Yeah that Paddy Ryder looks to be a real player, reckon he could be the missing link we need? Wonder what it would take to get him to Port...
Nah. Hes good at hit outs to advantage and that's about it.

Ladhams would monster him around the ground.

It's a pretty good 1 wood though and could do us some damage.

It’s worth noting that last week cogs and hopper had probably their worst game for the year and then this week Cripps had his worst game for the year

I don’t think that is chance

wines / Houston combo has been very good at stopping opposition from winning the ball in the coal face.

I think sometimes we underrate inside mids because they aren’t hitting up targets all the time and take it for granted that the opposition aren’t dominant around contests and that our outside game is firing as if they aren’t linked.
Spot on. No matter how “football educated” you are, it is nearly impossible to rate the defensive side of an inside mids game, from outside the coaching box. We simply don’t know what they’ve been asked to do.

But if opposition output is the measure, the last two weeks (since Neale) have been great.

Lycett for Westhoff is obvious.
Ebert for Motlop highly likely.
Geogiades for Rozee if he’s not fit or needs a rest.

But who replaces Burton? Do Mayes, Farrell and Duursma rotate between the wing and half back, meaning we can pick a midfielder or forward for Burton. Or do we pick a defender- Bonner, Lienert, Watts, Bergman (listed in order of likelihood but in reverse order for excitement value).

It worries me that we are still to short in the back line. Why can't Ladhams play off half back, offering us that extra tall in defence, with Lycett rucking? I view Ladhams as a real plus for the group, surely he stays in.
It is not such a silly idea. He has shown he has more mobility than than a standard ruck and could possibly play back if required. **** covid-19 and the lack of opportunity to try things in the Maggies.

Motlop is crucial as a connector between the midfield and forward line. He receives handballs and finds open men on the break forward of the halfway line. Without him, we rely on our less composed midfielders to hoof the ball 50 metres up field with no plan of attack. He may not get a lot of the ball but he uses it wisely.
Farrell, Duursma, Amon

Saints will struggle to work through our press. They go very wide out of full back. This whole game could be played inside our F50. Need some goal sneaks in there. I'd love to see one of Bergmann or Williams - out of curiosity more than anything!
Could Ebo take Burton's spot at half back?

Watts for Burton?

their stats for this year are very similar except wines is blitzing his metres gained. Wines is also working harder to impact contests. Hopefully his form goes up to where it should be but who knows
Thats not a knock on either player. Just completely different styles of play. Rockliff gets the ball and feeds it to others outside of the contest who then push us forward. Wines gets the ball at the coal face and hacks it forward.

But over all I think we need Wines to be the one that wins out. He's 25, Rockliff is 30. So Rocky is very short term, so if he ends up prefered we've then got nothing in 1 or 2 years unless we can bring someone else in.

Definitely they struggled to get it out of defence against the Crows. They will fall apart against us.

We will lack height to go with King - this is where Dougal Howard would have been very useful. I still can't believe we got rid of him. It is probably the area of biggest concern for me on our list - the lack of a genuinely tall defender.

Our tallest defender is Tom Clurey at 193cm, which gives Max King a 9cm advantage - not to mention his arms seem longer than most.

If King gets off the leash, what is our backup plan?

Ladhams in the best coaches votes - will stay in the team.

Saints players to watch:
10 Jack Steele (STK)
6 Jade Gresham (STK)
4 Dougal Howard (STK)
4 Paddy Ryder (STK)

1 Daniel Butler (STK)

Cool. When did either of these guys ever play 2 good ones in row for us?

Paddy Ryder was, you know, a B&F and All-Australian for us. So there is that.
