I dont like this cadman talk, go mids please
We need mids this year at least, next years draft has plenty of talls apparently

Everyone likes to get edgy and fancy, and i understand weve got to talk about something but just draft warlord or the poo and get it over with

I agree that pick 2 would be best spent on a mid.
However if West Coast did something like this.

Pick 2: Cadman
Pick 20: Gibney, Szybowski, Hotton, George, maybe even Hewitt slides
Pick 26 and possibly 27
Another from the group above maybe and
Jones,D’alioa, Ryan,Clarke

Mid season draft next year?

Next Year 2023
Pick 1-8. Mid
2024 1st rounder Mid
Pick 20-28 Mid/flanker

2024
Second rounder ?

It may be worthwhile to take Cadman as it’s only one of at least 3 1st rounders we will have. Also understand that there will be key position players in next years. We could possibly pull a future 1st rounder forward at some point which gets you another 1st rounder a year earlier too.

If they went Cadman wouldn’t be a disaster unless of course he’s no good 🤣
Mid season is usually pretty limited, you just have to take best available. Usually a few overlooked rucks there.

The other factor to keep in mind in regards to drafting Cadman over a midfielder is timing the list's peak competitiveness.
Cadman will likely be peaking in several years time, whereas a player like Wardlaw or Tsatas could have more of an instant impact and could really hit their straps after only a few years. However, this instant impact is pointless if the rest of the list is still mediocre! Prioritising talls early in the rebuild and then targeting midfield guns towards the end of the rebound maximises the potential for our future talls and smalls peaking at the same time.
Sure, it may delay our rise back up the ladder, but if it enhances our peak potential longer term, then its worth it. Last thing we want is to languish around 5th spot during our "premiership window" like we did post-2018.
Naturally, we should be preparing our list for our inevitable 2030 premiership...

Personally, I'm finding it very hard to split Wardlaw, Sheezel, Phillipou, Cadman and Tsatas at this stage, although currently I'd probably rank them in that order. If we could convince Gold Coast to part with 5 and 7 this would be a dream result, but I just don't see them desiring a player enough to make the deal. But let's just say they were hot on Tsatas as a linebreaker to compliment the likes of Miller and Rowell:

BL - Ashcroft
NM - Wardlaw
GC - Tsatas
GWS - Sheezel
ESS - Humphrey
WC - Cadman
HAW - Mackenzie/Clark
WC - Phillipou
5 and 7 would be an excellent result but how you get that is tough.

Assuming crows do give up 5.

Pick 5&7 to eagles for?

1) 2 & Future 2nd
2) 2 & 20
3) 2 & (swap 1st rounders next year) could be giving up pick one next year 😬
4) Pick 2 & 20 and future 3rd
5) pick 2 & Andrew Gaff 😂 (looking forward to 20 pages of melts)

Top 15 pick? Sure I wouldnt use pick 2 on any of them.

However if pick 2 turned into pick 9 and 15?

9 Phillapou / Mackenzie

15 Hewett / Ryan / Ginbey

You would chuck a wobbly over that?
If we got Phillipou at 9 then very happy but it's also unlikely.

I would throw a tantrum if we got
9 Mackenzie
15 Hewett / Ryan / Ginbey

Hewett i'm off the train and now I see him as a pacey winger with average skills but no defensive workrate
Ryan goes okay as a balanced midfielder but needs support around him. Ideally can do better in that spot
Ginbey i'm thinking is still there at 38 not that I would want him with poor footskills

Thats been mentioned a few times and particularly by WCE_phil who is not a fan.

IMO he certainly isn't the best kick at goals and its a bit of a worry for me, however there also is lots to like about his game.
He works hard up the ground and many of his shot at goal have been on the run.
For a KPF he gets a lot of the ball.

Covers the ground ball like a mid sized player and the comparisons, of his playing style, too that of Jeremy Cameron are a good likeness.

Strong lad and is a left footer.

He has now grown to 196 cm 88 kg, here are his stats for his 12 games this year.

Stats for the season: averages per game.

3. 6 goals
20.4 disposals
6.4 marks

Played 12 games and kicked 34 goals.

Kicked 4 or more goals on four occasions.

Cadman to the midfield!

Reading the posts I'm coming around to Cadman at 2. He has excellent numbers, only the kicking is annoying. People keep saying draft midfielders and I'm one of them but if we draft too many young mids there won't be enough game time to go around what with sheed, redden, shuey, yeo, gaff and Kelly running through there still. I mean if we are keeping all the old mids we can't play that many young mids until a few oldies retire at the end of 2023, so maybe we should take Cadman who has a spot there with Kennedy gone and won't play every game anyway as talks take more time. Draft more mids in 2023 draft when they will get more game time in season 2024 once redden and shuey are retired.

