounce back at home. Add to that getting back some key players and crows will be hard to beat - i watch you guys quite a bit as father in law supports the crows. Richmond was the outlier but other than that you've been very good at home. Success is becoming self-fulfilling as the crowds pack in at Adelaide Oval.

Walker should be fresh and a big test. I suspect Andrews gets him as he tends to roam up the ground and Andrews has a big tank.
Suspect Payne to Thilthorpe assuming he plays, Lester to Fogarty.
Starcevich has played well on Rankine v Gold Coast but he has gone to another level at the crows.

Daniher is in rare form, suspect Butts gets him? Cameron the other obvious big threat. He has copped some very close attention the last 2 weeks. McGrath beat him well, Lemmens probably drew with him. It's been notable though that since he hit good form he has had a very close-checking role and i'd suspect the crows will do the same? Pace matters with Charlie but mobility more important. Can't get someone who falls over at all or gets baulked.

Mid battle should be interesting - Sloane been good but i note he might be a bit weary. Keays could be a tagging job on Neale? He has lifted the last fortnight and vulnerable to a tag. Dunkley might do his soft tag thing on Dawson given how good he has been. Our mids had a great game v Suns, the one player who has struggled a lot more on the road is Ashcroft so interesting to see how he goes.

Last year's game Crows looked great until we tagged Dawson. You have got a lot better since then. Should be a ripping game.

Oh i have to add i don't get why oppo teams always call us the bears - always grates me as an old Fitzroy supporter but i guess it being bigfooty you will tell me to get stuffed and go back to my own board haha

OUT; Panic football that results in turnovers WB at one stage early had kicked over 4 goals from turnovers.

Hinge, Burger, Sloane who is channeling his early 22 form, Keays who is impersonating the crouch semi circle every time he gets the ball - and is too concerned with what shirt he will wear in his next instagram post.
IN; Worrell, Nankervis, Cook, Schoey

Going to be interesting to see if this was just a one off bad day at the office OR, did the dogs do their homework well and pull our gameplan apart to limit our strengths and it exposed no real plan B?

I hope it is the former

As I stated in the Keays thread, my 12 yo has better skills. Knows how to kick a footy and hit a target.
Wish I had one at the airport when I was returning them to Brissy in Jsn and saw him.
I would have yelled out this is how you kick a footy Ben.

I can't understand how professional footballers get away with it.

If I was a coach I'd be telling Ben you should be kicking a footy on your right foot 100 times a day, 5 days a week, until it's that natural you don't even think about it.

Is there another sport where physical endurance is favoured over actual skill?

My 12 yo is right footed but is just as strong on his left foot in soccer. There is YouTube footage of this in a match.
Carl Veart sign this kid. He has already told his coach he doesn't want to play for Brisbane Roar he wants to play for Adelaide United.

I think we may go this way, they will treat this as their 'Mulligan' and just go with the obvious changes you mentioned. Only other one would be TT for Berg if he is fit.

If we play poorly again this week then I can see some actual unforced changes the week after.
Yeah, TT for Berg if fit. Otherwise, anyone for Berg and 2nd ruck Murray.

I did not like Rankine's body language on the weekend. Appeared to put in half hearted efforts at times and did not play a team orientated game. Time for Titch to have a quiet word with him. I contrasted our efforts with those of Collingwood They really work for each other and celebrate the fact they share the goals around much like our 2017 side. There have also been these selfish signs from Rachelle and Keays over the year. We must get better n this area.

I dont think i saw more than a handful of entries where we lowered our eyes to our forwards against the Bullies. I did not see much leading either. Need to do better than this when we put under the pump by the opposition. We revert to the old playbook when we cannot play the game on our terms.

Why also when there is a wind do we play from behind when we are kicking into the breeze.

Well that rules out Doedee taking Cameron

Match ups on your forwards will be interesting.

Michalanney to Cameron
Doedee to Gunston
Butts to Hipwood
Murray to Daniher

A massive ask but the best match up for Charlie Cameron is probably Michaelanney.
He's calm, balanced, good at ground level and in the air.

Last week he started on a small and ended up on Lobb for a period (doing very well).

There isn't much Max hasn't done so far. Would be a great challenge and learning opportunity for him.

Hipwood will torch butts, always seems to take marks on the run which butts can't do (run). Danniher not much better match up wise. Probably the hardest match ups we've come up against for our defenders this year

Zac Bailey is the one I'm worried about. He usually has a day out against us.

This 100%. Especially the last bit. Footy 101.

Lions just had Kai Lohmann boot 7 goals in the ressies too, so he's another inclusion who could give us big headaches athletically up forward.
As yet unsigned too, be an excellent get to play the McAdam role. Kai is a highlight reel when on song, extremely good overhead for a medium forward and agility off the charts. I've heard locally he might be gettable even though the Lions see him as their ready made Linc McCarthy replacement.
