Latest news and rumours

Done deals:

  • Zane Trew, Jamaine Jones and Jordyn Baker delisted

Ongoing discussions:

  • List Manager Matt Clarke appeared on Sept 11 Gettable - Click spoiler below for summary
On the draft: "We predicted that the draft was strong, but it's probably gotten stronger during the year."

On top end of draft: "You could probably make five or six different choices and get it right."

On Pick 3: "I reckon there's five (players) around that mark."

On splitting: "I think you want to hold an early selection if you can. The depth of this group allows you to maybe have some movement there, and see what you can do to bring in more talent in the first 20-25 picks. Easier said than done, and I think most clubs would be saying the same thing. We'll see what we can do."

On Liam Baker: "He's still yet to make a decision. They're still weighing up a few things. We'd love to get Liam on board from what he offers from a talent and leadership point of view. We understand where we're at as a group, we're rebuilding our group, we need to add some guys in the middle tier to support our young group."

On Jack Graham: "We've got a number of players that we're speaking to. A bit of a wait and see on that one as well. We'll talk to a number of guys."

On Shai Bolton: "I think it will be difficult for anybody, really. He's heavily contracted and a high quality player."

On James Peatling: "He's heavily involved in a finals series at the moment so I don't want to comment too much on it, but I think there's a number of guys that have been playing really good footy this year that could suit what we do and what other clubs do. He's taken his footy to another level this year."

On Tom Barrass: "We've had an early discussion with Hawthorn about it, they understand where we're at. He's nominated Hawthorn as his ideal destination. We want what we think he's worth, as a genuine key back in the competition that can do what he can do. We're obviously mindful of getting an appropriate deal for West Coast."

On Tom Clurey: "Maybe (note: sounded very non enthused). We'd probably need some key back depth, whether that's through the draft or trade and free agency."

On Jack Darling: "We've had initial discussions with his management group about (moving). We're open to talking, as we are with all of our players, but Jack's contracted with us."

On Liam Ryan: "I expect him to be at West Coast next year, yes." (The most definitive answer of the day by a mile, a non-starter of a talking point.)

On out of contact players e.g. Rotham, Witherden, Jones: "We're still working through what it looks like from a list point of view, and how many selections we'll want to have, and players that may come in and potentially may go out. You might want to give a coach an opportunity to look at these guys."

On Harley Reid: "We've had discussions most of the year with his management group. I think it sits in a really good place. We're open to doing really whatever they want to do to be honest. We're really confident in building the right system around Harley, on and off field, to make sure that he's really comfortable, that he's going to play his best footy, and his long term future."

On Jake Waterman's new deal: "Yep, really close. We're working really closely with his management on that. I expect that we'll have something done pretty soon."

On Oscar Allen: "We've been talking with Oscar and his manager most of the year on that one. We're going through some stuff at the moment. I think we'll be ok with that one."

Titch 21, Fyfe 20, Neale 58, Wines 7, Crippa 13.

I’m all for good picks but it’s a particularly even draft and if we can turn 3 into near on two top 10s I’m all for it this time around
The brownlow medal means f**k all these days, it's basically the I got the football heaps in the middle of the ground award

As long as splitting has nothing to do with Baker... That's the issue I see.

I'd tell hawks give us the two future firsts and take our F2 (hopefully we open with F3).

Then give tigers the hawks F1 for Baker and 24. They dont like it, then move on.

3 24 26 67 this year and 2 F1 ain't a bad outlook.
If we can then split 3 for something juicy then sure.

Also, I know it's less than what Richmond are asking for but should we give up pick 26 for Baker (assuming we can't work out the Barrass trade) that would leave us with pick 3 and then pick 63 being our next selection. I can't imagine a world in which such an outcome would be acceptable to us in the middle of a rebuild. Ergo, if there is nothing else on the table we cannot offer even pick 26 to Richmond this year (as it currently stands).
Can we give them pick 26 so they can take this clown Clarke off our hands

With the Hawks blowing up the Barrass deal but still acquiring Battle, why don't West Coast try a deal with Saint Kilda?

Option 1 (little lopsided):
WC Give: Barrass, Pick 23
WC Receive: Pick 7, 8

OR

Option 2:
WC Give: Pick 3, Barrass
WC Receive: Pick 7, 8, 27

Is there any chance whatsoever that a pragmatic conversation is had between us, richmond and baker and he stays on a 1 year contract?? Comes to us as a free agent next year and tigers pick up #2 compo. Both teams come out much better than whatever they will get this year, its just baker who doesnt immediately get what he wants.

Highly unlikely given its not the norm for how things are done in the AFL but I'm sure we'll see arrangements like that in the future.

I don't disagree with you, I just think the Brownlow medal is a complete waste of time these days

Then we agree to agree fine Sir

I thought I'd read it all but one Richmond supporter over on their trade thread suggested our Pick 3 for Baker + Pick 18.
Now ain't that something.

There's an extremely high level of delusion over there.
Somebody should stop the distribution of Kool-aid.
Worst bunch of supporters on BF, and that's saying a lot.

We have been absolutely shithouse at finding midfield talent in the 2nd round, be nice to change things up this year (assuming we've got a pick to use)

I can see that. I think because the league is a farce and we still have minimal selections and no PP to speak of + the evenness from 3 through 8 this year, that if we can get two in close to top 10 with a 3 split I’d pull the trigger on it

Seems like the smartest option if we can find someone who'd do it, hopefully we don't do that and then trade one of the picks for Baker

Whenever I mention my feeling we should split 3 this year, rest assured it has zero to do with Baker. He’s a nice to have for sure but definitely not cool with paying overs for him

Hawthorn board overall is quite smug they’ve taught us a lesson for not accepting their first TB offer. In reality I think my boy Clarke has told them to gtfo town and to bring us back something better to play with - possibly under specific instructions as to what we would need to ship him there. Clubs in the window looking for a key back should he prepared to go a little overs imo if loading up for a tilt. Really hoping so

Apparently he taught us a lesson by eliminating ability to strengthen his team this year.

Sam will be happy given he thinks 2025 could be the year.
