So do we still need to trade for Dev Robertson next year? I would say No now.
I wouldn't think so. since the mid-season draft last year, we've completely rebuilt the midfield and on-ball brigade, presuming they all come on of course.

Would be looking at a key forward first, then best available after that.

Of course, they club will always go 'best available' with the first pick presumably. Harley Reid anyone?

No what i heard was there is a tall in the mix for the last pick. The potential promise to a certain player which the club has done in the past the player has already been alluded to by royal eagle. I really gave out all the info I can until after the rest of the draft tomorrow.

Apart from yes WCE got wind of the Hewett deal. I dont think Allan was ever a chance at 12/14 personally.
So you were working for Carlton, yeah?

As one who has been critical of some of our recruiting over the last decade, more specifically our lack of mids that have worked out and someone who has given The Pie Man a decent amount of flack and insults, I need to now say this.

This years draft haul has been nothing short of brilliant, nailed it to a tee.

To The Pie man and Co.

After having read the full draft haul, this is my reaction.

This is the best draft haul that I can remember .

What RO'B & Co have been able to add to last years intake has been an excellent kick start to the rebuild.

Just need these players to develop properly now. That’s the hard bit #Simmospride
We've been pretty good at letting our 1st and 2nd round picks get AFL exposure. From 2016 and 2017 all of:Rioli, Waterman, Allen, Ryan and Petrol have played plenty of games. 2018 and 2019 wasn't the best haul but still had some exposure. 2020 and 2021 drafts have seen Edwards, Winder, Hough and Bazzo have a good chance.

I have no doubt that the mids/smalls we drafted this year will get exposure next year. Barnett will need to do the typical slow ruckman development - so he can focus on getting muscle and being consistent in the WAFL.

We're likely to do a pretty hefty list cull at the end of 2023. Have 2 or 3 over 30s to retire, plus a bunch of mid age depth players to clean out.

I don’t see how I’ve ever given the impression I wouldn’t mind cutting deep?

Again, I’m not the one wanting to gift one of those mid age depth player games.

Perhaps it was your incessant backing of our underperforming midfield, in particular senior players that are past it, whilst simultaneously talking up the idea of redrafting Trew and Winder who are apparently "proven AFL standard" despite the fact they've both just been delisted from the club that finished equal last, even though they were contracted?

Something tells me you don't like change.

With Steely Green gone, I'm not too fussed about who we pick ib the RD but although I wouldn't have picked him in the top 30 I'd give Mitch Szybkowski a shot if Norf don't take him at #1.

I doubt we'll go for him. All players drafted by us so far are quick. Szybkowsk's main knock is his speed (also not the best kick)

The only person I’ve said we should resign that was slightly controversial this off-season was Shuey, agreed with all the list cuts this year (assuming Winder gets rookied) and was in favour of Hurn retiring given our depth in the GD area.

Winder and Trew have the potential to be AFL standard, never have I said they’ve proven to be. I assumed Gilbey would be off the board and as such didn’t think there would be a more talented player available in the RD, with Gilbey I’m happy to not re rookie Trew.

Meanwhile you are wanting to not only keep but gift games to a player that is a great WAFL player but will never be anything more than depth at AFL level.

You seem obsessed with me 👌

Excellent offseason so far. Any movement in strength and conditioning? Arguably our #1 priority this offseason.
Only changes in off-season personnel announced have been to beef up development :

Steve Trewhella as Development Manager
Tom Morrison as a Development Coach
Matt Burgin as Sports Psychologist

At least one member of the S&C team has been moved on but not named. Nisbett has indicated there’ll be a new appointment in that department which hasn’t yet eventuated

We’ll have 17 players coming out of contract next year :

Priority Signing
  • Hough
  • Culley

Developing
- J Williams

One more year?
  • McGovern
  • Cripps

Playing for a contract
  • Petruccelle
  • Waterman
  • Petrevski-Seton
  • O’Neill
  • Foley
  • Clarke
  • Witherden
  • West
  • Rookie 1
  • Rookie 2

Retirees
  • Hurn
  • Shuey

Big year for those fringe players playing for a new contract

Gov is only 30 - if he plays in 2023 at the level he was playing this season before injury, you'd think he will go on for more than one year - should be a few I would've thought. Or, are you saying it'll only be 1 year contracts for him from now on?
