So 4th?
He's the worst starting ruck in the league and the 4th best task forward for a team that has 10 wins in 3 seasons. He needs to go.

We really are late to the party that AFL rucks pretty much need to be 205+cm nowadays unless they are athletic freaks (Nic and Paddy Ryder, even then they were the last generation), or absolutely 4th mids (Grundy).

We’ve continued to invest through the draft in 200/201cm rucks who are struggling (Barnett is young, but also seems to have gone backwards).

And, as a forward, B Williams is at his highest ranking on our list right now. A Reid will overtake him soon, maybe Livingstone also. He puts in, never question his effort, but he just isn’t a #1 ruck and his backup position is literally the single area of the ground we are stacked (tall forwards plus depth).

It’s all about replacement level players though.

Can we find someone (Reid/J Will) who can give us 75% of what waterman is giving us, but if pick up an AA squad level midfielder with pick 5 they will be an exponential upgrade on the dross we currently have. And midfields are what make a team competitive or not, at afl level.
Exactly, its not just Waterman out some kid in.
We have JWilliams ready to go, and Darling for another year while Archer continues to develop, while still having Bailey at a stretch who can make a marking contest if nothing else as a forward, and Oscar obviously.

Adding Draper to the midfield and lalor as a fwd/mid would be huge for us for the future

Watching Dambrosio tearing it up for Hawks makes me wonder if our club has any guts to do the same. Find a player knocking around on a flank and chuck him into the midfield/wing.

I think James Tunstill is the guy. He will literally be free. Can play on a wing/outside . Seems worth a shot

Xerri is 201cm, Marshall is 201cm, Nankervis is 199cm and Briggs is 201cm. Xerri and Marshall are 2 of the top 3 rucks in the comp along with Gawn.
Bailey is 201cm too.

Nank is a tank, Xerri is super aggressive, Marshall has insane work rate and Briggs is a bit of a mix of them all. None are particularly athletic, Bailey would have them all covered in that regard.

If Bailey put on 5kgs and spent a full preseason knowing hes going to be a ruckman he wont get bodied like he does, hes still got the body shape of a key forward

Why wouldnt we have the guts?
Its just about spotting someone you think has it, I dont think the Hawks took a random punt

Obrien 201
Grundy 202
Briggs 201
Keefe 204
Bryan 203
Mcinerny 204
Meek 203
Xerri 202
Cameron 204
Stanley 200
Pittonet 202
Marshall 201
Darcy 203
Reidy 204
Nankervis 199
Jackson 199

Only Gawn, Witts and English are bigger than 205 and English is a terrible tap ruckman.

Dont think Williams has the ability to put the weight on like the rest. Some just dont put mass on for whatever reason. He is the Brent Staker of rucks

Cos we keep offering contracts to potatoes like Jack Graham as opposed to going younger and the like
How many players better than Graham are just floating around being delisted? Then how many of those are willing to move across the country to a poorly performing club when no doubt other clubs will notice them too?

Unless theyre from WA its probably close to 0

Maybe, maybe not.

Every preseason hes had with us hes been training as a forward who spends some time in the ruck, hes never trained and built his body with the intention of being full time ruck.

We arent getting rid of him this offseason anyway so doesnt really matter, but I have some hope

I do think its clear we need to draft another ruck or recruit a young ruckman like Knobel or something.

Dodson would be nice, dunno if we can get him with pick 23 though

This is exactly what I mean by having guts. Find someone who isnt performing at the level of Jack Graham and who isnt getting the chances and get them here

People who are not getting a opportunity will move to W.A . No doubts about that

100% no. We need someone whose ready to go tomorrow, not wait another 2 years while we get destroyed in the centre

Liam Reidy, Ned Reeves, Nick Bryan, Marc Pittonet, Ned Moyle

Drastically overpay one of these. I know Ned Moyle signed on but 5 years 4 mill and see what happens at this point. Nick Bryan id give a 5 year 4 mill offer too. Marc Pittonet can get 3 years 2.1 mill. Reeves can get 3 years 1.5 mill. Reidy can get 2 years 1 mill

Figure it the hell out

Dambrosio wasnt some discarded player, Essendon offered him a contract - they wanted to keep him.

He got 16 games in his first 1 and a half seasons at the Dons as a teenager, hardly lacking opportunity

Davies subbed out at GCS again. I wonder if with the emergence of Moyle, Witts would be open to a move on very good money. If Lukosious leaves, BWilliams might have a spot there as a chop out for Moyle and a tall forward if we pay some of his salary whilst Walter develops.

Ryan and BWilliams (with salary contributions) for Davies and Witts and exchange of picks to balance.

Yes any of those would be nice, Reeves the one I dont really want as hes a bit skinny so can be pushed off the ball and does less around the ground than Bailey does.

If we are offering massive overpay then who knows what we could shake loose.

The trade value is the problem, all those guys except Reeves and Reidy will be required players
Reidy depends what Freo want to do with Darcy and Reeves depends what the Hawks think of their ruck backup options.

Both those clubs are in the finals mix so wont want to ruin their depth

Cant see Witts leaving even though would love to see it. We are probably better off just going ballistic on a Ned Moyle contract. Basically give him the offer we gave Tim English

Levi casboults still at the suns and is still a better forward than Williams is or ever will be..

I do like the idea that anyone will take williams not thinking that other teams would have seen him and know he is a potato.

Id give up future 2nd + Ryan for Moyle to make that work for example. Id pay massive overs at the trade table too

If Baker says no and Tim English said no, we basically have 1.8 mill floating around to use so lets go nuts

This probably falls into line of getting compensation from AFL too. If they can give us 2 end of 1st round picks would like to think we can turn that + our 1.8 mill into some readymade best 22 footballers

should look for free agents and old players, not young players who would cost us huge draft capital.

Offer Witts 4 years on $1m a year and I reckon he’ll be on the first plane to Perth.

GCS don’t rate Davies and we don’t rate BWilliams yet he’s played every game this year. Seems fair.

Why would GC take that for Moyle?

Witts is 32 in a couple of weeks, their next ruckman in line is Ethan Read who is 19

If im GC Moyle is untouchable
Moyles more the dream then the reality Gotta budge people to want to leave kind of thing. We would have to give up more for sure. Maybe 3 2nd rounders including 1 future but we need to be a bit more proactive then we are ultimately

Out of all the options I mentioned id target Liam Reidy. Would come for free and be 1st ruck for sure. Fits the wants I have. A good tap ruck who nullifies his opponent

Wouldnt chasing Witts for example and drafting a ruck also fulfill these wants.

Get 3 years of Witts for example, then maybe some random cheapie for a couple of years. By then Dodson will be ready

Have full career of a young ruck and get Witts right now who is far better than Reidy or any of the other blokes you listed. While our mids are young theyd get a very good tap ruckman
