I remember someone posting something similar about Sonny Walters.
And fact is Rioli is the same height, 175cm, as is Bolton.
I also have doubts about Jones and his size. I think he gets drafted later 2nd round onwards.

So Darcy Jones is actually 7cm taller than Caleb Daniel (168cm). I think part of the issue is Jones is also very small framed. If he put some muscle on he’d be fine. Agree he’s unlikely to go first round though, but could be in contention for us at 20 or 26

Gossage and Cummings interviewed Elijah Hewett on SEN this morning. Here’s a few takeaways:

- He sounds very mature and comfortable in the media. You could easily think he was 30 years old.
- hoping to go in the 8-12 draft range (don’t know if that’s a coincidence with Eagles picks)
- doesn’t support the Eagles (or anyone), but his whole family does.
- isn’t worried about moving interstate
- Indian heritage but hates cricket
- favorite sport is golf. doesn’t watch football or listen to music

My prediction is Ginbey will be gone so we will take Busslinger and Hewett
Weird that someone can be good enough at footy to be drafted in the first round, but doesn't support a team or even watch matches.

Jones problem is not inherently his height. Its his small body frame.
He also doesnt have the kicking depth of say winder.
Guys like Rioli, Daniel and even Dion Predtia whilst short have much larger frames so will be able to put weight on and handle it without it negatively affecting them.
I think Jones potentially gets crushed at afl level now and even in 4 years he would always be a huge risk of major impact/tackling injuries and concussions.
Also he is 100% a midfielder not a small forward. So you're again drafting a mid and trying to turn them into a forward. Yes he has forward nous but he's certainly not elite in that area.
With the AFL becoming more contested and more man on man little guys like this become even less attractive and potentially significantly less effective, not only offensively but particularly defensively.

I must say he handled himself very well in the interview, came across as a very mature kid with his head screwed on the right way.
You would imagine that he would present well in the Club interviews.
Kids very focused and is a natural in the media.
I've been in on an interview with him and he does interview well. Whilst he said the right things when it came to questions about moving interstate his body language stiffened before answering.
Now I know almost no other club is going to have someone like me reading people like that but it's certainly a reason to slide.
He is an on field leader and comes across very composed both on field and in interviews.

I’m relatively indifferent to which particular players we take in this draft as there are a range of broadly equal options at each pick. So it’s more a matter of hoping we don’t take certain players at those picks because they either don’t suit our needs or we’d be taking them too early
With that said, Hewett is the one player I’ll be pissed if we miss out on. He’s such an obvious choice at 12 that it would beggar belief if we take longer than 30 seconds to call his name out
I’d even be happy if we called him out at 8, although I think we’d be comfortable that St Kilda (Mackenzie), Carlton (Hollands), Bulldogs (Busslinger or Phillipou - depending on who we take at 8) will overlook Hewett
I don’t think we should be taking the gamble that he slides all the way to 20.
In all respects he’s a very good fit for our squad
Culley said he didn't have a team or watch games either. Only watched his own replays.
