If Buddy wants to leave Sydney will do the right thing and trade him cheap. He’s played 330+ games, is the only one left from his draft year still going. Has given great service to Sydney. They don’t need his salary on the books. They help make the move possible.

I'm not so sure about that.

he's a huge marketing piece for them, has been on $1m+ for a number of years, and is averaging around 2.5 goals a game for the past few years (quite probably above that, but at a minimum 2.5 goals a game).

Brisbane are going to have 15-18 as a pick, plus another directly after that for McStay. They won't want to water down the McStay compo by bringing in a FA - but will almost certainly trade that pick to bank points rather than just have 2 x 1st rounders consumed by bids.

Maybe something like 26, 33 & 34 to Brisbane, 15 to GC, 16 to Sydney. Possibly some later pick swaps as well (as this scenario is really just 2 independent trades)

26 + 34 from GC to Brisbane, 15 to GC (slight points upgrade)
Franklin and 33 from Sydney, 16 from Brisbane back (it's about equivalent to pick 36 in points).

Brisbane will probably want/need a few more points than that - and Sydney would end up with 3 x late 1st rounders - so likely another club would be involved which would give Sydney an earlier pick, that club 2 late 1sts, and another points holding pick to Brisbane.

Glad we could work the permit out to get him to play for our WAFL side, but are we 100% sure he opened and read the email to join our NGA?

and, in seriousness, what is his draft range?

He was eligible last year I think.

If we signed him it’d be as a Cat B rookie.

Key forwards really need 4 years of development to really hit their stride, even those with very high talent levels. Mainly due to strength, conditioning and then experience. Anyone we draft barring a miracle in 2023 won't be ready to impact games until 2027 or be dominant untill 2029 and thats if you pick the right player.
Have your recruiters/scouts done any work on Futures yet?

What do the next 3 age groups project as?

As GWS attempt a hard reset on the salary cap, they are likely to lose players. I can see GWS having up to 4 first round picks - their own plus R1 picks included for Taranto, Hopper and Bruhn (there may be other aspects to the trade)

Likewise Suns may possibly have 3 first round selections with their own, the Crows for Rankin and enough points to make Lions trade their R1 pick change hands.

Add to it that Sydney already have their own and Melbourne's R1, it could be that the 4 clubs in the northern states get the best player in the draft plus 9 of the next 18 selections. Me thinks the AFL need to address the balance of power at the next EBA.

IF Norf land Clarkson, he previously was active in the trading and drafting at Hawthorn hence the trade period will be extremely interesting. Norf sit with a 1st rounder and 2 x 4th rounders (plus whatever priority package the AFL deliver).

Meanwhile the AFL need to plug the hole in the system that allowed the Tarrant trade. Surely an UFA cannot be traded. Any token trade has to be taken away by the AFL when calculating the compensation. Possible changes that could push our 2 x 2nd rounders are Heppell, Amon and McStay as UFA and Franklin and de Goey as RFA.

What they need to do is take away the compensation.

The other thing i'd be inclined to take the risk on is trading our first next year to GC for their first this year if Elijah Hewett is there.

That would be pick 7 or 8. Have to back ourselves in to outperform that next year which, IF, we get a good draw for being second last, and a decent run on injuries we should be able to match/beat.

GC might be inclined if they end up with Adelaide's first round this year for Rankine.
My guess would be GC take Busslinger at 5 and Oliver Hollands at pick 10.

That is one option and makes it very simple.

They can also make it that no compensation until after the second round.
Compensation to be evaluated by a peer panel on a rolling 2 year basis.

We definitely need to protect the integrity of the first round (as much as possible).

With Giants likely losses and their reset, they may well swop on Busslinger earlier. He and Taylor would be an ideal match up. Probably better than the Davis-Haynes pairing. And that is why we need to be open to dealing with the expansion teams

He's only in his third season, managed 22 games, including 16 last year, for whatever reason (and maybe briztoon can shed more light), he's not able to push into a team that is challenging for top 4 this year. But to me, that puts his development right about where you'd expect a pick 22 to be.
Honestly he should be in the team. But Fagan is wedded to playing Zorko, Lyons and Rich to try and get them a flag.

And he’s playing Mathieson, because he shown more as a clearance specialist than Robertson. We duh, Matho plays 100% of his time in the reserves as an inside mid. Robertson gets chucked from forward pocket, to midfield, to wing.

There’s a lot of BF Lions fans who wish Lyons would be dropped for Robertson.

The other issue is that Robertson should be approaching 50 odd games, with most over last year and this year. Because he hasn’t, he still hasn’t played inside mid at AFL yet. Because, Fagan only trusts our older players.

I'm going to save my judgement until round 1 next year! As whilst we didn't make finals in 2021 and they had a longer preseason loads of players didn't have a full preseason and then COVID hit Perth later.

If there is any fat scrutiny next season, we need to seriously change our fitness regime!!!

Im sure our fitness regime has skin fold targets and other kpi's etc.

End of the day it is on the players to do the work. And from the outside looking in they arent doing the work other teams are. That looks like the problem.

It's almost as if all coaches are the same, backing the senior players with CrEdItS iN tHe BaNk

Could well be that Sydney have an informed view on Buds longevity and have low balled his offer to start paying for Logan (and some other rising stars).

Highly likely and a sound business decision if that’s so.

Buddy “Greedy” Franklin, has had first dibs with his snout in the trough for so long now, that it would appear that he has forgotten what the concept of “ sharing” is.

Great footballer absolutely no doubt about that, one of the best we have seen in the modern era, but a selfish mercenary none the less.

Freo should give up on Jackson and grab Buddy and Darling.

I don't want to lose Darling, or Freo to win anything, but I reckon fixing their forward line is more important than adding to their ruck stocks.

Praise the football gods it won't be happening.

When we're ready to Challenge Logan Mcdonald on a huge deal is the bet for me. I don't care if it's before restricted free agency and we pay 2 first rounders. Kid will be a gun.
That would be awesome, wonder if we will be a bit gun shy after the Kelly saga. Hope not.
