The board really needs to issue Nicks and the selection committee a please explain why our 3 first round picks from last year look nowhere near playing.

And only Max from the year prior has debuted

And our first round draft pick midfielder in Pedlar destroyed in the Gallucci, Riley Knight half-forward wasteland where young talent goes to die.

Yeah I haven't tried them all but peters clears lol. Golden north is good too.

Love a giant twin, tried the ice coffee one 👍
Thankyou .....although GN was much better when I brought it to ADEL ....and Giant Twins were really Giant Twins ....but that's the commercial realities these days

This is the big question. This was (supposedly) one of our strongest draft hands ever, and they're telling us that none of the guys they picked are playing in a team that has 0 wins? When guys all around them are playing, in teams with much better records than ours?

Let’s analyse the 23 players selected a bit:

B: Nankervis, Butts, Smith

Nankervis needs to play every game for the next 10 years

Butts is nothing more than a depth player long-term, especially if we get Petty as a FA in 2025 as expected, but with Murray out, I’d prefer Butts over Borlase so no issues here at present

Smith is cooked and no chance of playing another final in his career, or of contributing to wins - would replace with one of Dowling or Oscar Ryan

HB: Hamill, Keane, Michalanney

The Hamill selection is lunacy. He is absolutely no chance of being on our list next year. None. Zero. Why on earth waste games on him? This should be the other of Oscar Ryan / Dowling.

Keane - yes. One of about 3 positives for the season thus far.

Michalanney - yes. Auto selection for the next 10-12 years.

C: Hinge, Dawson, Jones

Hinge is horrendously out of form. I don’t personally have an issue with Curtin not being selected yet in 2024 - with two preseason injuries and only one real SANFL game under his belt, he needs one more SANFL hitout. But assuming Curtin goes well this weekend, and assuming Hinge dishes up more headless chook garbage, Curtin MUST replace Hinge (or at least replace SOMEONE) next week. A home debut makes sense and I will be leading the pitchfork brigade if it doesn’t happen.

Dawson - tick

Jones - seriously, how on EARTH is this guy about to rack up his 5th game of the season. He has been utterly putrid every week. He was unequivocally worse than Sholl in BOTH of the games that led to Sholl being dropped (and dropping Sholl was correct because he’s just not an AFL player and never will be). I’ve already replaced Smith and Hamill with Ryan and Dowling, but realistically Dowling is the replacement for this complete failure from a wonderful family. Because I’ve already brought Dowling in, Taylor can have this spot. Don’t hold your breath for an offer from the Devils Chayce. They don’t need a reserves plodder. Ps, Zak Butters says hi Hamish. Nobody should ever forget this or excuse it.

HF: Soligo, Rankine, Rachele

No issues here. Pick them all every week.

F: McHenry, Fogarty, Tex

McHenry being selected, and named on the field for crying out loud (AFC only ever name subs from the bench), is outrageous. He was absolutely pitiful last week. The single worst player on the ground. He has no business being selected to play AFL football ever again by us, or any other club. Replace with C Edwards

Fogarty - yes

Tex - gotta play him most weeks but Marvel kinda reeks of the sort of game he should’ve been rested for if we weren’t such a basket case.

R: ROB, Laird, Keays

We have somehow constructed a list that contains 2 options to play as first ruck, and one is this bow-legged, 1 mark a week thing, and the other is a SANFL plodder. Yay we picked the one who gets all the tappy wappies that lead to all the constructive clearances. Having said that, he has to play every week. For crying out loud we need to recruit another option here though.

Laird playing in the midfield alongside Berry and Crouch in 2024 is absolutely the most stupid thing I’ve ever witnessed in the history of crows midfields. How any coaching group can continue to roll this shit out there is beyond me. Drop for Pedlar. Do NOT send to half back where his lack of pace and horrid footskills will still be a major liability. DROP. Let’s be honest though, Pedlar being dropped was required. He had been completely unacceptable at afl level this year. But he MIGHT have a future at the club and perhaps might be part of our next finals side. Laird won’t. Let’s just hope Pedlar can put together a nice SANFL performance this week to demand selection.

