I'll not an FB nuffie, I'm a BF nuffie and I still think Naish got stitched up.

Probably our most consistent WAFL player and technically the best performed depth we had this year.

Unlucky for him, Gaff has unlimited credits.

Typical fb response.

Not surprised given Naish was demoted to the WAFL for a while...

But considering he played some good games and is a young player, and is a rookie, thought there was no harm giving him another year.

Seems like the Eagles are slashing harder than I thought they would.

Big fan of Naish’s approach of getting the ball then just kicking the ever loving shit out of it.

Contest down the line? Kick it further.

Nobody forward or the ball and two spare defenders? Try to clear them.

A very novel and very amusing approach,
good call to delist but ah what memories we made.

There was a lot of immediate love for Naish and Dixon. Quite justifiable as well. They were all heart, which was something we weren't playing with at the time.

But it became apparent pretty quickly why they were cut.

From late July:

Couldn't fault Naish's endeavour, effort and risk taking earlier in the season but it become pretty obvious pretty quickly why he couldn't stay on Richmond's list. It almost always turns out this way with recycled players. I'd re-rookie him if we could, but I doubt he's going to be any more than injury cover. Hugh Dixon you could say the exact thing about as well except replace Richmond with Fremantle.

Just also not the best environment at the moment to be getting the most out of players with deficiencies.

Meh, when all of Trev and Simmos favourite A graders were either injured or absolutely pathetic on the field, the idea of a kid getting a late call up and being one of our better players at the start of the year resonates with fans.

Nobody can ever deny Naish had flaws in his game, namely his kicking, but gee whiz he tried his heart out, ran his ass off and cracked in when many of our senior "leaders" cashed a much higher pay check and put in a lot less.

I would've rewarded Naish with another year personally, give him a chance to settle properly and do a pre season etc, but I can also understand him being let go.

I just feel we keep worse players for a hell of a lot longer than we kept Naish.

Mitch Cleary just said Graham to Port likely to be done for a 2nd rounder, I wonder if it’ll be the Amon comp or a future 2nd

No coincidence that when that head tilter came back into the side Naish got shuffled then dropped…

A bit like what happened to Greg Clark… went too well in the middle then off to aa flank or wing you go… we have credits to fit in.

Especially with Redden's unexpected retirement opening up a list spot.

Hopefully, we look to re-rookie him. We could do a lot worse than that.

All these list cuts it's a good thing. I hope there's more coming. Basically if anything has come from season 2022 is that our depth players are not up too it. We need to turn that wheel and bring in players who can cover injuries while still able to perform or possible break into the best 22.

Shows they have no faith in our depth which is good list management with all these cuttings. I'd be concern if we didnt. We need better depth especially midfield depth and another ruck like how we got Cox, Sinclair or Hickey in the past from basically nothing. Most came from the PSD. Only way we can do that is turn the dead wood over and open up those list spots for new comers.
Agree with what your saying we all go hard and some really hard on the club at times. They probably have copped the criticism they deserve however with the results we have had.

Simmo did say towards the end of the season that they now had a really good feel for where the list was at and what was required going forward
That’s not word for word but it’s what he was saying so any of these changes are probably for the best.

Can we get an updated playing list now with Redden retired and Rioli traded. :thumbsu:

How many spots do we have open now?

Thanks
So I will qualify it and say this already has Sheppard out

We have 35 on our main list (with Jones having been moved at some stage) as it stands today and 3 on the Rookie lists.

No news on Witherden and Winder on the main list, no news on West and Trew on the rookie list.

The Demons are not prepared to add an extra pick to the deal, with the Dockers not keen to use an extra selection to move up the board.

West Coast has also looked closely at Jackson and has the No.2 pick in the pre-season draft if a trade fell through, but the Eagles are not prepared to use their No.2 national draft selection in a direct deal for the 21-year-old.

Love it, about time we played hardball this time of year

I thought it was more of a decision making issue with Naish rather than pure kicking skill. Playing in a really poor side at both levels wouldn't help either. Still, him staying or leaving won't change much.

Rioli is a better player than Graham
Rioli at his best - yes.

Graham is in contract and a great leader

Junior comes with a checkered past, is out of contract plus closer to 30

That said, there are loads of Grahams but few Riolis

Winder, Trew, West, Witherton all out wouldn't phase me.

Sign Quinten Lynch Narkle for nothing as a DFA. Yeah, he's average and I expect very little... however this draft is also apparently crap, so I think the rookie draft will almost be moot.
Never know though with rookie draft as its different compared to the draft. The draft is basically a under 18 only thing.

PSD there might be a fair bit of unknown talent with mature age players still. No one looks at the state league level players and thinks draft. That all belongs to the PSD. Could still find a few good mature players around the 22-27 age group.
