Haha this is great.

I know Schache is tall but he plays like a flanker. If he does play back it might help Cordy as he's too undersized for 2nd KPD. At least provides a body for Cordy to come in as 3rd man up.

McNeil must have failed in some way last week against some metrics or specific instructions which Hannan had previously been doing well. Could have just been a 1 week spell to Hannan to lift his game. I don't see it, but it's the only thing I can come up with.

Having Libba back will be good.

A lot of talk here about going in too tall. We’ve picked 1 ruck, 1 tall on the bench, the 2 staples down back and the 3 big boys up forward, which has been our preferred set-up all season.

The mix between talls and smalls is about what it has been every game this season. West Coast and Geelong run out with significantly taller sides than this each week.

That said, I must concede that I’m curious about Schache’s role. With no Wood or Crozier, it would seem he’s in for a role down back.

if Schache does play down back i hope he has a Liam Jones type position change
Why do people assume Josh Schache somehow has it in him to play as a defender? Just because Liam Jones successfully converted doesn't mean all hack key-forwards can.

Liam Jones was always a good mark, he just had no consistency as a forward. Schache has never been a good mark and he's always been too soft for AFL level. He doesn't have anywhere near enough aggression to play like Jones does in defence. You think big gorilla key forwards would be even remotely concerned about going head to head with Josh Schache?

Agree I don't think we're too tall. JUH and Schache are more like over sized flankers.

Surprised Hannan back with Roarke still in the team. Would prefer McNeil to either one.

Schache is a surprise, I think we needed Young to come in and play the second ruck and Key defender role on either Gawn/Jackson.

i would like to see Schache be given 3/4 games as a key back in the VFL to see if he could be converted. Is a great kick and can read the ball. Hope he has improved his ruck work. Cannot see him playing as a fwd but I think this shows that Martin is unlikely to come back. Bevo is trialing who can play as the second ruck.

Not a fan of Bevo changes but sometimes he sees something we don’t and you never know it might work

Tall forward lines historically struggle in wet conditions, and it's going to be a rainy, windy day.

We've named FIVE(5) talls. I count Hannan as a tall forward because he plays like one (a really bad one).

This is just another example of Beveridge refusing to accept basic football philosophy that's proven to work. Last year he refused to play Trengove in the ruck when it was abundantly clear we needed physical presence, and even resorted to playing Dunkley as the #1 ruck when English was struggling. Now he's playing 5 tall forwards in a wet weather game, and two of them are duds.

Hawks are awful and went extra tall against Melbourne and pulled off a draw, even with Frost hitting up more Melbourne players than he ever did when he played for them.
We stop Brayshaw or make him actually play on an opponent rather than sit off all game and kill our switches, we probably win last time.

I'm actually more confident now than I was 24 hours ago.
Trac and Oliver will have got the votes, but it was absolutely Gawn, Harmes and Brayshaw that stopped us last time.

Charlie Bucket

I'm interested in your opinion of the changes this week and what you think Bevo's plan is?

...and don't give me 'I have faith in Bevo because we've only lost four games' I'd hate to accuse you of being a lazy poster going with the same stupid rhetoric

;)

Cheers

Well, at least we’re going to try and make their tall defenders accountable!

I’d rather neither of Schache/Hannan, or maybe only one, but both against the top of the ladder team is interesting to say the least.

On the bright side, Goodwin now has no idea what’s coming….

Maybe the tactic is for 2 of the 4 tall forwards to play defensively on May and Lever? Maybe Schache will ruck?

Not sure where Hannan fits in here either...
Has he got any value as a tagger, enforcer? Seeing how he should have some inside info into the Dees.

i didnt say i think he does just hope he can, cause always liked Schache and would love to see it all work out for him

Schache HAS to have been brought in as a defender. He hasn’t replaced any forward, isn’t named forward and we are one short in defence. Surely…
If common sense exists, Naughton is the one who goes into defence.

Anyone who believes Schache into defence at AFL level is a good decision is absolutely kidding themselves.

Q.) What do Bont, Alex Keath, Libba and Naughton have in common with the 5:15 to Sunbury?

A.) They carry lots of passengers near or at the MCG. Before covid

Geelong play wet games at Kardinia Park every other week and play 5 Centre Half Backs.

I very much disliked Dunkley playing 2nd ruck last year but can’t see how that has anything to do with this week’s selections. That was 12 months ago.

I think if you took JJ from the below bench and replaced him with Jordan McMahon it would be the most i uninspiring bench I have seen as a Bulldog fan and I have been around a while

int: Josh Schache, Mitch Hannan, Roarke Smith Jordan McMahon

So? Defenders are not forwards, they don't need to mark the ball to do their job. Also, guys like Tom Stewart and Jack Henry are more than competent at ground level, while we're carrying Hannan and Schache, who are both poor in the air and ground level.

2nd ruck? Did you watch the Geelong game last year were we coughed up a 38 point quarter time lead? He was playing as the #1 ruck for most of the game. Geelong generated multiple goals directly from hitouts to advantage that game. The coach rationalized it by saying "well, it doesn't matter who we put there, we're going to get beaten anyway, might as well have an extra midfielder".

Is this directly related to this week's selections? No, the point I was making is that Beveridge refuses to accept footballing philosophies that work, and instead opts for stupid matchday decisions that consistently don't work.

He's actually a dud coach. I credit the success of the team this year to the list managers, particularly those in charge of drafting youth since 2012.

I love watching Schache play and hope he dominates. The JUH and Schache set shot combo will be a thing of beauty.
Schache to be the closest to Naughton at all times. Every time he takes a mark pulls a Brian Lake- can't take his kick because he's hurt. Schache goals, Naughton miraculously recovers.

Its foolproof, Bev is a genius
