Keays stays in the midfield, rotate the younger guys through. No need to bring in a negative metres gained plodder against the running Gold Coast mids.

Perhaps we will see Brown? What a pointless pick up he was, one game as a sub and his card has been stamped
I wonder about that sometimes.

I wonder if picking Brown up was more about helping the development of the younger players on the list and if he turned out ok, it's a win. Bigger bodied mid, coming from a good program, 4 years in the system to train against our existing group. Help the SANFL.

I find it hard to believe our recruiters weren't aware of his shortcomings. A quick read of the Collingwood tells you all those.

The game as a sub is a bit of head scratcher though.

If we are serious about the quality mantra then the club should definitely NOT bring in Berry until he cleans up his disposal. Our team looks so much better now that we have quality users of the ball.

So Hately, Schoenberg, Berry, Hammil all need to clean up to be considered, their other attributes do not over come burning the ball.

Consideration to Cook and Crouch this week. Nankervis and Dowling not quite ready.

Hinge and Smith back means that you can drop McHenry and possibly Murphy, as well as considering resting Sloane. However, with Laird out we might need some grunt.

Hinge in: McHenry out
Smith in: Murphy out
Crouch in: Sloane to sub (he's best in the second half)

Crouch in, awesome. Tell us you never watch footy without saying you never watch footy.

Stationary player with low to negative meters gained. May as well get Scotty Thompson out of retirement. Seriously.

Without wishing to get involved (in this thread) with the wider Is Matthew Nicks Good or Bad thinking

Is this weekends selections a mini referendum on his thought process and coaching?

Select Crouch ( which is what I think will happen but dont want) or does he angle for youth and keep Sloane one week longer?

I do think there is some merit to thinking about ladder position with the way things are panning out. Gold Coast have also shown they wont be the lightweights we always thought they were - where we could trial the kids like young David Mackay etc

Gold Coasts midfield is starting to shine and we need to at least match them.

Dawson, Sloane, Keays , Pedlar , Rachele and 1 more enough?

Or is it Sloane , Crouch, Dawson, Keays?

Surely we can't go back to Crouch.

When we drafted him Nicks and others referred to the point of difference to our other mids, his height.

Dawson playing midfield changed that, clearly Nicks had no plan on playing Dawson as a mid. Now Brown is no longer required. I just hope there were no decent rookies we missed out on.

It's a tough one.

Crouch would offer more than what Sloane did for the first three quarters but wouldn't be able to provide what Sloane did in the last.

We definitely can't play both. Too slow.

None of Schoenberg, Berry or Hately fill me with confidence (the latter should have been given a few games a month or so ago when he was in good form).

I'd like to see Murphy play on the ball with more midfield minutes for Jones and Soligo. McHenry probably then stays in with Hinge going onto a wing/HBF rotation.

Our midfield really does have a ramshackle look to it, at least until Pedlar and Rachele build their tanks and we add some class via the draft.

On form in sanfl …. Think you’d have to have Schoenberg as next cab off rank

I’m imagining him fumbling incessantly in the hot wet conditions but I still think he’s best performed sanfl mid

I’m giving Chayce 30-40% mid time and the rest of it on wing

Can’t see us winning this one though , thankfully we play west coast at home the following week

Don’t mind these ideas , bit of Murphy , plenty of Jones and Soligo

We need those sort of high energy players around the ball to disrupt their class

We find out how good Laird is this week ( hint - he’s very good and we will likely struggle )

i cannot see a place yet but I was very impressed with Cooks game on Friday night. He can still work on a few things but his run and carry and ability to break the lines was notable. He is also winning more of his own ball and he generally uses it pretty well.

I have generally liked Sholls performance this year but Cook is coming fast. He is a much improved player from 2022 and deserves a chance soon if his form keeps up

Brownlow medal night will be fun, as the only player not suspended this year will win.
Its a good point actually. Punters will stop punting (well probably not) or at least kick up a stink at having their selections ruled out over **** all.

We all know the AFL love their gambling revenue.

Great to hear, the skills were shown last year just the ability to stay involved & at times his hardness was questionable. Not exactly a surprise for a young guy without the required tank. Hopefully continues to build and gets a look at some point this year.

They are not dropping Murphy.
Berry needs to clean us his disposal yet your calling for Crouch in.

Is anyone else warming to McHenry?

I've been a critic but don't mind the bits and pieces he's put together this season
You are right Drugs He has been in good form this year the best of his career. He has been a star in the reserves and very good at Senior level. I would be playing him some time in the middle this week when some of Lairds rotations occur, but i dont think the selectors would go that way. I think he has ball winning ability in close and he can manouvre in tight spaces to get ball out to others. Good by hand and short kicks by foot.

I certainly think he played well enough not to get dropped but Smith and Hinge will both come in you would think.

Laird will get off anyway surely. Surely. Absolute bullshit suspension.
& AFL fine Neale for playing for frees.

Any competent MRO should be able to tell the difference compared to a dangerous tackle...

Who knows what they'll do really.

I have hope considering the tackle is very gentle, clubs are starting to call out the farce, supporters are getting sick of it. Just look at the comments from neutrals on this incident in particular.

Then there's the AFL and their aversion to common sense.

It's a chook raffle
