Can't agree with this.

Everything I've seen from Waterman at WAFL level suggests he's the superior key target option up front. 27 games for 69 goals and 178 marks (6.5 a game).

Dixon has played 35 games for 42 goals. 143 marks (4 a game).

They're basically the same age. Dixon was signed on the back of a few moments in a preseason game. Kind of a recent Everton tactic, and we nearly got relegated last season...
I am sort of a supporter of Waterman, but as an AFL player his position is definitely a third tall not a kpf or even a kpd. He has little or no impact when played as a key forward. Dixon couldn’t be much worse, the bar is very low.

I don’t see that their stats at WAFL level are particularly relevant - a different game with different sized players, even Nelson gets good stats in the WAFL, the term ‘flat track bully’ comes to mind regarding Waterman in the WAFL. In addition, apparently the penny has dropped for Dixon and he is taking football more seriously and has stepped up his level.

I see something in Dixon, you don’t, we disagree, we move on.

Dixon has ready been told he won’t be around next year.

Didn’t rock up to training day after the Hipie club incident, Simmo is not a fan!!
Seems to me on the face of it there is a bit of a double standard going on here. The old ‘credits in the bank’ principle. (I don’t have inside information, I am only going on media reports which I am quite ready to acknowledge may not have the true or whole story).

But, it’s okay for Ryan to write his vehicle off around a tree and spit the dummy at a training camp but Dixon makes a mistake and then he’s written off, persona non grata forever. There may well be more to these two situations but if that is how it is, no wonder performances have tanked. One law for the favoured and a different law for the others.

Not rocking up to training without a valid excuse never really goes down well with the coach though does it

I agree but apart from hard work, West has no stand out qualities.
Jones did all the grunt work but was also a brilliant mark for his size.

I think the workhorse guys still need one really good party trick.
He's got some composure getting the ball out of traffic, and that's more than we could say for a lot of our mids.

I think it would be worth pointing out (and it was discussed on this thread recently) that these types generally lift when playing in a good, functioning side. He hasn't really had that opportunity yet, and it's one of the reasons I believe he still has some improvement in him.

If these are the rules, no wonder the team is s**t.
What are the rules? Dixon isn't being delisted because he went to the Hip-e club, he's being delisted because he's not that good and he pissed the coach off. You can't really do that if you're not very good.
So you would have delisted Ryan?

This feels like out first year out of the eight because we were inside it for so much of last year before falling away at the end. Next year will equal three years out of the eight, which is the longest we've ever missed finals. I reckon we might hit four but I see us up and about don't see us missing for five years. I like the look of some of our young kids, we just need to draft a few quality players, then trade in a couple round the right age group and we'll be flying again.
I don’t mean to be disrespectful, but I struggle to think of another club with so few quality young players. Especially midfielders.

Maybe Adelaide and St Kilda.

Agree, I think people expecting a quick bounce back for us are in for a shock. I mean it'd be nice but it'd take some seriously good drafting and trading this year and next.

You might not mean it, but you sure as **** are being so!

Geelong's are garbage:). Richmond doesn't have a lot either. No surprises, considering how long those teams spent at the top of the ladder (like WCE did).

Teams at the start of their rebuilds always have poor young players, as they are rebuilding. They won't become rated until they take the next step and the team moves up the ladder. 2 seasons ago both Freo and Carlton looked pretty crap, but that has changed now their players have developed.

I remember when we won the spoon in 2010, a rival list manager was quoted in the media as describing our list as beige, with no one you would want to trade for. The team played in a prelim the next year.

In 2018, everyone thought we were cooked and would miss finals (me included). We won the flag.

The fun of the rebuild is that you never know where the next great talent will come from. In last year's draft alone - Hough and Bazzo look exciting. Culley also looks like he has a lot of potential.

Getting the next bunch of elite talent will be the key. Hopefully we start with one with pick 2 this year. We already have Oscar Allen to lead the forward line. Another bottom 4 finish next year or the next will hopefully get us another top mid. Maybe we will be lucky and trade a mid that goes to the next level (I've heard there's a WA bloke at Brissie that can't get games :)
