If we can get an indication from The Chad what his intentions are for the end of next year before this draft that would be ideal. If he wants to come to the Eagles great. If it’s Freo then I would offer our F1 to Freo for their 3x1Rs this year and see if they bite.
GCs will probably be better.

On every form of Media…..
But the tears are for Carlton and Richmond, not for the academy teams, and it's not about taking away the 20% discount. If we get a mention, it's as an after thought. First mention of us, was one of the journo's on twitter highlighting that we look pretty short of picks and points in this years draft. And that's on day 3 of the media going to town on AFL house.

Ugle-Hagan was in the Dogs country NGA zone out around Warnambool, born in an aboriginal reserve out that way. He was originally in the GWV Rebels zone, but the Dogs moved him to Melbourne, got him his scholarship at Scotch and coaching in their Melbourne based nga academy (whatever that entails), and re-aligned to Oakleigh Charges. One of the draft watchers on the draft board who works out that way, and has strong connections at the Rebels was talking Ugle-Hagan up before the Dogs moved him to Melbourne at 15.

Pretty much the perfect example of what the NGA academies are supposed to do.

The Northern academies are set up more like CTL teams. They're supposed to be the elite level of the pathway. The AFL just couldn't be arsed funding them. The vast majority of kids come from footballing families, some with AFL ties, many with QAFL and QFA ties, many many others from interstate families that have relocated to QLD want their kids to play the same sport they did. We don't have to "earn" any of our academy kids, we're supposed to fund their footy education.
So Ugle Hasan would have been playing at the Rebels but the Dogs saved him and got him with the Chargers. Why is that a perfect example of the NGA system. I know what happened with Liam Henry with Fremantle and a scholarship at Christchurch.

Both were going to play football and both were showing AFL traits. Earlier coaching helped their development. This is the case for every young footballer

Probably.

He received extra coaching in their academy. Played at a good private school with a presumably good program (which ex afl player is their coach), hopefully got a good education at the same time.

Maybe he was a better player by his draft year, so went pick 1. Maybe if he stayed in the rebels zone he still would have got drafted, but maybe the Doggies pass on him and he ends up at North.

Can't tell, unless has an infinity stone and wants to go back and see what an alternate reality throws up.

Haven't heard this story.

I’d also prefer to trade with GCS, but I think they’re likely to try and turn those picks into players. In saying that a lot depends on Laura’s complex new draft rules.
I’m glad they are not compromised, only complex

Is it just me or is Laura the AFL mouth piece for saying what Dillon wants. Never thought I’d be saying it but “bring back Brad Scott”

Laura failed at Arden St and is on a rinse and repeat, but with a really engaging smile

The way she carries a footy around when the cameras are rolling as if it gives her some sort of gravitas is just embarrassing. Totally out of her depth, I agree with you on Brad Scott. Should have gone with substance over optics, who would have thought. Brad might be an outside chance to get his old job back when Essendon tumble out of the 8.

Something got her the job, surely competency was the no1 requirement and therefore she didn’t fail at north.

King Nizzie has returned to be on a panel at the wafl to provide recommendations on how to improve talent pathways etc.

Article in the west about it all.

I don’t remember the exact figures but something like 20% of AFL players came from just the top 16 private schools (who make up <1% of all secondary students).
Probably shouldn’t be surprised when you think of their facilities, coaches etc. Even so …

(Similarly, half or so of the Oz cricket team.)

Hope we don’t get too aggressive signing up spuds on big coin, just to make us feel like we’re being proactive

Kako and Dodson are way too high.
Harry O’Farrell with our 2R would be an option to replace Barrass long term if we traded him, assuming we could get a deal done for Buss with our F2. Draft Travaglia and get Cumming over via FA and the long term backline would be pretty much done, with both those players able to push onto a wing.

With the Sydney academy, it is not just that they get the discount for their academy guns.

5-6 discounted guns in their starting starting 22 is a fair leg up, but then they also get to pick the eyeballs out of the draft with their other picks as well.

From memory, Logan McDonald at 4 followed by Campbell their Academy kid at 5 is a nice haul in anyone’s book and a good way to rebuild. Meanwhile, we finish last as the so called ‘worst team in history’ and get picks 1 and 30 odd.

Travaglia is coming in hot, do we take him with our first? Assuming finn and smillie are gone by our pick if we can't split pick 3 we might have to. Or maybe it's a case of sliding back a couple of picks and getting another R2 like what we did with chesser in 2021.

Yeah surely wed be looking at that, id even try for their F1 instead of one of this years picks just to stay in the draft next year. Our F1 for 2x 1r this year and Freo F1, plus whatever else in there to make it fair

Surely Warner is Freo bound if anything, sounds like theyve got the salary cap space so itll be really hard to beat them.
Im more than happy to miss him and go through the draft if thats the case
