Schoey on Shelter Footycast today mentioning a Gather Round convo with a player agent who looks after a WA player that was offered and rejected a move to an Eastern States club... Would be shocked if that wasn't TB he's talking about.

Agent said the deal basically means nothing and if that club came again they could get it done if the player wanted to move.

If it’s a WA player it could just as easily be Sean Darcy based on what you’ve posted above

The academy list above.
I’ve cut and pasted that list but I’m certain 180cm is incorrect and that he’s 187cm. Have you (or anyone) had a look at/have any thoughts on any of the following?

Pick 10-25
O’Farrell (KPD)
Travaglia (HBF)
Hotton (Wing)
Mraz (KPD)

Pick 25-35
Retschko (Wing)
Gerryn (KPF) WA

Pick 50+
Van Der Struyf (Wing) WA
Clancy Dennis (KPD) WA

The first group in particular are the kids I think would fit our list if we split our first pick and also with our 2R. The WA boys could also end up rookie picks.

Barrass managed by Harley’s manager the Geish at Connors’ sports. Could also be Andy Bradshaw or Darcy.

I strongly doubt Mraz is there at our second pick but if he was at this stage would be hard to pass up.

Hotton looks like a bolter but skills are an issue, will go between our first and second pick imo.

Travaglia is a watch for me on our second pick as is Lalor.

No real interest in the rest of the players on your list.

TBH hoping for a standout choice at our first and happy and hopeful of trading our second for Busslinger.

Good shout. Bad for culture to push Darcy out but they could have made a killing off him selling him to the Cats. He's surplus to requirements at this point.

I will say though that Schoey talks about TB a lot. So I did draw that connection but it's not like Schoey dropped any hints that it was him.

Not Brayshaw as he's due to sign soon, as opposed to has recently signed. Darcy might be the one as per Keys.

On Gerreyn I think we need to wait until the champs. Isn't a high level prospect at this point imo and is playing in the weakest junior comp in the country atm.

He would need to have a good Championships and most probably would need to make his way into the seniors at West Perth, to give himself a chance to be drafted, that said he has the agility that IF he can improve his skills and harness them, then he has some attractive traits.
What I would like to see more of him is footy smarts and better decision making and ........ he needs to be more impactful in the aerial contests.

Surely a kid like him ( assuming we see some further development and he can hold his own at the Champs ), is the sort of player thats worth a punt on a rookie list, like we did with Livingston.

Who at best is a 35% chance to make it.
I get the feeling that only one of Livingston or J Williams remain on our list in 2 years time.

As far as our tall stocks go, Archer Reid's progression and development / or not, will have a big bearing on our draft and list needs going forward.

You know my thought on him, all the talent in the world, just not sure he will be able to put it all together, if he cant he will be a bust, however IF he can then we will have a really good footballer on our list, I don't see a lot of in between for him.

I do agree with your thought that he may become a key defender rather than a forward, thats our fallback position with him

Thats why I say that his development will be a very important cog in shaping our list management going forward.

Mraz is a very promising kid and I would be stoked if we landed him.

MSD? Seems likely we’ll get the first or second pick - which if the player is Maric/Culley quality then it’s a definite plus.

But am I right that we can only create that by either a LTI or a retirement?

If so, unless Hewett (or in the meantime another player) goes to LTI then it has to be Gaff (JD??) retiring. I wonder if that is likely.

PS: I wonder if Hewett’s injury is only listed as ‘post bye’ as a way of keeping our MSD options open?

That’s correct. Luckily we retained Zane Trew though.

No list spot available currently

Date of the MSD was announced today as May 29 which is just after R11 which is only 6 weeks away

Unless Hewett has a significant and unexpected setback then it’ll likely be too soon to make a decision to put him on the LTI list as they’d still be hoping he’ll recover

It’s also probably too early to push Gaff into an early retirement even though this is almost certainly his last season

So for us to participate in the MSD it would require someone to have a season ending injury in the next 6 weeks

Is there a clear target that warrants action?

In hindsight, we should have probably cut one more player and left one position open.

Otherwise, I hope our medicos are confident regarding Hewett. He has to be good enough to play a decent amount of game time. Otherwise, if he isn't ready until Round 16/17, then I would be on the side of caution and extend his break and bring him in fresh for the Pre-season.

Our list needs as many kids and talent in now, and being absent in a Mid-Season draft seems a missed opportunity.

Round 16/17 still leaves a huge amount of possible game time for Hewett. If he played r17 and r18 in the WAFL, then there is still a solid 6 weeks of footy for him at AFL level that we would probably be better off with than someone in the MSD.
