So now that trades are live, at what point does the SPS trade get done you think?

From what I read, his son has a rare health condition that means he might not live very long, really unbearable for a parent but he was born after he moved back if I'm not mistaken. Gary did work extremely hard at the Sun's, no doubt, but I'm pretty sure as the other poster said he took the front loaded contract and left.

didn’t his sister die ?
so requested the move to be closer to family

We have a track record of getting trades done early - in fact the first trades of 2020 (Langdon) and 2019 (Kelly) were WCE

The SPS trade may take a little longer though for a couple of reasons
- Carlton have some interest in Brander although it’s unclear how much or whether other clubs also have interest. Given that a swap between Brander and SPS is somewhat logical, with or without pick swaps to balance things, there may be a delay whilst Carlton/Brander make up their minds
- Carlton are going to need something to add to pick 6 for Cerra that isn’t their existing 2nd rounder so they’ll be pushing for one of ours (29 or 35) whereas I hope we’ll only be offering 52 if Brander isn’t involved

Fair bit to play out I think

Im hoping we are looking at pick swaps with our future 2nd or 3rd to land another pick. Then use a couple of those to get another pick in the 20 - 30's or potentially better.

Gold Coast want future picks.

Richmond will have excess picks.

Will Brisbane also want extra picks ?
remember reading somewhere that they have a high rated academy kid coming through next year.
wonder if a future second/ this years second and third would get the us their pick 18?
Not sure what that is equal to on a points basis

Yep, from reports Brisbane (Ashcroft) want extra future picks, as well as GC (and I assume Richmond will use their substantial draft hand - somewhat gifted by the AFL - to get some future picks also).

Next year is meant to be a really good draft (but, they say that every year!). So teams may value future selections slightly higher.

I'd say our first we should keep - but 2nd/3rd rounders should be on the table for the right offer (and should be valued around us finishing 9th or worse. And if we can somehow rebound into top 4-6 then we'll get pretty good value for them).

If MJ and Erasmus were gone as were the other top mids you wouldnt discount it. The kid is tall but flexible. Essendon was playing a 200cm kid on the wing this year to very good effect.

Would anyone knock back a potential Nic replacement at pick 12 / 13?
Drafting a kid away from home especially someone as raw as Mac and expect him to do minimum 3-4 years in the wafl .

It will be brander all over again .

Richmond have the same issue with chol

Look at bailey Williams. If he doesn't get into the side next season I can see him leaving too as he is OOC 2022 .

It should very much be a strategy to pick the long term prospects from WA as they can still continue their normal lives around family and friends while they develop .

Unless your a man child like natanui or Jackson its going to be 4-5 years before you get meaningful gametime

Normally yes but this kid can play on any flank. He's not your normal, lumbering 200cm ruck prospect. I would be very surprised if it took him4-5 years to play meaningful game time. Again I point to Cox at Essendon as a recent example.

The kids background is obviously important and how he interviews. Eagles are pretty good at keeping interstate kids. And playing and being coached by Nic? Who better to learn from.

Just on a related note say if we had a serious crack at Jackson atthe Dees. This kid is their academy prospecct they now cant bid on will rule changes so will lose him. Quite a handy trade piece for Jackson I would suggest.

yeah Definitely think their pick 18 is getable with future 2nd/3rd and this years 35.

Id assume we will only take 3 picks this year with our tight salary cap and list spots.
Draft hand of pick 10/18/29 looks pretty handsome

could be:
10-Johnson
18- Van Rooyen
29- potential mid (Jackson, Taylor)

would not be opposed to taking Sheldrick with a late or rookie pick, just think 29 is a msssive reach

I'd hope we never, ever pick a player as a potential trade piece (not saying you were suggesting that as strategy- I'm assuming you were adding a footnote of 'if he does want to leave after 2/3 years then...').

Whoever we take we should want to be a long-term player for us.

That said - Andrew is apparently on the radar of the Giants (Behind JHF and Darcy on their board). I'd doubt other teams have him that high - so maybe they try to trade down and split picks.

Freo probably the obvious candidate (holding 6 & 8 - albeit that would be too much). Possibly Richmond.

Really depends on where Andrew would/can go. If clubs rate him in the 6-10 range then it would be crazy for GWS to take him at 2 rather than trade down.

Has Jordan Clark officially asked for a trade? Local radio suggested as much this morning, maybe I've missed it as Freo seem to be showing more interest in him/have the cash.

Looks like Collingwood are the club to take advantage of Fold Coast being a basket case at the trade table this year.

22, 46 and 52 for a Future 2nd and Future 3rd by the looks.

So basically a super early second rounder plus 2 third rounders for a future second and future third.

Wouldn't have minded that 22. Would've offered Future 3rd plus our 35 for it.

Collingwood future 2nd will be an early 20s pick next year and future 2nd early 40s .
So they really only gained 52 out of it

Collingwood would probably on-trade 22 for the right offer (assuming they have the open list spots).

The issue is we probably don't have anything overly enticing currently without giving up a very similar pick (plus another high-ish pick) or lower picks that don't really add much in the way of points for them.

Can't get much earlier in the 2nd than 22.

Collingwood would have to finish bottom 3, THEN there's the FA compensation next year which could push it back further.

It's basically a free swing for Collingwood. Won't cost them a cent doing this trade.
