Not sure how Freo can afford salary cap wise after getting Jackson last year and a lot of there younger players at the age where there salaries increase

Depends. Teams consistently demonstrate that they can continue to bring in big names despite already having well established sides. Jackson might not be on that much coin - could have even taken a paycut to come home for all we know.

Fyfe on his last legs, too. As much as the purps love him, I reckon they'd prefer he was put out to pasture and Naughton was taking the free spot in the forward line on Fyfes coin.

Agreed. But they've got a lot of pieces and he's one they're missing. I'd prefer to pay a lot at the start of a window than the end of one.
Yep. If they do try this year, they'll have to get creative though, the Dogs will not be that interested in the Dockers' picks imo.

I think they have end of 2nd and end of 3rd round picks this year, and likely a late 2024 1st to work with. The Dogs will want much better picks than that imo.

I doubt the Dogs will want it done this year the more I think about it, because I can't see Freo satisfying them.

Freo are probably better off paying less for Georgiades this year and trying to get Naughton for free the following. That allows them to firm up the forward line and sell the vision to Naughts. Delete all their existing tall forwards accounts, Jackson excluded.

Naughton will be ooc next year, but not a FA until 2025.

AFL supposedly changing the rules around trading future firsts to encourage more movement.

Good to see Freo still haven't learn their lesson around trading away their future for a last-ditch shot at a flag.

Last ditch shot?

They have every line covered bar key forwards.

So trading for an established goal kicker would be smart.

I did not know that! I thought there was a lot of back slapping round these parts on how we were going to grab him for free when he came out of contract next as he'd signed through to FA.

Will he be OOC?
But not a FA i guess?

Correct. Signed an extension until end 2024, but we'll have to pay. We will have currency though, given where we sit at the moment. Not against backing ourselves to land our own talls through the draft either, but he will be more established.

Controversial take incoming....I don't really rate him as highly as most others seem to. I think he lacks a bit athletically to be a dominant KF.

Early days, I suppose. I think there's a lot to like, but he does have some hype based on potential.

There's definitely potential there, but he does remind me a lot of Karl Langdon.

IIRC Naughton’s preference at the draft was to go to Victoria rather than stay in WA. He was born in Victoria and spent his early years there. He still has family there. No harm in Freo or WCE asking the question but it sounds like he’d be harder to move than the average West Aussie.

They also dropped him from the Peel Grand Final for Dawson after Naughton put in a massive season

He had a lot to say around the place about his thoughts on that

But if they got salary cap to make him a massive offer, he probably let that slide

Freo will offer him $1M pa, Dawson's WAFL Premiership medal and they will scratch out his name on the trophy and write Naughton's in.

That's an offer you can't refuse.

It's the only medal he'll get for his career too.

The way Naughton is going, his body will be shot by 28/29.

I don't know what the Dogs have been doing for him to help develop and expand his skills, he's still a one trick pony; fly for a mark. Outside of his marking ability, he's a pretty useless tall forward.

That's a classic Freo trade. Sell the farm for a guy who breaks down. Trent Croad, Jessie Hogan - you know it's going to happen.

Reckon if he went to another club, he'd have been one of the best key back in the comp by now
