Hear me out.....
If Chapman is fit then i'd like to see him come into the side for Freddy.
Chapman goes to HB and Young pushed into a wing rotation. Allows Aish to play a tagging role or occupy any position when needed (probably his biggest asset is his versatility and playing wing all game is not utilising this).
JOM comes out some of the centre bounces (has not excelled at) to HF and can get clearances at around-the-ground stoppages (something he has been better at in recent weeks).

However, I don't like the thought of rushing Chapman back into the side. I'd like to see a few reduced minutes games in the WAFL. I'd hate for the calf injury to be an ongoing issue. I guess could still execute these changes by bringing Wilson back into the side.

Come in peace.

Was watching the highlights from the last match

Weird game! Very dour early. Dockers brutal on the counter attack. Banfield playing surely the game of his life? Frederick devastating late. Lobb kicking accurately. Bailey almost giving us a very unlikely sniff.

I thought the dockers would respond v dogs. Looked relatively on early but got worse as the game went on.

Strange to think how quickly things change. Your side looked so good last year beating Cats in Geelong (!!) and Dees at the G. Easy to say in hindsight the Dees had the wobbles but they were 10 straight and got out to a decent lead.

There were some hiccups along the way but a pretty good year.

It seems from the outside looking in that personnel changes have been hard to adjust to, and poor early form has led to some loss in confidence. Interesting to note you were only the 12th highest scoring side last year so that was always a potential issue. Lobb left as your leading goalscorer and Jackson has only picked up about half the slack. Is it as simple as Freo going with the same gameplan and being left behind?

Anyway not trying to talk from my high horse - we started the year very poorly and have leaked a lot of points so certainly not the finished product.

Yes, it certainly looks like the main issue (same gameplan, different personnel). As you correctly pointed out no one has filled the hole that Lobb left, and the same with Mundy. Added to this, we've replaced Acres with an inferior version and our other first choice wing is also missing.

The other factor seems to be the preseason training program that we took whereby we used mainly intraclub games and were mindful of injuring teammates which was great for our injury list, not so good for our contest and possibly not so good for our fitness.

Our midfield is ranked the worst of the competition , The is almost solely been caused with the absence of Mundy, his contribution cannot be underestimated.
We need a clearance beast in the mix and for my mind Erasmus needs to be in sooner rather than later.

Well apparently they are worried about being too inexperienced with Erasmus.
But you could rotate Banfield and Erasmus mid/forward.
As Banfield was drafted as a midfielder and then played forward maybe that
is an option?
Adding 2 players to the rotations instead of one.

We needed to try something against the Bulldogs. Maybe they just left them there to learn. They seem to have been learning for a bloody long time.

It’s more likely to be caused by the new midfield coach

See, what I don’t get is why you would hold back a contested beast like Ras when we are so clearly lacking in contested mettle.

Sometimes I think our match committee are trying to get themselves fired.

BB best position is as run with stopper , he played that role a bit under Ross and given his size would have being a good match with Bont
Need Aish to go to Neale this week but who stops Charlie is a big worry

Always wondered why Banfield doesn’t the job of tagging instead of Aish. He’s fast, loves a scrap- which the midfield have nothing of. There’s no brutes or hard nuts like Liberatore- who does all the dirty work for Bonts.
Brayshaw, Serong aren’t getting in hard enough, and Aish/JOM don’t do anything to help.

Going experienced, and absolutely overrating them at the same time.
JOM, Aish, Brodie should be on their last chances. But nothing will happen. It’s predictable.

Brodie has played 50 games since when was that experienced? Got dropped and earned his sport back, and still performed better than Brayshaw these past two weeks.

Thanks for your honest outside perspective.
We are tearing ourselves apart in here 😂😂😂
It's been very trying after the flash of brilliance we displayed midseason last year.

Banfield ain’t fast. Regularly has to give up on chases because he doesn’t have leg speed. I think he has a decent short burst which helps him on lead or get to the ball first but after the first 5-10metres he is done for speed.

The best run with taggers have elite endurance. Think of our own DeBoer, Crowley. Both were very endurance runners.

He does get caught with the ball a lot. He needs to be a little quicker in finding options to give off to.

Does Young have the stamina for the wing? I thought Chapman might be the better candidate, tall, fast and can leap.

Should have a go at Serong, Brodie, Aish, Erasmus as the four onballer rotation, then move Brayshaw onto a wing since hes carrying a niggle and he can at least lock down an opponents main winger and provide drive out of defence. All weaknesses fixed and its good experience for Erasmus.

Solid point. Brayshaw can come into the stoppages too.
JOM is the preferred experienced inside bull, but he’s getting thrashed one on one. It needs a change up. Introduce younger players through. Give Schulz a few bouncdowns. The midfield works better with faster, unpredictable players. Switkowski really changed that

We needed to try something against the Bulldogs. Maybe they just left them there to learn. They seem to have been learning for a bloody long time.

Against the bulldogs we actually tried a lot of combos - by my count:

Serong, O'Meara, Brayshaw (Default 1)
Serong, Brodie, Brayshaw (Default 2)
Serong, Brodie, O'Meara
Serong, Johnson, O'Meara
Brodie, Johnson, O'Meara
Brodie, Aish, Brayshaw.

Were the midfield combinations. I am sure if Switkowski was fit he would have also been in the mix. Looking at this I think we can all see why it is difficult to fit Erasmus in whilst keeping some level of stability.

Ya know what is different about all of those combinations? NOTHING.

They're all one paced (or slow if you want to be brutal) before very limited separation from the contest and are average to below average users of the ball by foot.

Switta if he comes up this weekend is a massive point of difference and i think Erasmus has to come in to provide something different again.
