Latest news and rumours:

  • List Manager Matt Clarke appeared on Gettable - Click spoiler below for summary
On the draft: "We predicted that the draft was strong, but it's probably gotten stronger during the year."

On top end of draft: "You could probably make five or six different choices and get it right."

On Pick 3: "I reckon there's five (players) around that mark."

On splitting: "I think you want to hold an early selection if you can. The depth of this group allows you to maybe have some movement there, and see what you can do to bring in more talent in the first 20-25 picks. Easier said than done, and I think most clubs would be saying the same thing. We'll see what we can do."

On Liam Baker: "He's still yet to make a decision. They're still weighing up a few things. We'd love to get Liam on board from what he offers from a talent and leadership point of view. We understand where we're at as a group, we're rebuilding our group, we need to add some guys in the middle tier to support our young group."

On Jack Graham: "We've got a number of players that we're speaking to. A bit of a wait and see on that one as well. We'll talk to a number of guys."

On Shai Bolton: "I think it will be difficult for anybody, really. He's heavily contracted and a high quality player."

On James Peatling: "He's heavily involved in a finals series at the moment so I don't want to comment too much on it, but I think there's a number of guys that have been playing really good footy this year that could suit what we do and what other clubs do. He's taken his footy to another level this year."

On Tom Barrass: "We've had an early discussion with Hawthorn about it, they understand where we're at. He's nominated Hawthorn as his ideal destination. We want what we think he's worth, as a genuine key back in the competition that can do what he can do. We're obviously mindful of getting an appropriate deal for West Coast."

On Tom Clurey: "Maybe (note: sounded very non enthused). We'd probably need some key back depth, whether that's through the draft or trade and free agency."

On Jack Darling: "We've had initial discussions with his management group about (moving). We're open to talking, as we are with all of our players, but Jack's contracted with us."

On Liam Ryan: "I expect him to be at West Coast next year, yes." (The most definitive answer of the day by a mile, a non-starter of a talking point.)

On out of contact players e.g. Rotham, Witherden, Jones: "We're still working through what it looks like from a list point of view, and how many selections we'll want to have, and players that may come in and potentially may go out. You might want to give a coach an opportunity to look at these guys."

On Harley Reid: "We've had discussions most of the year with his management group. I think it sits in a really good place. We're open to doing really whatever they want to do to be honest. We're really confident in building the right system around Harley, on and off field, to make sure that he's really comfortable, that he's going to play his best footy, and his long term future."

On Jake Waterman's new deal: "Yep, really close. We're working really closely with his management on that. I expect that we'll have something done pretty soon."

On Oscar Allen: "We've been talking with Oscar and his manager most of the year on that one. We're going through some stuff at the moment. I think we'll be ok with that one."

You would think as an AFL player in 2026 and maybe 2027 he is getting absolutely minimum of $300k p.a.

He’s probably not getting that outside of footy, at least not initially.

It makes sense for all involved and if JD is keen we should facilitate and wish him well.

Hoping JD and TB (assuming both leave) aren’t booed. They will be, but should be applauded in some ways for helping the club by leaving

I reckon he won't leave, but hypothetically if JD did go to say NM, would the AFL schedule WCE v NM @ Perth Stadium in Round 2?

I can tell you right now WCE would accept 9,10 and 17 not just for pick 3 but for 3 and 23.

This seems to be the draft for downgrading if there ever was one, but I'm still sceptical this would be the right call. Despite the evenness there's a top handful emerging and I think it's almost always better to try and add one of them. You're unnecessarily down on Jagga for example, and I'd rather add him/Draper/Lalor (yes still) than...who.... Lindsay and Travaglia?

Admittedly, everyone seems to be desperate to land TT so they'd probably be fine with that; I'm much more lukewarm on him for us.

I also have strong views on Lalor's midfield ability (though accept the fitness reservations are legitimate); will probably do a big post about it soon, with vision.

I'm also scarred by the recent history of WCE pick downgrades.

One interesting rumour is that the Tigers are keen to land FOS and Jagga.

How do they do that?

Tigers with Rioli and Bolton trades may end up with 1st round picks 1, 6, 9, 10 and 17,.

Would they offer 6 plus 9 for 3? A few shuffles of later picks.

We get Hawks first at 12ish.

6, 9 and 12 are our fist rounders.

Lalor
Travaglia
Lindsay

All will end up playing midfield minutes but can also play on the flanks.

We need quanity and quality.

I would cream for a trade of 3 for 6+9.

Happily give 23 for that to happen, although that would be subject to battle compo.

He’s absolutely going in the top 3.

We'll see. Not sure two of the 3 teams with those picks are interested and Tigers would have someone else in mind at 1.

Strongly agree. Also a bigger tank and better kicking penetration than McCluggage. If he slips to 3 it’s Christmas.

Do people actually think he’s gonna be as tough inside at AFL as Clugg?
Clugg can hold his own in wet weather games when he’s needs to. I would worry about FOS size in a role like that at afl level.

If he’s there at 3, we will be picking him and if North don’t trade down, I think they’ll pick him. He’ll go to Richmond, North or us without a doubt imo. He might go 4 after an Ashcroft bid though, so you might be right on a technicality haha

People need to get over the prediction norf will split.

They are simple people.
The supporters and I mean look at norf board are simple people.
They will take best available mid player.

They will not take a point of difference or a key position player. If the best available player happens to be a small mid they will take it

FOS is hard as nails. When it’s his turn to go, he’ll go. That’s not a concern at all. Whether he can develop physically into the size required is a different story but it won’t be due to a lack of commitment.

In regards to Harvey Langford.

He should thank his lucky stars he's not going to the combine.

I just can't shake the feeling of his awful testing last year and his only vfl performance against men leading to 12 possessions.

What makes you think we'd take him?
I also think North has Draper ahead of him.

As much as I would take a trade for JD, I don't see old man wanting to up the family to Melbourne this late in his career.

Hopefully I am wrong, I would like to see more of Archer Reid next year, after Jack Williams.

Three years averaging. $650 or one yearon $800k and then unemployed.

People do move families for work. And for much less.

Keep 3 and pick the sure thing in draiper . Has speed , skill , toughness ,leadership and work ethic .

Its a deep draft and I would rather take punts on speculative players with later picks .

Put pick 3 (draiper) in the bag who will play seniors from round 1.
