Tad glass half empty approach there tho.
Sounds like Hawks will satisfy us regardless of where they finish this year with something on top of their R1, Darling will more than likely go for what a late 3rd rounder?
Even if all went pear shaped as you said, if Clarke and co aren't aggressive in getting more picks in they may as well pack up and leave.
From the snippets Phil etc are giving us we are going to be aggressive and need to be so we don't get dicked when Tassie come in like we did ala Gold Coast draft 2010.

Yeah not wrong, it's probably worst case scenario, but also not exactly far fetched either.

With Hawthorn on a successful run most clubs can only dream of and pushing hard into finals.. it could be the gap between how much they want/need Barrass and our asking price just widens.

It's not like them being successful should suddenly change what we're willing to part with our contracted vice captain for.

That said, if it does pan out that he stays, with our lame draft hand we'd have to really get creative with building our list. Moneyball approach. Got cash spare but no picks.

Get that moron Dev over for a late pick for starters, then see what teams are squeezed for salary and see if we can take a player plus a pick off someone, ala Bowes to Geelong.

Other than that, we'd have to just focus on what DFA's are available.

I recall when an uncontracted TK requested a trade to WCE that Geelong and VIC media made the point that if he wants to go home there are two WA clubs so the Cats will trade him to the highest bidder.

I can only assume this applies even more so for a contracted TB wanting to go home to VIC where there are ten clubs for WCE to choose from.

Let’s open the bidding at a pick inside the top 10…

Saints just lost Battle, have cap space and pick 7 plus compo. Moorabbin is right next door to the Hawks new home at Dingley ??

If the Hawks pull out or give us a take it or leave it offer, hopefully we do shop him around if all bridges are burnt.
His manager will seek other destinations if a trade can’t be accomplished.

It will be up to the Hawks to try and get a deal done if we require a higher pick with likely the Suns, Brissy or Dons

Keep that War Chest or as I like to call it ‘Warner Chest’ ready for next year $$
If we are after Warner, it has to be two firsts for Barrass, even if we're sending multiple picks back the other way.

Surely now even the Victorian media can't twist themselves into saying Barrass is worth Hawthorn's 1st round pick.

And it seems to confirm that Scott Burns and Sam Mitchell's time with us helped a bit towards the 2018 Premiership.

No-one would say any 1 person was the sole (or even main) reason we won... it is way too complex for that. Same as the blame for the position we have been in for the last few yesrs.

Just pointing out that supposedly Burns had a big part in the "web" tactics and Mitchell proved our midfield.

Think you’re getting Burns muddled up with Hickmott

Scott Burns applied for the senior coaching position in 2013 being an assistant at the club under Worsfold. Left after missing the job so never worked with Simpson

Hickmott was the backline coach in 2015 who helped with the Weagles Web and was then midfield coach in 2018.

Mitchell was a first year midfield development coach in 2018

And THAT is what we need for pick 3.

That is how you fast forward a rebuild.
It's also an unrealistic trade for any team that isn't Gold Coast and maybe GWS

Probably should be asking for 14+F1 anyway. 14 has the potential to drop back to 17 with Suns matching Lombard, Saints Battle compo and possible Dons matching Kako.

Else, like others mentioned, tell Hawks they need a top 10 pick and it's up to them to work it out. They've offered TB 4 years with a easy trigger for 5 on big money, so they clearly want him.

Lets be insane for a moment

What would a club give us for our future 1st rounder? Is it too out of the question to say Richmond give us say pick 9,39 and Baker for our Future 1st + 23

If we say Bakers value is a pick 15 then points wise it would be 1900 points back for us which is like pick 5

Provided we finished bottom 5 which Richmond would bank on they would be okay to not stack all the picks in one draft and pick next year while turning Baker into the kind of asset they want him to be draft pick wise
Do you even go for west coast? Giving up our future first.... delusional

I don't think that's fair.
Barnett was the stand out underage ruck in 2022 just as much as Dodson is this year.
If people are now writing him off (which IMO is still too early to do) I think that's more down to development rather than the selection at the time he was drafted.
Was always weak bodied like English. Has underperformed so far but we should still have hope!

That is why in some ways this year makes more sense for a Warner trade than next year as both WCE and Freo should have significant draft capital to trade. Hopefully Freo tie up all their picks and salary cap in Bolton (and fingers crossed Baker) leaving us in the best position for Warner.

But would Sydney be satisfied with just draft picks while pushing for a flag and losing a young AA mid? If they want players included then TB would’ve been perfect, but now all we could really offer is Flyin’ who I’m not sure they need with some decent small forwards already. Not to mention he would have to agree to go to Sydney.

I get the impression that family is a greater pull than destination for Barrass, and I don't see Warner leaving Sydney this year unless they win a flag, which renders the first point moot anyway.