Keays - I mean, we’re almost out of fit options in the SANFL side at this point, but do we really keep rolling Keays out there? Is he actually offering anything? We know he tries hard. What else does he do? I think he holds on by the skin of his teeth due mainly to the incompetence of our drafting. There’s nobody left to replace him with all the other drops.

Int: Crouch, Worrell, Berry, Cook, Gollant

Crouch - absolutely pick him. His work inside has been first rate. I don’t buy into the “no hurt factor” argument when it comes to Crouch. He’s one of the very best ball extractors in the league and his handballing is first class. He just can’t be handballing it to Laird and Berry all day. Soligo, Dawson, Nank, Dowling, Rankine, Taylor receiving these handballs = good times

Worrell - yes, must pick

Berry - didn’t mind his sub performance. Would prefer him in the team over Laird. Still don’t rate him very highly anymore and he certainly wouldn’t play in any side with a competent recruiting team. Depth player long term. Retain as sub.

Cook - must play every week. Highly skilled and creative. Get a block of games into him and give him a decent % of game time. This is someone who is out of contract this year, and has never been given a block of games to show what he can do. We piss and moan about not having good enough skills - HE HAS GOT THEM.

Gollant - I am very much on the fence with this one. He’s shown flashes in the past, but what hope does he really have with this puke midfield delivering it to him. I suppose give him a few games

One more comment - when ROB rests on the bench, who the hell is rucking in the centre this week? If it’s Tex or Fog I’ll spew up. Gollant? Butts? Keane? Going to be absolutely woeful to watch any of those in even one centre bounce. Boundary throw-ins and forward 50 stoppages are easy enough for someone like Tex but if he’s at a centre bounce, be prepared to cringe.

So, in preparation for the Round 6 game at AO, we all know there’ll be minimal changes and whatever changes take place will likely be garbage, but what we SHOULD be seeing, and what would actually MAKE SENSE for the future of the club, would be:

Out:
Hamill (clinging on to a rookie list spot and a certain delistee at the end of 2024 - what are we achieving by playing him)

Smith (why waste any more games on him? Is he ever going to play in another finals campaign? No. Does he contribute to winning football right now? No)

Hinge (you can’t make as many horrendous decisions / skill errors in dangerous areas as this guy does and hold your spot. It’s not all over for him, but he must be dropped if he plays anything like he has been again this week)

Jones (not afl standard. Gallucci II minus the nose beers)

McHenry (if we offer this thing a contract, the club has no hope. Stop wasting games on proven failures. Should never play again and be delisted on day 1 of the offseason)

Laird (just can’t co-exist with Crouch and Berry. Many would drop Berry. Laird is the bigger problem for mine. Maybe the answer is dropping BOTH of Laird and Berry. I’m dropping Laird and keeping Berry as a regular sub)

In:
Ryan
Dowling
Edwards
Taylor
Pedlar
Curtin

Sub:
Berry

B: Michalanney - Butts - Worrell
HB: Ryan - Keane - Curtin
C: Dowling - Soligo - Nankervis
HF: Rachele - Walker - Pedlar
F: Gollant - Fogarty - Rankine
R: ROB - Dawson - Crouch
Int: Edwards - Taylor - Keays - Cook
Sub: Berry

We will never see that side run out there because the club is riddled with cancer, but the closer we get to it, the closer we’ll get to actually having something to look forward to. Playing proven failures, and guys who are NO CHANCE of being in our next finals side and/or even being on our list next year, especially when they are not even providing anything positive, is pointless. Rip the band-aid off, see how these guys handle the step up to the big time, and you likely unearth something. Will ****ing Hamill, Neddy ****ing McHenry and co aren’t the answer. Neither is a bunch of plodder inside mids. Neither is the corpse of Brodie Smith.

Do NOT send to half back where his lack of pace and horrid footskills will still be a major liability. DROP.
Elite call. No idea why so many people on here correctly complain about his dog shit kicking, and then say that he should be sent to a spot on the ground that specifically requires high quality kicking.

One more comment - when ROB rests on the bench, who the hell is rucking in the centre this week? Gollant?
Apparently so.
