At ~198CM you don't need to be top 10 in vertical jump. You already have a massive standing reach advantage over those short people who are top 10. Just need to have a decent vertical, doesn't need to be crazy (Nic Nat was a freak in that he was ~200cm with a crazy vert)
I dont know too much about u18 players other than reading the information from footy websites and applied a bit of "common sense" to discuss.
1. I am not sure Cadman is 198cm or 194cm
( Ref: Inside top prospect Aaron Cadman’s transformation… and why it has AFL clubs lining up to land him )
2. Even he is198cm, he is not competing with the short defenders as a key forward. He will be looked after by tall defenders.
3. Most of the available videos show that his strength is moving around, mark on the lead (not so much on contested mark against opponent) A bit like our Waterman.

Same principle stands, the taller you are your vert tends to top out at good, rather than great. Only the real freaks couple height with a great vert. It doesn't ultimately matter as long as they reach the good level though.

Jones or Keeler at pick 20 for mine.

I really feel it'll have to be Jones as he looks like he'd be a super important pickup given his athletic profile and football smarts.

Rioli is gone, Legdon is trash and Petrucelle is a fraud. We have no small/high half forwards on our list other than that. Alarm bells.

Hope the big SA boy can slide to 26 after.

Dream?

8 - Ginbey/McKenzie
12 - Hewett
20 - Jones
26 - Keeler
I think we still need an inside mid. I’m not sure Culley is the boy, yes he tackles well but I’m not sure getting in first and winning it is his strength.
Looks like he tackles well has a good kick and makes good decisions, can push forward to take a grab and kick a goal.

So that leaves Clarke or Ginbey as obvious choices at pick 8 as inside mids. I’d be surprised if Clarke was still there at 8.

McKenzie is an interesting one, it’s his kicking and decision making that are elite and something required for sides to bring the ball back through the corridor which is a need for us.

But if we went him I’m not sure Ginbey would be there at 12.

Guess if we went McKenzie and Hewitt we would still be looking for an inside mid later in the draft or next year even. Guess we have a few years to put the pieces together.

I’m very content with the draft hand don’t know why everyone is up in arms. Better chance of getting at least one gun and the ability to bring more youth in while our aged guns are still available to guide them
At least there is a sign the club sees the need to turn the list over as quick as they can.
Bit of a risk but hopefuly it speeds the process up.

We also added Hunt so there's that too.

Trying to take the long term view but I'm an internet addicted Millennial who wants instant gratification right now.

Everything I read about the trade says we have traded down because that’s where the wa talent is projected to go.
Saying that I hope the club isn’t that narrow minded and I’m going to choose to ignore it.

At least now I have a broader range of players to look at.

8. Poo, Clark, McKenzie, Humphries
12. Hotton, Hewett
20 . Ginbey, Jones
26. Barnett, Keeler

We won't be able to judge the deal until after next year at least.
That might even be too early.

I give it 3 seasons before we know the true reflection, in my humble opinion.

Which would be interesting. Most phantoms have them taking Hollands, for family reasons. But if Hollands slides past GC, I bet he's still there at 12 and maybe even 20.
12 maybe but I highly doubt he makes it to 20. If he does slip past GC then I would love for us to nab him

I was initially a bit pissed with the 8 and 12 trade but have come around. I know that pick 2 (3) doesn't come around too often and I have read comment about backing our club and culture in but if we were interested in Cadman I can see the prospect of spending 2 years playing for the Begles making anyone feel home sick. Can't underestimate how critical it is to get the feeder right.
Should be at least exciting watching some young talent pull on the blue and gold next year.
If we rewind 12 months the prospect of getting Busslinger and Hewitt in this years draft would have almost been laughable.

Bit concerning he doesn’t know the name of the player he bases his game on, or maybe he likes a bit of Jamie cripps and Jack crisp😂