To me, it really seems like we can't lose. Keep two. Get Wardlaw, Sheezel or Cadman.
Split two (if we do it properly). Get a Clark, McKenzie, Hewitt, Phillipou or Busslinger

Win - Win really.

A forward that cant kick. Why do we want Cadman? Its like getting Casboult or John Butcher.

Our lack of pace makes me think we might target Elijah Tsatas with our pick. Happy with Sheezel as with no Rioli we need the x-factor in the forward line.

I’m just not sure Cadman should be our target.

North might take Cadman anyway

I am more than happy if we take Sheezel, he plays next year and one touch silky smooth players are never a bust.

I would prefer Cadman to Tsatas .... but each to their own.

Sheezels touch in the wet earlier in the year was sublime, something we don’t have a lot of. If he’s there at 2 I think he has to be the pick.

With regards to a Gold Coast trade if next year is stronger draft are we better off trying to amass 2-3 round draft currency next year to trade with Gold Coast? They’ll have academy players and there’s every chance they’ll be in the 8-12 range first round, perhaps higher if another player decides to up and go. I guess it’s a risk if we can’t get the trade done we’re stuck with a glut of picks next year.

Do want Sheezel/Mckenzie don’t want Cadman. I’d prefer to build our midfield out over the next two drafts then the following year, when our bigger contracts start to fall off, look to bring in a homesick Logan McDonald with our first and second pick and Tim English off free agency. If we can’t get Logan we’ve got Jack Williams developing.

Hagan to me seems to be in the familiar position dittmar was in last year. Has his fans but the downsides I can easily see him going undrafted and open as a rookie pick which I’d be fine with as from what I’ve read his application appears elite which would be good around the club.

Hypothetically, would you - next year - split pick 1 for say 2/3 and 4/5?

WA draft picks I want as follows:

Reubin Ginbey has so much scope to improve has not been playing as a mid for long
and back end of colts season after championship just got better and better, loved he started showing great
marking overhead at end of season as this was a weakness for him before
He is great a getting the hardball first possession but what improved as season went on was when he got that second possession
and started to use his pace he is breathtakingly good when he does that to breakaway from the contest.
He is seriously fast i think he would beat Petch for pace and is only just starting to learn how to use it as a inside mid
He is also a left footer

Mid season i considered him a half back that could play midfield.
Now have changed my mind he is a hard as inside mid with blistering pace he keeps improving growing his game
I think he can end up being one of the very best players of this draft
I wouldn't be unhappy to use pick 2 on him
If drops to our second round pick would be the bargain of the year

Sam Gilbey - broke his leg so should be able to pick him up in third round now, wonderful kick and another with
amazing pace.

Kaleb Smith - east freo boy and my favourite player apart from Ginbey this colts season
His streaming run of half back he is super quick and powerful very good one on one has good positioning and power in legs to hold position
rarely loses one on one then runs of opposition

Rookies

Tyrell Dewar
Jordyn Baker

Both NGA boys and terrific rookie types

No rucks this draft next year will be the best draft for Ruckman in ten years

Any idea who we're particularly into at this stage (particularly for first pick)?

You had early word on our interest in Hough last year from what I recall.

Pick 2 on Ginbey would be one of the most funniest reaches I’ve ever seen, are you serious

Cadman projects as a CHF for me

Agree and a very mobile one at that.

Perfect foil for Oscar at FF.

You can see why the Pie Man .... might just do it.

That's fine.

Not sure the Suns agree that is fair though.

In fact Im pretty sure that wont happen.

Yeah I'm not really expecting it to eventuate

Is Cadman a toys out of the cot selection or would it be dependant on who we bring in with our other picks?

I’ve long held the view that we should be taking a midfielder with our first pick because it’s the area of greatest need. But the impression I’m getting from people who’s opinion I value is that the mids this year aren’t quite projecting at the superstar level of other years

With that in mind, a talented KPF we can develop, might not be the worst option. Or am I reading the draft pool incorrectly

Who was that North player in the 70s or 80s who would take 4 or 5 goalsquare speccies a game but even from 10 metres out was more likely to miss than kick a goal? Was it Baker or something like that?

I agree. now the question is do they bet on the split pick and get cadman and mackenzie or philipou
